Well... This may be quite a controversial post but I have to put it out there! Since doing a total food replacement diet I have noticed how, as a Nation, we are bombarded with food. And not just any food, the wrong foods. It has got on my wick over the last few days and I wanted to see what others thought.
Here is what I mean... Every other TV advert is of food. Whether this be take aways such as McDonalds/Dominos or new products like a brand of oven chips, or even offers of JUNK food in supermarkets, they are constant! Even when food is not on the brain it gets put there! I was happily drinking my black coffee with no thoughts of food what so ever. Watching TV and the millions of food ad's I started feeling hungry! Or thinking I was hungry. Either way it would usually lead to walking to the fridge and having something to eat. I cannot quite beleive how many of these are on TV. Now, why aren't those adverts put to good use to promote healthy choices? Why can't the offers be on meats, fruit and veg? Do we really need 3 for 2 on pringles and 2 massive chocolate bars for £2? No we don't. But the offers out there are contributing to us making the wrong choices. No wonder the rates of obesity are so bloody high!
Me and the boyfriend went to Dagenham market and Southend over the weekend. Again, totally bombarded with food. Every other stall was a burger van, ice cream van, cake stall, donut place... I could go on! It was utterly ridiculous. Before starting this diet I would have ended up thinking, burger van + lunch time = unhealthy snack!! Just because it is there it gets used! Could this not perhaps be transformed into 'sandwich vans', fruit/smoothie stalls, hot food vans selling jacket potatoes? Obviously I am not saying that the occasional treat isn't allowed but blimey do we have to be surrounded by such ridiculously unhealthy choices? I think not.
So my point is... Part of the blame for the levels of overweight and obese people living in the UK is daily life! We need to have our guards up and constantly make the right choices if we want to succeed in maintaining weight loss. Sadly, those companies are still in business because they make so much profit pulling people in. Everyone knows McDonalds, if I wanted it I would have it - I don't need to see it on my TV everyday.
Anyway my rant is over, I look forward to seeing what other people think.
