Hello passionate dieters!

I've been on the Atkin's diet for a month now. I'm still in the Induction period because I've been losing weight slowly but steadily and I like it that way. I've lost a total of almost 8 pounds in three weeks, the last week I didn't lose much.

My usual breakfast is: 2 (fried/boiled/poached) eggs, 1 cup of unsweetened soy milk with instant espresso and two teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder and sometimes Splenda.

Lunch: Smoked Salmon salad with creme fraiche or any other salad.

Dinner: Well, either the leftover salad with some solid proteins like fish, chicken or eggs. It's usually salad with meat.

My mom's an amazing sub-continental cook so I enjoy Tandooris and spicy curries on a daily basis! (They're all pretty low in carb btw)

I don't snack very much as I'm usually full between the meals, but whenever I crave for solids, I immediately grab my bottle of water, which indeed is always in reach and full of fresh water. Keeping a bottle, even at home, helps me a great deal to track my water intake...and for some weird reason, I like water of the bottle better than from a cup...hmm.

I do sometimes buy one Atkin's bars from the supermarket.
Tip: If you tend to overdo the Atkin's bars simply because they're quite damn yummy, then DON'T buy a whole pack, just buy one when you crave for it..pricey, I know but works!

I also do my exercise by going to the gym at least twice a week, which keeps me fit and awesome =D I enjoy Zumba, BodyShape, Pilates and sometimes Yoga; all are great ways to get your body moving. Highly highly recommended while you're dieting!

I will update or question whenever needed, but for that I need your comments and views!

Hi Kensy, welcome and good luck, I'll be following your diary with interest.

Thank you so much for the replies!

Hey Jim, you really think it's lean in fat? I do take creme fraiche and cheese on a regular basis and I use olive oil for cooking. Maybe it's not that much but I can't do more fat, I don't think I'll be able to take it :p

Of how much fat should my diet be composed of?

Today, again I had two fried eggs and a nice coffee. For lunch, mum's making fried salmon steak with veggies...too tired to make lunch:p just got back from college.

I'm also gonna do Pilates tonight...although the streets have been whitewashed with snow and it's quite slippery but I'm still taking out my bicycle B) Cool, no?

Sorry, I meant 86alpzzyj not Jim. Although, hi! :D

Oh and I have a question..it's about my breakfast. I counted my carbs and I think it's about 5 net carbs..can someone confirm it for me?

2 fried eggs: 1.2 carbs
composition of coffee drink: 2 teaspoons cocoa powder: 2.1 carbs, 1 splenda: 1 carb, 250 ml soymilk: 1 carb, 1 tablespoon cream: ...?? dont know how much carb...little I think.

Hi Kensy and welcome. If you want an easy way to count your carbs then try myfitnesspal - it's on web and you can get app for your phone etc. also lets you see friends diaries so people can keep and eye out for you.

Ref fat - you should be aiming for approx 60% of you calories from fat (approx 5% carbs and 35 protein) - again mfp shows this

Good luck

Morning kensy, I never counted eggs as carbs myself

The ratio's of fat:protein:carbs is 65:30:5 if that makes sense.

I found the easiest way to do it was to buy cheaper fattier meat. That worked for me.

Thanks so much for the support!!! Kat1e, I will try out the website. What about printing out a carb table list with the net carbs..? might get a little complicated but lets see.

Jim, just yesterday I had cheaper fattier meat and honestly...I did not like it the least bit.. I'm a little picky when it comes to meat.. I usually like chicken and fish ..basically all seafood YUM.

I went to Pilates yesterday and it was FUNN...I would really really encourage everyone to do some kind of fitness. Pilates doesn't obviously influence your weight directly, but it makes you feel lean and flexible. So a big YES YES :)

I had eggs and coffee for breakfast..wow what a change.

I just don't know what to have for lunch...don't have much vegetables..just broccoli and cabbage. I love cabbage but I don't what to do with it.

any ideas??

wow 60% ....that a LOTTTT how am I ever gonna measure up to that amount :(

The fats that I consume is from olive oil, salmon or other fish and cream (creme fraiche) .. sometimes butter...I thought that was enough.

So! I didn't know what to have for lunch...until just now!

I hurried to the supermarket and got myself tuna carpaccio! I prepared myself tuna carpaccio salad with salad leaves, roman tomatoes, bell peppers, olive oil and sprinkled with parmezaan cheese! VERY VERY yummy...and low in carbs of course !

Kind of looked like this:

If you like fish and salad, highly recommended!

The lunch looks great :)

And yes, like Dizzy says, I love cabbage sauteed in butter with mushrooms and bacon pieces yum :) Also love cabbage and leek together.

Morning Kensy, that looks more like nice pink roast beef to me LOL.

OK, if you can't do fatty meat then I'd suggest plenty of butter and mayo instead Kensy. :)

and I've no idea why protein has turned into as smiley on my post?

^ Hahaha Jim, don't know...yes I'm gonna try more mayo and butter. Can someone suggest me the best mayo during induction...most mayos (according to the book) have soy oil which is supposedly not good.. i need mayo made with olive oil or something other than soy..

i made mayo myself one day..turned out okay-ish...still prefer supermarket-mayo!

And hey dizzydelly and ladyfelsham! Thanks for the tip..I'm definitely gonna try the butter cabbage!

I had smoked salmon (again!) for lunch..again YUM. I like the cheap sort of smoked salmon more than the branded expensive smoked salmon...weird right? the cheaper one is saltier..is that bad?

I take moderate salt, but not sure whether that's alright during induction.

Morning Kensy, that looks yum.

The salt thing is more about water retention I thinklove.

we always used Helmans real mayo, not the light, but I've heard Tesco own brand is really good.

Aah ok thanks, I will look for a good brand here..

Gonna make lunch soon. Let's see what's in the fridge. hmm.
