If you do a google on teach yourself knitting there are web sites that teach you -- as for where to buy the needles and wool you can get them at hobbycraft, knitting/sewing shops or market stalls --- can usually get really cheap wool at home & bargain but don't think they do needles too.

Will definitely keep your fingers busy :)

I recommend joining something like ravelry.com which will give you access to lots of free patterns and a very helpful forum. All patterns are tried and tested (usually).

then get yourself to you tube and look for how to knit videos, there are loads on there, but make sure you are learning continental style (how most people in uk knit) as opposed to american style. Learn How to Knit | KnittingHelp.com

Also have a look at Do something, Learn something, Share something, Change something - Meetup.com and see if there is any knitting meet ups (knit'n'stitch, or sometimes called stitch 'n' b**ch) in your area, sometimes having a person teach you is easier than a video.

Good luck!

as for things like needles and wool, look in fabric shops, ebay, anywhere, online knitting shops. Local bric brac shops sometimes have wool/yarn stashed in the corners.

Argos do knitting needles (albeit a full set at £20), John Lewis.
