Mark's Diary!

I have edited this first post to reflect recent changes. It seems I had lost motivation when I started this diary some 6 years ago. It was then revived 4 years ago and I have now decided it to revive it again. 'Third time lucky' maybe?

Unfortunately for half my life I have been struggling with weight issues.

I have seriously started again on February 2016. On 3rd February 2016 I weighed in at 22 st 6 lbs.

On 6 April 2016 I weighed in at 21 st ½ lb.

Guys I am being honest. I think this time I can do it. I WILL do it. I actually feel different. If you were to ask me on my 16th, 20th, 25th birthday whether or not I felt different (about anything). I would say "no". Now, since February I actually feel different.

What has changed?

1. I fell in love with someone for the first time in my life. Unbeknownst to me she is already "taken" but this profoundly shocked me. I did not think I was capable of such feelings towards another person.

2. I believe (1) has motivated me to become more "attractive".

3. I have a personal trainer. Once per week. Good for confidence and keeping on track.

4. I wish to become more confident so consequently could get promoted and earn more money.

Short-term goal

Short-term goal is to reach 20 st. A nice rounded figure which I haven't seen as far as I can remember. A good step in the right direction.

Mid-term goal

Intermediate goal is to get down to 17 st. I remember this figure when I was in High School. It would be a real achievement.

Long-term goal
I would ideally like to be 14/15 st. That would be brilliant. Hopefully I am not too ambitious.

Wish me luck?

Good luck Mark with your weight loss journey and well done on your 2lb off:happy096:

All the best with the healthy eating and congratulations on your progress so far. How many calories are you aiming for per day?

-3.75lbs

This week has been quite hard.

Went out two times this week, once at Red Hot World Buffet and the other at Nandos and later that day, McDonalds.

Red Hot I had to estimate but I had the following:

x8 Pizza slices vegestable
x2 Chips
x2 Vegestable Filling x2 Half Corn on Cob x2 Small Buttered Potato x2 Bowl Ice Cream
3200kcal, I am not sure if this is accurate but 'normally' I could probably manage twice this amount so straight away I can see what I am doing wrong.

Counting calories has been hard and a learning experience. I honestly can see why and how I personally have put on weight and I actually now feel guilty (and hungry) that before I started this I consumed too much.

I can now see that I have been averaging out at 2,000kcal and I have lost weight. So hopefully I can keep it up.

good luck with your weight loss mark, im not too far from you over in milton keynes :)

Oh my goodness. Has it been that long already?

Just looking back at my post and wow what can I say? CONGRATULATIONS for all the other people who have stuck it out. It is impressive too see all the people who have lost masses of weight, Healthy2010, Emma and Ria.

I have finally remembered this website, and after a spell of depression, completing uni, gaining weight etc etc. I thought I would post back right here since I have something I wish to share with you all.

Unfortunately looking back at my original weight of 22st 4. Wow, I deteriorated a lot since then because when I re-started my diet in July 2012 I weight in at 24st4. Yes that's right, I actually gained 2 st :sigh:

Before July 2012 I had an eye test and got referred to a specialist eye doctor in hospital. It turns out as suspected by the eye examiner I had "SNOWFLAKE CATARACTS" which either meant one of two things. It had either developed it through diabetes or it was genetic. Meanwhile I got referred to weightwatchers by my GP so from July 2012 I had been going to ww for 8 weeks.

As it turned out, luckily it was genetic since my father displayed the same 'symptons' when he took his eye test at the same establishment (and got referred also). After the 8-week duration I did not renew my ww subscriptions (since then I had to pay amongst other reasons) however kept it up, however not as strict before - I do not measure the points or calories, I just have small portions and it seems to be working.

Right of now, as in Tuesday, 4th February my last weigh in I now weigh 20st12.5!

Ok so I've updated my statistics a start. I hope you guys don't mind. I pre-dated it, I put it to 18/06/2012 since by my records that's my first weigh in at ww.

It is a shame looking at those statistics since the total weight loss 3st5.5lbs. If I had stuck out when I *originally* inteded to lose weight, 18/07/2010 and lost 3st 5.5lb I would now be weighing about 18st 12.5lb if not even less since I lost nearly 2 years!

Hi Mark, at least you are trying again, I really admire that you can pick yourself up and start over. You CAN do it, you just have to be focussed. Only a few weeks ago I weighed well over 16st, and now amazingly in just a few weeks I am 14.12. You can make a huge difference in a short space of time, you just have to get your head in gear. Get stuck in Mark and get losing weight, by Christmas you will be amazed at how well you look and feel.

Hey Mark, just came across your thread.
Sucks that you are feeling so down about it, but I love slimming world and if you want to be buddies on here I am happy to try and motivate you and clue you up on some SW low syn secrets etc.
I have just hit my 5st award- was 20 st in Jan and this year has really changed my life. The first few weeks were a struggle (first few shopping trips were a NIGHTMARE trying to work out syn for things!) but once you push through it really becomes second nature and the food is really enjoyable!
Fill your fridge with yummy meats and veg, cheese, mullers, etc and focus on the things you like to start with- I had loads of cheesey pasta (with spinach or asparagus on the side), extra lean spag bol and steaks in my first weeks and it was all so yum! Or have fry ups with various low syn sausages (Sainsbury's Be Good To Yourself cumberland ones are 1/2 a syn each and not bad!) bacon (fat removed before cooking), spaghetti hoops (free) and eggs (free)- yum!

It REALLY helped me to have a diary on here with supporters and to write down what I was eating so others could make suggestions (lower syn alternatives to things, better ways to enjoy my HEx's, point out things I was messing up, etc) and so that I could keep track of what weeks I did best on, where I was going wrong if it was a bad week for losses, etc.

I really disliked the classes so have done in entirely through minimins' help and I really love the community here :)

Good luck with your first week/WI if you havent had it already!

My advice is to eat ALL of your syns as it makes no difference if you reduce them at the start, and definitely eat your Hex's! I skipped on mine the first fortnight and had slow losses, they're there as calcium/fibre helps weight loss! What was I thinking? Cheese and cereal bars, nom!

X Sophie

Hey Mark,

Just came across your diary and wanted to follow your progress. I find writing a list of reasons why I want to lose weight helps. Whenever I want to eat bad or have had enough I have something to go to to keep me focused.

OK. I have remembered I kept a diary a long time ago on the internet. I would like to revive it.

Thanks!

I've lost another 2 lbs.

All I am doing is exercising portion control (excuse the pun) and have been starting to brisk walk at least 3 times a week.

For example I walked 6.4 miles today, left the bus early to walk and walked in my lunch hour. Astonishing for someone who previously did not walk more than 1 mile and hated it.

Good luck Mark x lots of us here to encourage and support you should you need it :D
