Red Dyed Hair

Rather comfy here
Morning all,

I've dyed my hair and I've got a lovely dark red brown (more red) I know that its a commitment colour and will fade but I didn't know whether any of you lovely people have got good product/tips to help keep the colour between colour touch ups?

Im lucky with my hair in that its very strong for taking colour, I only wash it once a week as it doesn't get greasey which I know is a plus for having read that regular washes causes fading quickly.

I guess I better get a new pic up, can't show blonde when I'm red lol

Thank you xx

Deffo use a shampoo/conditioner for red hair. I'm a natural redhead but dye it a more vibrant shade and find it keeps longer using specialist redhead products! I think it's the John Freida stuff I use.

Mine fades so quickly but I do swear by Aussie colour mate shampoo, tresemme colour fade mask or failing that my back up one would be John Freda red shampoo but I find I buy Aussie as it smells lusher too! But the mask by tresemme is a good conditioner x

Thanks for your replies. I've been having a look on Google and there was a good suggestion that between colours if your hair needs a top up use a wash in/wash out. Not sure if it would work though.

I've used Gariner Nutriesse ultra colour 5.62 vibrant red

I love and I mean love that colour that's the one I use!!

when I had really red hair I used to use directions semi permanent colour to keep it vibrant. dyed mine bright purple yesterday and will be topping up with this between hairdresser appointments. it shouldnt go vivid in brown hair but give a nice red shine...

Great minds lol

I've picked up Clairol red intensive hair conditioner. It's a small tube with three treatments, so gonna try that in a week or so.

I was really pleased as the colour came out like the box. That's the first time ever since colouring my hair the past 12years or so lol

This is what I use to keep mine fresh when it starts to fade. I have dark brown hair with red chunks through, and use the 'rubine' shade. It picks out the red bits really well, and gives a nice rich tone to the rest of it. It's a darker, almost edging on purpley shade of red, rather than pillar box red (I was worried when I first bought it because all the other shades are SO bright!!) and is apparently also really good for your hair compared to normal dyes because it doesn't have chemicals in, or some such.

That, along with John Frieda red shampoo and conditioner :)

My hair is now black but when I was red (pillarbox red) I would brush some Fudge Paintbox colour through once a week and rinse it after 20 mins.

I won't have coloured hair now because of the effort (I'm so lazy!!) It's been every colour under the sun but now I'll only have black or white, haha.

Wash it in as cold water as you can stand, this helps apparently. You could buy a vegan dye of a similar colour and mix a small amount with your conditioner, use it as normal but let it stay on for longer. This might keep it vibrant for longer :)

I'm the same, dyed it black last week after getting absolutely fed up of always having faded out hair. Too lazy to always top it up and tbh it gets pricey (manic panic/directions are almost £10 ish each and I need 2 tubs, every 2 weeks so it added up!) I always go back to black lol. Will probably be bleaching it again in a few months when I get bored though :D

My hair was platinum, practically white, for 6 years but as I shave the sides I was doing my roots every saturday. My hair was like candy floss! Then I regressed to my youth and went for colour- which also meant that I was bleaching it once a month for full colour optimisation! To be honest, I'm surprised I'm not bald

It's now 1 shade away from my actual hair colour, yet loads of people tell em I don't suit it because it's too dark!! Can't win.

Platinum hair looks amazing! I could never get away with it, I look silly with light hair. Bleaching is so damaging, my hair has never been in a worse condition! So yes lucky you're not bald if you were doing it once a month!! I bet your hair was stunning tho.

I dunno what colour my hair should be tbh, been colouring it since I was about 10! Started off on the Sun-In and wash in/wash out colours, then got into harder stuff at high school! :D

(edited cos I meant to say high school!!)

I love platinum blonde! I attempted to get my hair this blonde over xmas - not easy as hair was black with lots of bright red dye underneath but after multiple bleachings & toning I got it pretty light with red, pink, purple & platinum streaks - couldn't maintain as it went bright yellow even with purple shampoos & stuff so I'm now purple! Will be topping this up with violet directions :) x

Also avoid heating your hair, where you can. Hairdryers, straighteners, curling tongs, etc. etc. can all strip the colour out of your hair, so be careful!

*hangs head in shame*

I wash mine every day, coz if I don't I look like some greasy haired tramp! It ain't a good look I'm telling you lol.

I did it yesterday and it's a real good job I never left my house.

Xx
