Licking the Lid of Life....my esoteric diary

Oh my goodness. Talking about bread. This is total food porn and is gluten free, paleo "bread". If anyone wants the recipe PM me with an email address as I can export it directly from my new "green kitchen" app via email. Much easier :) I'm just exploring it now but there is a carrot cake granola breakfast thing that I have literally just salivated over. I now have to clean my phone screen!!

I've sent it under two emails. Exporting it just sends a shopping list so I took screen shots of the method too :) let me know if you make it. I plan to but need to go shopping first!!

It sounds immense. But then so does this....again I don't have everything right now but I want to go to H&B myself so may well stock up!!

They look nice!! I've found out that you can use psyllium husks or chia seeds as an egg substitute as they make a gel when mixed with water. Think that might be an avenue for me to explore. I just made vegan cookies with little one. Coconut oil, soya milk and self raising flour. I also added a couple of teaspoons of Splenda. They came out like little mini scones - with a slight coconut hint. Pretty nice when scraped with a little jam. Obviously the flour isn't gluten free but I just used what was in the cupboard as she was demanding baking and I had to think on my feet! They would make very nice cheese scones. :)

image.jpgLook what I got cheap at 'burys today :) the Hugh Fearnley-w should have been £30 the pair and were £10 and the Aine Carlin (featured in Vegetarian living this month coincidentally) was half price at £7.50 :) i dithered about which one to get and ended up with both because I couldn't choose. I've wanted the river cottage ones for months!!

Wow! I'm totally stuffed from lunch and dinner and am still drooling over those muffins! I'm thinking I might make them for my friend's Macmillan morning as a healthy option :D

Trust me, I have lumpy bumpy bits - they are just well controlled with a bodyshaper lol, but thank you :) My family are very proud of me, but also I think relieved that I'm no longer putting my health at such a risk ... there was an awkward moment yesterday though when my daughter and I were out and about and realised that we were wearing the same outfit lol

Ooooh - and my new coat arrived yesterday! Poppy red wool and cashmere mix with black (fake) persian lamb collar and cuffs, nearly floor length military style. It's a size 12, stands out a mile and I got it for a song on ebay - £23!! I've spent years without a winter coat as I could never afford a new one in my size, so I've made do with layers of woollen capes and ponchos, so this coat is a real milestone and I love it :D

I've always associated the word 'groat' with currency - never realised it had two meanings. That's one of the things I love about your diary Sam - I LEARN stuff :D

Brill bargains Sam hun x

Woohoo!! Way to go Cavegirl :D

I've just realised that it's my SW anniversary today - exactly one year since I walked into my first session - reluctantly, rudely and not at all sure I wanted to give up my food crutch ... Sam, and you girls have been such an inspiration to me and really helped to keep me on track and stick to plan without getting bored. It's just so lovely to be able to unload and share with people who really GET it, instead of just secretly thinking 'just eat less pies and move more'. I (mawkish moment warning ;) lol) LOVE you guys - Thank You!! :D

Ahh I just love it when I come back and my diary has taken on a life all of its own! :)

Cavegirl- those stats are amazing well done!! That's so fab. I have to confess to being a little all over the place lately and I've put a couple of pounds on. The best thing being that I could stand to and I know they will go again and best of all they don't bother me in the slightest!

Can't wait to see a picture of you in your coat Molly, it sounds amazing, and get you in stand out red!! No-body puts Molly in a corner!! I love all you guys too. I've always said I could never have done (and am continuing to do) what I did without you all. Minis is the best support network, especially for people like me who just didn't click with group.

I love over all the stuff I learn on here. I also never knew groats were anything other than coinage. It's amazing what you find out!! :)

Congrats Cavegirl...on that drop on pounds!! How it pleases the eye! :D

Well done Molly for achieving your 1st SW anniversary! I know those months seem to whiz past. The other day I worked out that I've saved about £245 since I reached target and not paying to attend group every week!

Sam, were you pleased with the contents of your Veggie Box?
Was wondering if you're a Brightonian? or just gravitated to the city, which was a town when I lived there...

I haven't got my coconut oil yet but I loves a good freebie! I quite like coconut water too, I had some in my vegan kind box a couple of months ago. On that note Janet I was pretty pleased with this months haul. Nothing has or will go to waste! Mostly edible too which is a bonus, with the exception of a essential oils deodorant. I'm in need of my oil as my first jar has run out!

I didn't think you had to use yeast like in normal bread. You just use a starter of flour and water then 'feed' it over 5/6 days with some more water and flour.Whisking it will help incorporate some airborne yeast particles. It's too fussy a recipe for me to try and make.:)

Oh no, me neither...I had a whiz around with my friend Mr Google and think if anything I shall try this one:
Brown Soda Bread | Doves Farm
If I say it myself I'm quite an accomplished breadmaker and this looks extra simple!

Sam, I was a member for a while but found the snacky edibles too tempting...!! lol.

Oh that's the best bit haha. It's my guilty treat ;)

No, fair comment. A lot of them seem to make up for lack of dairy with added sugar. The vego bar a couple of months back was nearly 1000kcal. It was a monster but even so....

I love soda bread! Haven't had it for years, but I might experiment with some gluten free flour Hmmmm.

At group yesterday someone bought in some awesome cookies made with pulverised tinned chickpeas. A bit of a tweak, so not something I'd make often, but lovely for special occasions :D The lady who devised the recipe goes to another of my consultants groups and she is pretty amazing in the kitchen! Cookies, cookies galore! They were kind of 'cakey' - more like melting moments than true biscuits, but I'm not sure if that's down to when they were made or how they were stored, so I'm going to have to give them a go - perhaps using lemon and orange zest for a St Clements version.
