LL on BBC One this evening

porgeous- wot BBC area are you in so we can all watch it on BBC iPlayer?

I had it - what a load of scare mongering - 2 people with side effects, one was self inflicted, by his own admission drank too much water, the other lost some hair. Totally biased, not one comment on the thousands of people of do this programme without any side effect what so ever.

I had better stop taking Nurofen in case I get an upset stomach, or stop washing my hair in case I get an allergic reaction to the shampoo.

You didn't miss much gang, usual stuff, some counsellors aren't that good and don't give good advice, some experts support VLCDs, some don't etc etc. I'm in the East and I think you can see it online.

Gxx

I really feel like writing to the BBC and complain about biassed reporting - they skimmed over the one person who spoke about the positive side of it. At the end of the day, I feel it is your responsibility to find out as much as you can about VLCDs if you are going to go on one. Ask the LLC questions, but still double check what they said. I am pretty confident that all of us on here, asked questions, then did further research on the 'net before giving over any money. In every profession or industry out there, there are people who do a fantastic job (like Mikey's and my LLC) and others that are pretty crap. Same with going to see a specialist at the hospital (as BL can testify too).

It was not responsible reporting at all.

Nope, didn't get it in the North West - we got 3 other stories but not that one.

I saw it.
No real substance to the story if you know anything at all about the subject.
However most people don't know much about VLCD's, so will now assume that they are as they were portrayed in the program - dangerous and not worth bothering with.
It is a real shame that because someone at the BBC was lacking a real story many people who could be helped by doing a VLCD may now not consider it.

It was very one sided and unbalanced! I understood what they were saying about poor LLC etc but I think the info in this programme was very undermining and I hope not too many of my friends or family saw it! It took a while for me to convince them it was safe, this is not gonna help! I agree with Corey too... I researched all the side effects ie hair loss and menstrual changes so there were no surprises for me, surely it's our responsibility to do that?

oh thanks no no :)
Ill watch it now xxxxxxx

Thanks NN2YY for posting that! Just had a watch....can't say there is anything there to put me off or anything there that has scared me, etc.

They spoke to 1 person only, who had a bad experience. And one who moanded about her menstrual cycle. Two people out of thousands of people.

No big deal. As long as we are aware of how we are feeling physicially and take action should we notice anything unusual, etc.

I am sure they could find fault with piling plates full of unlimited quanitities of carbs, or meat, etc., on Slimming World - they could find fault with WW, CD, W8 - whatever is out there, someone will come a long at some stage and poke holes in it.

Common sense and good judgement are ky. The booklets warn of all the side effects, or the website - if someone goes in to the diet having researched it and know they are to be monitored every 28 days, and if their counselor does not insist on it, it is up to the individual to challenge the counselors practice. If they accept it - its on them.

Seems just this weeks hoo-haa is LL, next week it will be something different.

cant help but notice that the ones moaning about it was still very over weight.
maybe they are a bit bitter?
just a thought :) x

Thanks, NNYY! I missed it yesterday and was going to look into iPlayer today - you made it really easy for me. :D

Now... I personally do worry that some LLCs don't tell the whole story so that they can get clients on board. However, my biggest concern from the programme is that they interviewed the same clinician that almost week in week out tells us all those nice things about VLCDs in our weekly DVDs... This shows what good marketing - and possibly post-editing - they do with the DVDs...

In all honesty, tho, I think it's appalling that LLCs are not monitored and spot-checked regularly. LL shouldn't allow poor counselling to happen, given the money we spend on it. I suppose after the initial £14000 is laid out by the would-be LLCs, it's easy for a commercial organisation to just wash their hands off of what happens afterwards.

So, although this programme hasn't put me off because like many others I did my research and I watched Dr Nick tell me about the side effects during my initial consultation, I'm not impressed with the way the LLC system is managed (or not managed, as the case may be) by the HQ. At £6600 for every 100 days, a good LLC should be guaranteed!

we are not paying 66 quid a day!!!!

We pay about 924 for the 14 weeks.

Still a lot of dosh tho.

ooops... :D
