Missing food

Hi All

Having a hard couple of days. I am half-way through my 5th week of LL and the last few days I have really started to miss food for the first time on this diet. My loss has been good so far 23lbs and thats the only thing keeping me going.

I miss tea and toast, fruit and vegetables, socialising at meals. Even last night I went to friends and had water while she had wine. Did I feel deprived - certainly. Was I tempted - not yet. But I want to get back to normality and the thought of 9 more weeks without the tastes and textures of food I'm finding hard to imagine. I have another 35 lbs to lose so I know I'm only half way there and I don't want to go down the road of cheating because I know how I will come out on the other side ( fatter and heavier).

 Has anyone else had this - is it just a blip that will pass or will I have another 9 weeks of feeling the same. I am not hungry, I know that, but why is deprivation so tough?

I remember getting days like that. Sometimes it seemed the hardest diet in the world. Other times it seemed the easiest.

Hang on in there. You may well be feeling completely differently tomorrow :)

Yep, I feel like that too. I'm in week 9 at the moment and often feel desperate for real food. However, I am not going to mess this diet up and neither should you. I think about how I am going to feel once the foundation period is over and how gutted I would feel if I gave up now. When I feel the way you do I go try some smaller clothes on, that makes it all worthwhile. I also sort through my wardrobe and throw out all my "fat" clothes. There's no going back then! Hang in there, try to find something to do to stop you thinking of eating. Have a cup of tea. It will all be worth it in the end.

Yes ! I have had my week 10 weigh in and can't believe I have lasted this long ! In one recent LL DVD, Beechy wotsit said "If you don't carry on going forward, what are you going back to ?" and that really makes me think now when I miss food ! I do miss it but I aint giving in !;)

, Beechy wotsit said "If you don't carry on going forward, what are you going back to ?" ;)

Loved that quote, never a truer word said.

Tomorrow is another day and you will feel better x

Hi

I felt like that most of the way through LOL! Try to focus on your achievements, take each second as it comes and white knuckle it if you have to. It does pass but then it will come back again just as quickly.

Like Karion says in some ways this was the easiest diet ever to do and in others it is the hardest diet.

Try the recipies at the top of the VLCD forum sticky - you can cook one foodpack a day - it adds a bit of variety.

The saviour for me is the savoury drink, it always took away the food cravings (that and I never had so many hot baths in my life). Another tip is a hot water with the water flavourings in as they are quite sweet and used to fill the gap there.

Good luck.

Wise words here....:)

I second that Flopster,

The savoury drink, especially when you're cold, is a saviour. I also drink a lot of warm/hot water with the flavourings in them. It makes glugging easier for me and I find I can drink the amount I need to with no problems.:)

Lacey.....:D

Drinking the water warm with flavourings is the only way I can get the water down me, and I found that if I filled our kettle to the top (1.6 litres) and drank it as it cooled down, it soon goes down, I can normally do three kettle fills in a day, one in the morning, one in the afternoon and then another kettle fill in the evening.

I carry the water flavourings everywhere with me and that way if someone is having a coffee I can always feel sociable and have a drink I enjoy - only thing is a placcy bag filled with white powder never ceases to raise and eyebrow or two

And whilst I am thinking about it another top tip if you are a nibbler like me is to cut up a bar into tiny thin slices - I can get in excess of 20 if I try hard - and just nibble on them, it gets rid of chocolate cravings for me.

Thank you so much everyone for your words of support and tipsYou have made me feel really touched and encouraged. I do feel a bit better today. I haven't tried the savoury drinks so I'll get some and try. I also stuggle to get 4 packs in a day so that probably isn't helping either. I figured another stone by Christmas and I will only have a stone an have to go. Depp breath, chin up and take each day as it comes.

you've had some good advice already, but my counsellor had a great idea i have used and thought you may like too.

My counsellor lost 6 stone by the way so she definately knows how it feels.

Instead of saying to herself 'I can't have wine' (or chocolate or crisps or whatever it is you wanted.

She says 'I'm not having it now, but I can have it on the 6th of January (or whenever your 100 days are up on LL)

She then made a list, adding to it whenever she felt deprived, not just things to eat but places to go as well, promising her that after her finish date she could have or do any of those things.

Of course by the end of it she didn't go out and 'eat the list' in one night, but she did allow herself to have some things off the list.

I am finding it helpful too, I have a list with everything from toast to chinese food that I feel I have missed out on. Its helpful to know that on the 6th of January I can choose to have these things. Of course my reality is I am planning to stay on the diet until I hit my target which is likely to be sometime in Febuary, but it helps to know I could eat at the end of foundation if I choose to. I just don't think I will make that choice at the time.

hope you continue feeling better about it all!

That's great advice! It's not about deprivation, just making choices. Making a list is a fab idea  Writing it down utilises another part of the brain ;) Added reinforcement of easier times to come:cool:

That sounds great - i will definitely give it a go. It will feel good writing it down because it will also make it ok to want those kind of things not that I have any illegal desires - unless you count a cheese sandwich!
