Madeleine McCann

Better to Drink your Syns
When poor little Madeleine went missing, I was a top poster on a Florida holiday forum site, and deeply affected by her disappearance, along with other forum members, kept posting pictures and requests for information, to try to help to find her.

Since, the viewing of the new timline of events on Crimewatch earlier this week, I thought that maybe it would be useful for the investigating authorities to broaden their audience, to people who may not have seen the programme, and decided to make this post.

I am in agreement, with many, in that the children should not have been left alone, and truly hope, that Madeleine is one day found safely, but, to do so, the investigating authorities need all the help they can get!

I agree, it's not right that she was left all alone & I believe if her parents had been anything less than doctors they would have faced the authorities for their actions. That said, she does need to be found & with the new timeline I'm sure more people will be able to help.

I agree. I do not trust the parents, not one iota, and if it wasn't for them then Madaleine would never have gone missing. If she actually has "gone missing", reading up on some of the theories that are out there.

Everyone has a different opinion though on what's happened, and that is not what matters. What matters is that this beautiful, innocent child is found safe and well.

Have been sharing lots of Madaleine posts via FB this last week. It's a subject that has really gotten under my skin. I so want them to find the person(s) responsible and serve some justice.

As a parent I can assure you that although they made an error of judgement they don't deserve either to have their daughter abducted or the backlash against them that they have experienced. No one in this situation would face the authorities I can assure you of that. Although they neglected their duty they didn't neglect HER. The law protects children whose parents neglect to feed them or expose them to partners who beat them to death (Tracey Connolly anyone?) but can't protect those whose parents turn their backs and they run into to road or those that get hurt whilst their parents backs are turned. No one suggests that April Jones' parents are at fault because they allowed their 5 year old to play Ina park unsupervised??!

Without knowing what happened to that little girl I think its damaging and wrong to cast spurious allegations against her parents. Yes we have heard it all before and maybe its different because I have a daughter who is exactly the same age as she was, but if it was me I would NEVER give up until I knew one way or another. Our authorities are spending millions on reactivating this case and so there must be a reason.

I hope they find something but if I'm honest I don't believe they will. Its heart wrenching, not because they are rich and deserve it less than anyone else, but because they are clearly broken people. Pauline Bennett never gave up and died not knowing where Ian Brady buried her son. I hope they don't experience the same.

Everyone has the right to their opinion though, whether or not anyone else agrees with it is another matter. I totally disagree with your opinion, but that doesn't mean I respect it. Each to their own.

Like I said in my original post - the only thing that does matter is that they find out what has happened to this little girl.

I am not sure wether she will ever be found. But you have to draw a little hope from the stories of Jaycee Lee Dugard and also the 3 girls who were kidnapped and kept for over 10 years by Ariel Castro.

They should never have left Madeleine on her own in that bedroom, regardless of how close they may have been. That is something you would never do even at home never mind in a foreign country. It was completely selfish of them, if they didnt want the children up late then dont go out! However they will probably have to live with the guilt of that choice for the rest of their lives and everyone knows that in hindsight decisions seem so much worse than they were at that second in time. I do believe though that they know alot more than they are letting on. Kate just seems like she is hiding something and I dont know what and Gerry just....I dont know....I just think something is not quite right. But as Stevie said everyone is entitled to there opinion and we will probably never know what happened to little Madeleine xxx

I never said I didn't respect your opinion. I simply said that to assume they would face the authorities if they were not doctors is factually inaccurate legally speaking and that its easy to cast aspersions on them as they are the closest people to the case. However if there was any involvement in her disappearance I believe it would have been investigated the most throughly of all suspects and clearly went no-where except a sensation seeking book by the inspector in charge at the time. Which he is now being sued for. They made a mistake. We all make mistakes but theirs happens to have been monumental and they are being punished every day for it.

Direct parallels can be drawn to April Jones and all her parents got was sympathy for their heartbreak. And rightly so.

And I didn't say that you didn't respect my opinion. I was simply stating that we're all entitled to our own, before you go assuring people all kinds of things. Nobody is ever going to agree on what has happened or what still is happening to this child.

Sorry, but I think the April Jones story is completely and utterly different to Madaleines story. April was out playing with friends (as children should be) near her own home. Madaleine and her baby twins were (supposedly) locked in an appartment on their own in a foreign country. I don't think that parallels at all. I have all heatfelt sympathy for the parents of April Jones. Sadly I cannot feel the same towards Kate and Gerry McCann. I do believe the McCann's neglected their children and wonder if Joe Bloggs off the street had left their children alone night after night in a foreign country they may have been dealt with differently. If they wished to go on holiday as a couple they could have left their children at home with family, where they would have known they were being looked after.Or - here's a bonkers idea!! - take them out with you. How many times have you been on holiday and seen children asleep in their pushchairs whilst out for an evening meal? What's the big problem with that? Snobs. I just cannot comprehend what has gone through their heads, and I think they are hiding a lot more than they are letting on.

As I said, totally my opinion. You don't have to like it or agree with it, but I'm just putting it out there.

Apologies Ginlin, I know this wasn't the intention of your original post. I do hope we get some closure on what has happened to Madaleine sometime soon.

I only assured you on the basis of my legal knowledge and a factual inaccuracy. I teach law and am a qualified family solicitor. People make assumptions based on class and legal rights and responsibilities.

I don't want to argue. :-( I just tried to correct an erroneous assumption.

Ill go..... :break_diet:

I hope you are right, and that some information about what really happened to Madeleine is uncovered as part of this new investigation.
