Hi everyone, i have been reading your posts this past two days infact i have done more reading than housework!
i have decided to give it a go on this diet after failing all others miserably so actually i started 2 days ago after reading all your success stories. i cannot afford to join slimming world just now but have bought a book from amazon called free food by slimming world i believe, although it isnt much good!
i am getting used to asking google how many syns and are foods free though and hopefully i will lose some weight, im currently 205 lbs and would love to get to 140 pounds by 1st november is this doable doing only green days? im not a great meat lover really but do like quorn is this allowed on green days and how much do i have to measure etc?
i noticed some people putting something about healthy extra or options and a and b next to it but im not sure what that means???
any advice would truly be appreciated!
i have got so depressed since gaining weight i no longer have a social life my bmi is 31.01 and i look awful. i know i can do this i just need a little help with what i can and cannot eat :)
thanks in advance :)

i know how you feel chick i was at a stage were i'd avoid going out because all my clthes made me look fat! It wasnt until i faced up to it and decided actually no my fat makes me look fat, and decided to do something about it that i started socialising again
this is my fourth attempt at slimming world now so amd getting to be a dab hand each time ive lost weight but got comfortable before i got to target and the weight crept back on.
this time im determined to get slim and stay slim. i do find attending class motivates me although sometimes i do find it a bit hard finding the money but for me its worth it as i have all the support from class members
i would be happy to support you/ give you as much advice as i can ect along your journey its good to have a slimming buddy/buddies to help along the way

Awww thanks hun, its made my night, i was so scared to join in and tell people my weight, i was always so thin and i guess i am so ashamed now, i even avoid the places i used to go with my old friends incase i bump into anyone i know for fear i may hear them say god shes fat as i walk away....how stupid am i!
well i am going to do this, my sister is doing it too, but she is still at the reading the posts stage and i dont believe shes joined yet but i will talk her into it, we are both roughtly the same weight and both were super skinny a few years back!

Hiya

As far as I'm aware Quorn is free on a green day. Although I find my best results are from red days, probably because I'm a carb-lover... so do try to mix it up if you can. My fave red-day meal is stuffed peppers, stuffed with a bit mince. And lots of veg, chopped tomatoes. I'm not a great meat lover either but I love this dish, and also made my own burgers today.

Healthy extras are probably explained more thoroughly somewhere else on the forum but basically you get two HE (a) which would be your cheese/milk products (each have a certain weight you should not exceed) and two HE (b) would be carbs such as bread/cereal etc. Which would be 2 slices of wholemeal bread, or 28g bran flakes or something. On an extra easy day (I tried my first EE day today, it was great) you only had 1 HE (a) and 1 HE (b) and can mix free foods from both red and green days :)

I think your target is doable, its healthy to lose 1-2lb a week so I think with alot of patience and hard work you could reach your target!!

Good luck and I hope this diet works well for you! I enjoy it because I can eat 'normal' food and still eat with my housemates and never feel hungry!

Best of luck
Danni

that sounds fine you can just syn your sugar, you may need to up you intake though as it doesnt seem theres much food there.
if you eat too little you wont lose weight as your body goes into starvation mode

have a look through the recipe section on this site too lasttime as there is hundreds of gorgeous ones, all my family eat the same now and they dont realise it. none of them need to lose weight except me but it doesnt do them any harm it keeps them more balanced as they do occasionally grab a burger or crisps when out

thanks for thatbugsbunny2000, i appreciate all the information there! i bought quorn today so will make bolognaise tomorrow and try and eat more karen...i think i was scared to eat today incase i was eating the wrong foods, im also worried now as i had 50/50 bread not wholemeal eeeek
tomorrows menu is this:
brekkie: 2 eggs 1 tin beans 2 x quorn sausages
lunch low fat bachelors super noodles plus shape zero yoghurt and 1 apple
dinner spag bol made with quorn veg and passata and penne pasta
supper jacket potato with bolognaise sauce i made earlier in day....
will that be ok for a full day? can i then have two cups of tea with milk? if i use sweetner?
what about a little cheese as a healthy extra on my bolognaise and can it be normal chedder or does it have to be low fat?
you guys are such good coaches!

Hi lasttime,

Losing 65lbs in 10 months is definitely do-able. I would suggest that you go to the 'stickies' at the top of the SW forum here. There are some good explanations about the plans. I would also do lots of reading around here for tips on what to try/pitfalls. Could you go to a meeting once just to get the books ?? They might really help.

Quorn is free on green. Don't need to measure it or your rice/pasta/potatoes. Not sure about the bread though - it might or might not be a HexB. If not, it would need to be synned.

Anyway, good luck. Hope it all goes well.

wow if i went to one meeting would i get all the books then?
i guess i could manage that, my trouble is not only cost, i saw its something like £70 for so many weeks which is ok but its that most meetings are at night and i have two small boys (5 and 7) and never leave them with anybody as the younger one is a handful and also uses wheelchair to get about he is hypermobile and dont fancy going out late at night with him on buses with wheelchair, i might look for an afternoon meeting near by i really should i know it would help me hugely. thanks for your advice hun x

Welcome to the forum! You'll find masses of info and support here.

Having looked at your food diary for today, the only comments I would make are that, firstly, your bread can be a healthy extra, BUT, they're quite specific about it. 2 slices of wholemeal bread are a healthy extra, but it's two slices from a 400g loaf (that's one of those small loaves!)
Second, always think of your plate in thirds. You should aim for 1/3 of your plate always being made up of superfree foods. Most fruit and veg is superfree, but some are just free (think sweetcorn, peas and those with high starch content). Then the second two thirds should be your protein and carbs. The aim is to start filling up on the superfree stuff. In your case, I would have probably grilled some mushrooms and tomatoes and had them with half the beans on toast for breakfast. With your rice, I would have also added loads of veg (roasted/fried (with frylight!)/baked) and maybe some protein - quorn or some chicken or turkey or even some pulses.

It's just going to take time to get in to it! Take a look at some food diaries, and you should get a good idea.

Hope that helps, and welcome! Xx

thanks for that...and pheeew glad there is an easier way...i shall read the navigation and use my brains lol i was starting to think i might not have the will power just to get through the navigation lol
thanks and good luck x

Yes, if you go to a meeting you would get the basic books (and could buy recipe books/directories too if you wanted). You don't have to go back if you can't go but it is soooo useful to have the books. You would also get website access for the week that you go which would be helpful even if it's just for a short time. If you don't keep going, I would suggest that you get a directory as well because it's useful for looking up syns if you don't have internet access.

However if you can find an afternoon class close by I think that would probably really help even if just to get you going. You only have to pay for the weeks that you go (as long as you don't miss more than 6). And you can stop going when you want to.

Good luck,

Gail x

Not a pig at all. Sometimes you need that. You can have more meals if you need but try to keep them superfree or mostly super free (which is easy - eg put loads of veggies in quorn bolognaise). You are unlimited on superfree and free foods but they encourage you to eat as much as you need rather than what you want (often a little different - particularly in my case). You will be surprised what you can eat and still lose weight - it's great. I just love it :D
