Meals out

I'm just starting week 3 in LT and have so far lost 10lb. In the next few weeks I've been invited out for a family meal at a nice restaurant and I don't really know what to do. Has anyone got any tips or ideas as to how to deal with this? I think I'll feel a bit uncomfortable sat in a restaurant not eating anything, but on the other hand I don't want to undo the hard work I've already done. :-/

We all have to make our own calls.

I cancelled my meals (including my birthday) because I decided I could do them again another time if I was really that bothered. I was of the opinion that anyone who knew me would know I wouldn't turn down anything unless I felt I had a good reason and losing weight and staying 100% was that reason. My health is far more important than other peoples feelings when it comes to something so trivial.

I have also been out for a booze up where I only drank water all evening and I really had a great time. I wouldn't have believed it possible beforehand.

Other people have taken different approaches ranging from refeeding prior to the meal, having the meal but being as sensible as possible to just saying 'what the heck!' and having it as normal. It's a good question and this could be quite an interesting thread.

Whatever you do, the important thing is to be 100% the day after, should you decide to go.

Well done on your weight loss so far. :)

I've continued to go out for meals with friends and have my shake/flapjack while they eat. I found it difficult the first time, but now it's so much easier and I don't miss out on socialising. It depends whether or not you think you'd be able to avoid the temptation, I suppose. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hi Lynne, I did 21 weeks on L.T in 2010 totally 100% and in that time I went out for meals, parties, Birthday do's, Nights out with the girls, family barbi's etc you name it I did it lol. When you start L.T its a massive committment to yourself, the eating part of a night out is actually over quite quickly. I used to sit with sparkling water in a wine glass and used to take all the photos so I had something to focus on. My family didnt mind me not eating as they got used to it and noone made a big deal about it. I also like the fact that I could take my car and not bother with taxis :D So its a personal choice, but you can enjoy a normal life whilst on L.T.

Hi Lynne, I am now coming to the end of my 100% TFR journey on Lipotrim with my refeed due to start on Friday 4th May :D. I have tackled the "eating out" problems in a couple of ways. One time there was a big family meal for my aunt's birthday. I explained that I wouldn't be there for the meal but that they should text me when they are starting their desert and I'd pop by and have a coffee with them at the end of the meal. This worked out very well for everyone concerned.
I also went for a weekend catch up to Liverpool with some old school friends and while they ate at the restaurant I sat with a black coffee and a sparkling mineral water and chatted away to them while they ate. The restaurant were totally ok with me doing this and I was so busy talking I didn't miss eating the food. I made sure I had my shake before I went for the meal so I didn't feel hungary when they were eating so I wasn't tempted to eat myself. This also worked very well.
Personally for me I didn't want to have come out of ketosis and go through those first few hard days again when going back on TFR.

Good luck with finding a solution to your dilema. Let us know what you decide :)

Thanks for all your replies. I'm still undecided what to do but I've got a couple of weeks before the meal. I'm not sure if I can resist the temptation of food so I think I may just eat but be careful with my choices and get straight back on track afterwards. I know this means I'll have to go through the first few days again, but I still wouldn't be eating anywhere near as much as before I started on LT so hopefully will still be able to lose a little. My biggest challenge will be to resist dessert! Daisy, did you find it hard to stick to for 21 weeks? How much did you lose in that time?

Hi Lynne , I didnt find it easy, but everytime I felt like stopping I would promise myself I wouldnt stop when I felt upset or low but would stop after a weigh in and when I was in a calm mood but every time I lost I just thought I would do one more week lol I lost 84lbs. :) Good luck with your meal out and have a great time.

I went out for a "meal" last night, it was a friends 50th and I couldn't miss it. I took a flapjack with me and told the waitress that I was nil by mouth, lol. She didn't even question me, just said OK. I still had a really good evening and my mates are used to me being on Lipotrim now (week 9  ). It's up to you what you decide, a dilemma I know :( if you can't swerve it then maybe a carb free meal, you may stay in ketosis that way.

Ahhh, I seem to remember reading about that in the Dukan diet when I was deciding which one to go for. It says that when you're following a protein only diet you go into ketosis in the beginning. Maybe I could go for a nice steak and a few veggies and hopefully I won't knock myself out of ketosis.
