My weight loss journey... go hard or go home

Today is the first day of no going back.

I joined SW online last night and today is my first day of following the online diet plan.

Between January and April of this year I lost 2 stone. In April I was hit by a van while riding my motorbike home from work. I sustained a fractured left ankle and some soft tissue injuries, as well as nerve damage. My ankle recovery has unfortunately been complicated. I am still experiencing considerable pain and extreme swelling so I am awaiting an appointment for an MRI and x-ray and I have to return to the Orthopaedic Consultant the second week of September. I have only recently begun to walk properly and exercise has been impossible.

I am hoping to get back to the gym in the next 1-2 weeks once I have my new motorbike, as I do not have access to public transport and I cannot continue to take taxis everywhere and certainly not €20 each way to the gym everyday!

I have never had huge problems with my weight until I had the accident. I was on bedrest for 2 months and the complications with my ankle have made it extremely difficult to move around. This has lead to weight gain and also, the muscle and tone I did have has virtually disappeared so I have a long journey ahead of me but I feel more motivated now than I did at the start of the year. I feel like I have to try to take my life back from the driver that hit me.

I am 5ft 7". I work in an office but my job does not consist of sitting at a desk all day long, I have to run up and down 3 flights of stairs at least 25-30 times a day so I wouldn't claim it as a sedentary job. I have always been active, at the very least my activity consists of a 1.5 hour walk with my dogs everyday, a great dane and a jack russell, which is not a leisurely stroll by any stretch of the imagination. I used to enjoy running but my physio said it will be at least 6 months before I can run again. Just before the accident my boyfriend and I were planning to buy a treadmill but now that I can't use that, I am going to join a gym. I intend to go to the gym early in the morning as I am not always guaranteed to leave work on time every evening and sometimes have to work 1-2 hours late.

I am currently on leave from my job due to my injuries. There is a possibility that I will have to undergo surgery on my ankle so until that is decided I will remain out of work indefinitely.

My starting weight is 16 stone 9lbs and my goal is to reach 12 stone 9lbs by March 2013 and then re-evaluate for the final 1-1.5 stone I may have to lose.

I have other short-term goals which I will post in time.

Hello, and welcome. Slimming work is a very easy diet plan to follow. all the meals are super easy to make and are suitable for all the family. Sorry to hear about your accident- the great thing about slimming world is you dont actually have to go to the gym, you dont have to " exercise" all you have to do is partake in any activity that raises you heart rate ( running up the stairs a few times, brisk walk, even vacuuming)

I started slimming worl 2 weeks ago 16st10lbs. I am now 15st10lbs TWO weels later, just by folloeing the Extra Easy plan. I aim to get to 11st by march 2013 so were aiming for similar targets :)

Good luck

I had a really good day today.

Breakfast: 2 weetabix with blueberries and raspberries with low fat organic milk (I usually drink soy milk but there was none left)

We were out of the house then for a few hours so I didn't have a snack.

Lunch: 6 chicken wings (plain) and 3 small fillets of plaice with carrots, parsnips and pak choi and a small portion of potatoes with water (I don't know how I managed to resist coke when himself was drinking it across the table from me!)

Snack: melon wedge, pear and a Kelkin Rice Chocolate Snack Bar (syned at 4.5)

Drank loads of water but that's nothing unusual, I drink a lot anyway with all the medication I'm on. Normally would eat a lot more than that but we were out of the house for most of the afternoon busy in town.

One of our friends has invited us for a takeaway tomorrow evening so I'm going to look at the takeaway section on the website and see what the best I can do is. I do generally eat healthy but when it comes to takeaways I tend to treat myself and have whatever I want so I'm going to try to stick to the advice on the website about takeaways. Wish me luck!

Breakfast: 2 slices of wholemeal toast with pumpkin seeds and baked beans

Snack: Grapes

Lunch: Chicken, lettuce, cucumber, scallions, red and yellow peppers and a small sprinkling of cheese

Snack: Kelkin Rice Choc Snack Bar (syned at 4.5)

Dinner: half portion of boiled rice, a third of a portion of chicken tikka masala (so yummy!)

Breakfast: 2 weetabix with banana and raspberries with soya milk

Lunch: chicken, carrots, green beans, curly kale, cauliflower, onions, garlic and 5 baby roast potatoes

We then went to the cinema and I was dead proud of myself. Normally I shovel a large popcorn into me along with a large coke even if I'm not hungry, it's like a subconscious action I just find myself eating like a robot. So today I ate just about half of a medium popcorn and a medium coke (which is 500ml) and I had 5 jellies and 5 of those chocolate mini eggs. That was a victory for me and that was my treat for the week.

I'm feeling confident about my weigh in on Wednesday and hopefully all my good choices will be reflected in the numbers.

Hi,

Looks like you're having a fab week. What is it with the cinema and the need to keep eating?? I was there too this week and had planned to have a box of mikado instead of popcorn but my boyfriend had brought haribo and crisps so of course I had to eat some of those too! I know if I was watching a film at home I wouldn't have ate that much!!

Good luck for Wednesday, that's my weigh day too :)

Thanks, I'm hoping my restraint will be as beneficial as possible.

I know, it's almost like a robotic action, it took a lot of willpower to stop myself!

Does anyone notice a change in their sense of smell when they're not eating certain foods? My boyfriend came home from town this morning and he was after buying himself some freshly baked white baps (I don't eat white bread anyway but I'm trying to limit my bread intake at the moment) and the smell of them was unreal! I don't think I've ever smelled white bread like that.

Good luck on Wednesday.

Breakfast: melon

Lunch: beans on wholemeal pitta bread (no bread in the house so had to improvise!)

Dinner: wholegrain rice (years since I ate white rice), carrots, red and yellow peppers, green beans, 2 baby potatoes chopped up, onion and chicken fried up and a can of coke as a treat after a hard day (syned at 8)

We're doing up our house at the moment, down to the insulation in the walls and floors so we were working hard on the house from about 2 o'clock until an hour ago so we were famished! I had a can of coke as a treat with my dinner.

Yep I do, its frustrating or one day he'll look like he's put on a few lb's round his belly - doesn't bother me in slightest but then a few days later without even doing anything he's even slimmer! :)

Yeah my bf never looks like he gains weight because he doesn't. He has never weighed more than 10.5 stone. Ever. No matter what he eats. *shakes fist* lol

Feeling a bit nervous about not being in total control of what I'll eat this weekend. My boyfriend and I and some of our friends are going to Electric Picnic so it might be difficult to ensure I'm eating as much fruit and veggies as I might like and as little of the bad stuff that I'm trying to cut out. I'm going to stick to my plan 100% between now and Friday and then back to normal on Monday but I'm not going to ignore it completely over the weekend, I just don't want to punish myself too much next week if I find it's been too difficult to stick to over the weekend. Fingers crossed I still lose next weigh-in.

that's fantastic, well done!!!

Don't worry too much about the weekend, just stick to plan 100% before and after. that's the good thing about mid week weigh in :D
you could always try success express for a day where instead of 1/3rd superfree with a meal, you have 2/3rds. Some people have done this at my group after a holiday and had great results. Enjoy Electric Picnic :)

What a weekend!

Eating didn't go too off course. I only ate a burrito on Friday, we did a lot of travelling and I just wasn't hungry for the rest of the day.

Then on Saturday I had a slice of pizza and 2 pieces of garlic bread (baguette style cut into pieces), 1.5 sausages (I dropped half of one) and a half a small portion of chips so about 10 chips (they were horrible).

Yesterday I had a third of a portion of buffalo nachos and then later on half a beef burrito (I love mexican food, fortunately there is no mexican restaurant near where I live) and a quarter of a crepe with nutella.

Today I had 2 rashers, 2 sausages, beans and 3 small slices of brown bread and 2 small cappucinos and for dinner I had 2 small chicken wings (literally just the wing itself), 1 onion ring and a handful of chips.

It wasn't a lot of food but it was a lot of bad food. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of options. If you didn't get to some of the "healthier" food stalls before midday then you were left with a choice of maybe 4-5 dishes to choose from, or nothing.

I did also do LOTS of dancing and walking. We started dancing at about 8pm on Friday and kept going until around 1am and then there was loads of walking. Then on Saturday we danced from around 8pm to 3am and loads of walking again (nearly 2 hours because we were at the rave in the woods lol!). Then last night we danced and did lots of walking (the acts we wanted to see were at opposite ends of the festival site) from around 6pm to 4am. Surely I'll have burned off something!

Back on the wagon tomorrow.
