Pregnancy and Slimming World

We're having a NIGHTMARE with names.. We seem to be the opposite to you Missy.. Trying out lotza boy names but have no girl names at all.. I'm convinced am having a boy which kinda doesn't help!!! lol
MAY find out at 20 weeks (which is 2 weeks from Monday when i'll be 22 weeks!!) but if baby doesn't want to show us then we won't book a private to find out.. So all depends on baby..
We're not having a middle name so takes away SOME of the pressure but trying to find a name that suits J's surname is hard!!!
I had always always said if I ever have a baby girls, she'd be named after my Mam's first baby who sadly died from SIDS.. So it'd be Lucy (my sister was Lucia but changed it a little) But you just can't call your baby Lucy Lee.. Sounds like a porn star/stripper name.. So that's gone out the window!!!

But to answer your question n not go on about our naming problems... No.. We won't be telling anyone until baby is here.. They'll all start giving the opinions, good and bad, and I don't want that.. We also won't be telling people of we find out the gender either.. If we find out (If baby lets us know) its purely to make things a little easier for us.. And for a little mid-term excitement :D

We had already decided on names before we even started trying and our families know what we've chosen.
We have Evangelie for a girl- that's hubby's Greek Nan's name and we think its beautiful and we decided a long time ago that's what we were going to call baby if its a girl.
Middle name- we are choosing between Rose and Grace.
As for a boy, we've decided on Oliver Lionel. Oliver we just like and Lionel was my late grandfathers name.

At the moment we've decided we don't want to find out the sex but I'm only 7 weeks, so that could all change!

Those are the names we are having and nothing will change my mind :)

My Mam was adamant I was going to be Caroline.. She'd had a daughter (sadly passed away) then a son, then a daughter, then 2 sons and was adamant she wanted another girl n wasn't stopping til she got her.. Then she had me :D But because she knew she wanted a girl, it was gona be Caroline and it was picked from before my last brother was born.. Then out I popped and she said she tool 1 look at me n said "oh she's definitely not a Caroline" and so I became Frances!!!

We have our boys name and girls name picked - girls name has been chosen for 5 years and boys since I was about 12 weeks pregnant. :-D there are so many beautiful girls names that I love but which Charles doesn't and vice versa, so the one we have is perfect.

Just need to find out next Friday whether we are having a boy or girl and then I can name him/her (but only me and Charles will know) :) x

Def got to love the name you choose, it's hard tho when 2 of you have to make the decision. I like your boys name, is it Irish? Charles is welsh and keeps coming up with names I can't pronounce!

What helps here with names....

I think would the name suit my existing children- could they wear the name? As my children are a good mix of our genes I think none are exactly the same but they are all similar.
And
Would it suit dh and I as the baby has to wear it as an adult.

Fool proof lmao or so I think! ;-p But I am aware that pg hormones may have an influence lol!

I am however giving the baby two middle names with one 'out there' name because its my last baby and I blooming well want to lol! Another reason not to let people put me off so I'm not telling anyone lol.

Yea hun its an Irish name... Ideally we'd love to have an Irish name a we're both Irish... but his surname is Lee!!! So most Irish names don't sound right..
But he still won't agree to baby having my name (initially our argument was over who's surname baby would have as I don't like double barrelling names, and I wanted it to have my name.. If its coming out of my lady bits I think its only right!!!! lol But we've settled on letting it have his name) That's only argument out of the way lol

Well I thought we were going to have a girl so made a deal with hubby that if it's a girl I could choose and if a boy he could...guess what?! Boy it is!

The deal did involve us both liking it!!

Hubby has chosen a few nice names (I dare not ask how football related they are!!) and three times he has chosen 'the one' and just as I get used to it he changes his mind. We will decide when he arrives!

There is one name I'm not as keen on and it happens to be hubby's middle name... He says he prefers his middle name to first name... I don't!! And I'm not against hubby calling out baby after himself (my dad did it with y bro so not unusual to my family) but he doesn't wanna do that.

If he starts to settle in his middle name I am going to say no - it could be his middle name... Well basically it's Craig. Which isn't a bad name. But I watch corrie at the the mo Craig is an annoying boy! (As an actor I'm sure he is super cool in real life!!) I don't want people to think we named him after him!! Lol

Not long till we find out now anyway!! :) xx

LOL... I did laugh at the corrie reference... LOL

My bf said the other day, out of nowhere, if we have a girls lets call her Angie.. I was like.. Ermm.. no!!
He said "Yea.. We have Callum (his nephew), we have George (other nephew) and then if we have Angie, we have the whole Best family.. George Best married Angie"
Still don't know just how serious he was but its a NO from me... LOL

Loving all the stories ladies, thank you! We were certain on a boys name before I was pregnant but we slowly went off it as the pregnancy went on. Now we think we know again but I'm a firm believer that the baby decides for you so we're open to change, I know a lot of people who have been dead set on a name and only to change their mind once baby arrived.

We had difficult criteria - nothing double barrelled (we have a double barrelled last name), nothing too long (last name is long enough already), something that can't be easily shortened and something unusual (I have a very common name and I hate it whereas husband loves his slightly more unusual name). So finding something we both liked was tough but we did it! It's not a common name but it is a proper name, I really dislike made up names. It's also a lot more common in the US than over here and has excellent geek credentials ;)

I so want to share cos I love to share it but I know you're right Cake. Not that I think anyone will judge on here or in real life but I would rather not say until he's here and it's all final ;)

The girls names we had in mind were Lola, Amelie and Roisin and you never know, we might get to use them one day, hope so!

Some lovely names mentioned though - I love Oisin especially Frances, there are so many gorgeous Irish names. xxx

I have a friend who's expecting and she's into alternative names. She having a boy and is calling him Rune, I thought it was lovely. Never met one before and the only thing to shorten it to really is roo and that's cute!!!!

We loved Amelia or Emelia but its just become too popular. We have something less popular now but still pretty and a back up name (which I prefer but I'm not so happy on the shortened version as a nickname as its uber popular). Nightmare lol! Our boys name is a traditional family name with more unusual middle names.

And I love Anastasia but I wouldn't because of 50 flipping shades!!!! Especially with the movie coming out too.

Am I the one doing all the hard work mulling over names? Dhjust says yes or no! It drives me mad.

Morning Everyone!

Welcome back Missy! I've also not been around much - I have had so much going on! I'm 29 + 4 today! Have fortnightly monitoring and scans due to various anti bodies in my blood! Also found out I have GD last week - hopefully I can control via diet though! Went to my first anti natal class this week and had 4d scan last night - wow what an amazing experience!
We have also had builders in and work has been manic but will finish in 6 weeks eek!

Hoping to have a relaxing weekend apart from a spot of aqua natal!

Hope you are all doing well!

K x

Loving all the convos on names :)

We always new our little girls middle name would be Lucie and we had a couple of first names throwing around and when I went into labour still didn't have a name, the only thing was that it didn't end in ie because I thought it would sound silly with Lucie as the middle name... We were driving to hospital and my OH just said shall we call her Millie Lucie and I loved it! X

I know my sister called her youngest Mikey from as soon as they knew it was a boy - I even received a bday card with his name on...then when he arrived she said 'this isn't Mikey!' I thought she was mental but she chose to call him Alex a few days after.
And my friend sent messages out introducing 'Ethan Bear' to everyone. Then a few months later informed everyone they had changed the birth certificate and he is now just 'Bear' which is what they wanted in the first place!! So don't give into peer pressure (or family pressure for that matter!!) and choose exactly what you want regardless of what others say!!! Even if naming them after a corrie character is what you want lol xx

Ok so I'll be brave since I don't know you ladies in real life so you can't squeal on me, lol.

Would love your input.

Boys name I think will be Carter Michael (Michael after fil).

Girl's name I have liked since day 1 is Georgia but can't settle on middle name.

OH's surname is long so I don't want anything too long in total as my own names have never fit on official forms.
Dd has one of my middle names as her and ds has OH'S middle name as his middle name.
So, we now have a baby due with no family name to give from us. My other middle name is one I don't really like.

Where I live you need to pick carefully so no typical Irish names or noticeably attached to a certain religion.

I have thought of Georgia Mae but not sure.

Also don't want something common (heard lots here) like Georgia Lee or Georgia Rose etc.

God it's a minefield!

Time is ticking and I need a middle name or may end up changing the whole lot!

Mama-bear x

I love Georgia Mae x I think it's so nice to name after family members who mean so much and really like the name Carter!

But I agree it's a minefield - we have not got very far!

I agree on having a name that can't be shortened.. We both have names that are shortened.. Although I correct people of they call me Fran.. Hate it.. My BF is called Jonathan but gets called Jon, Jonnie, Jono, Jonner.. Annoying...
Thanks Re the name Oisin.. I love it.. Still working on J tho.. :)

Love the name Carter Michael... Will you actually call him Carter Michael when addressing him, or just Carter??
Love the name Georgia.. I know 3 girls in the last month have called their baby that... Before them I'd not heard it much..
I think Georgia Mae is adorable...

Its an absolute nightmare trying to find a name that will suit from infant, through childhood, into adulthood.. One that we both love and agree on, that suits the baby, and will go nicely with the given surname!!!

I know my sister called her youngest Mikey from as soon as they knew it was a boy - I even received a bday card with his name on...then when he arrived she said 'this isn't Mikey!' I thought she was mental but she chose to call him Alex a few days after.

110% agree...
If n when we decide on our names or have even worked out a shortlist I'll share with you ladies on here.. But not to anyone in my "real" life

I do keep wondering if we'll change our minds once baby is here...

I'll always remember the episode of FRIENDS where Rachel has her her baby and has to choose the name and Ross says 'its Isabella' and Rachel says no she doesn't feel like a Isabella!

I think for us, we want Evangelie but we will shorten it to Eva or Evie and same for Oliver to Ollie.
We do like Henry for a boy too or even Joseph after my other late grandfather but OH doesn't want it shortened to Joe or. Joey and it's guaranteed it will be!

Oh's cousin is having a girl in November and they've chosen Madison Rain- I like the Madison bit but not sure about Rain! And they have a double barrelled surname as well.. Poor kid lol.

As for girls middle name, Rose is the favourite but we have a dog called Rosie so not 100% sure yet.
