Your WW2 experiences are identical to mine. I booked a wonderful surprise short break about 5 years ago for Chris' birthday and we got the Ferry over to Caen spent the whole time visiting the gravesites, beaches etc. It was amazing and incredibly moving too. We stayed in Bayeaux (spelling?). So lovely. We'd love to return. Although I'm not overly keen on the thought of getting on a boat again? The crossing was like something out of the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan!!!!!!!! We must have crossed on the choppiest seas I've ever seen. Not good for someone like me :jelous:

This is incredible, because we too ALWAYS stay in Bayeux!! (Lion d'Or... you?). I agree with you ref how moving it is, and I thoroughly enjoyed it (twice) and would go again no problem.
For the ferry, although Portsmouth is of course convenient to us, the crossing is too long and often a choppy one, so we always drive to Dover and cross to Calais. Obviously not convenient for "those beaches" though, but much of a muchness for getting elsewhere in France...

umm yep well it was the butter cream filling wasnt alot and felt yuck after ...however i got on the scales after and was up 3lb grrrr went on this morning down 3lb so may not have done too much damage ... seem to be on a stall at the moment so have lots of water and chicken to hand today and will take the dog out for a long trot in a bit

Yum cake. Today we are making cookies and scones, I'm not fussed on either so it wont be a problem, plus I have salmon I have to use its going in the oven in half an hour. If it was chocolate cake though... which is why I never offer to make ours chocolate, always a victoria sponge, I cant not eat chocolate cake

Scones I can handle, but I like to see my teeth in the butter I'd whack on them... oooh and jam too... and why not some clotted cream, while I'm at it...
By the way, I've never personally been successful at making scones... dunno why!

right thought id write in here today as lots to put down
Funny day today not as in funny ha ha , one of them days you would rather not see happening i suppose
My friends 13 yr old daughter is currently in surgery for an op to prolong her life (we pray ) but the risks are high, then again without it she probably wont make xmas ...im sat waiting for news her mum is a wreck but we can only wait ...cystic fybrosis what a horrible thing for anyone to have
secondly my sis in law is back in theatre for another op the breast cancer has spread to the lymph nodes so shes having them out today and she will now have to have chemo ( she has the most beautiful black curly hair ) silly thing to think about i suppose ...so im waiting on news of both
i went to my course today finished the diagnostics and may not get to do the courses as "im deemed to intelligent " mmmm ok !!!!
may get the IT course as that comes from a different fund that the government have not cut yet give em time i say .....
so ive got to wait till after half term now to find out
on to today its freezing and im tired but thats all

right afternoon all ....just got back from a mad rush into Barnstaple to get a birthday pressie for the oh s god daughter .......now ive been a bit of a mare over it but there is reason
They have been reminding him its her birthday tomorrow for weeks apparently hint hint , firstly they dont buy my kids bd pressies (oh a dress for Maiz bd as she was candle bearer on her birthday which ended up as the god daughter christening !!! and they wanted her to wear the dress) and also whatever you buy wont be good enough ....so ive gone to wilkinsons bought two noisy toys that would be good enough for my lot and wrapped them up but the only bag i could find was a mothercare bag .ho hum , yes me bad !!!!!
Anyway friends daughter had an up and down night but ok i think
sis in laws op tomorrow morning now
kids on last day of term so im sorting out before they desend on home for a week also why its started raining
oh been asked for a day with jcb for tests and an interview , thats in Nov told him to go for the experience and you never know what they may offer him
