Team 2 !!!Slate your weight!!!

Jesus! I get crucified for making a suggestion whilst there was no-one else making any suggestions or even considering any kind of team challenge. If your ideas of being in a team are to just sit and congratulate eachother on your weekly losses then why not just do that in each individuals' diary? I thought the idea of being in teams was to try to compete against the other teams, set ourselves group challenges, and enjoy the journey of losing weight along the way. Have I got it wrong? Is this not supposed to be a team effort?

That's my 2p worth but from now on I'll just go with the flow and do the same old same old every day. Nuff said! :(

Good morning and happy Easter peeps!

well done for losing - that half lb must have jumped from you straight onto my hips then, hu? :D

sooo, what are we buying for those 6p's now?

What about 'creating a new habit'? We are all trying to change our lifestyle in respect of food and exercise. At the moment it is more for the benefit of slating the weight :)D) but truth to be told: we won't be able to maintain in our slimmer self without a change in our behavious - for good! That's where the habits can kick in:

Ppl are talking about challenges, trying to stick to something for a certain period of time - a habit seems to be more subtle and easier to stick to in the long run..

It roughly takes 21 days to create a habit, i.e. if we create a certain routine for 21 consecutive days, our body is so used to it, that it will naturally want to do the same thing on day 22. For example: if I get up at 6:30am every day for 3 weeks in a row (yes, even on weekends ;)) I will wake up naturally at 6:30am on day 22.. of course our mind can play tricks on us and makes us want to stay in bed :D but the initial wake-up habit was there!

So I'd like to change my ways a bit and create certain habits that will help me in the long run.. some of them are in my signature (and most of them still need to be tackled ) but there is so much more that we can do to help ouselves:
  • Get up 20min earlier to have enough time for breakfast
  • feel like snacking? Have a glass of water/squash first and top that up with some fruit should the drink didn't help
  • a piece of fruit should be closer at hand than chocolate
  • have a glass of water while you're cooking, you're less likely to snack on the food while preparing it
  • concentrate on your food when you're eating, sit down for it and turn off the telly, you will enjoy it more and will know when you're full earlier
  • have a hot drink after a meal when you get the gravings for sweets
  • take a time-out, just 5-10min all to yourself (for me that's after work) - getting into comfy clothes, a big glas of water/squash and just 10 minutes for myself to reflect on the day; be proud of a good day and knowing what to avoid/do different from a bad day
  • and the obvious: walk more! every 20 steps burn 1 calorie! :D
  • ...
It would be nice to share your habits, what little steps are you doing everyday that help you in your weightloss?

AAAND back to the challenge/goal: My main goal for April (which I HAVE to archieve) is to STS
My wishing-for goal is 4,5lbs as that will give my another silver 7 at the end of April!
Reason for this 'easy' goal is that I will be seeing my friends/family for 14days in Germany at the end of the month and knowing them (esp my mom) most of the socialising will be around food, meeting for dinner, brunch etc.. And I have to admit: I am missing some of the German food, like white asparagus (usually served with hollandaise :D), my mom's cooking (is there anything better??), sweets, proper icecreme from a parlour and certain restaurants/cafes in the area! So I will try and be reasonable, but won't be depriving myself too much :D

this will be a challenge :D

Crucified?? feeling hard done by just because we don't agree with your challenge? Sry but to me it didn't sound like a good one, and not at all like a competition against the other teams, but more like one against each other - is that really a team effort??
And sure you can challenge yourself to have only losses for the next month - guess not enough of a challenge there for you, hu Gerry??

I agree that it would be nice to have challenges and to pep the team up, but I didn't like your suggestion as it doesn't suit everyone in the team. And as far as I know am allowed to say so..

Thanks

Edit: just for the record: am wracking my brains to come up with an idea for a challenge that would include everyone, as other teams had ppl leaving because their challenges wouldn't fit them - and I have to say I do like this team, I like having a combination of all sorts of dieters, opinions, losses and even problems.. And yes, our maingoal is to lose/maintain in the end but we all live different lifestyles and some challenges just can't include everyone - that's where it would stop being a team in my eyes.. should anyone come up with a challenge that is fair and includes all of us, am more than happy to go along with it - but unfortunately, me and my little self have not found one yet..

you were hardly being crucified Gerry :p Teams are about supporting everyone, but like has been said - people don't want to join teams and be told "oh you only lost 1/2lb this week so you're not this weeks biggest loser" because its deflating - thats why we have the football style scoring system so regardless of what you lose, if you lose you score the same as anyone else who loses. It isnt fair to put someone like Katie who is close to goal up against people like me who have 5+ stones to lose - and even if Katie did beat me one week - it has the opposite effect that I would feel bad because I had more to lose so should really be losing more than she does.

This is a competitition between the teams, and once March scores are all posted, then we can sort out little signature trophies or something for the winning Team. End of day though, this is about supporting each other and if most people are happy to "sit around and congratulate each other" then why change it? :p

Challenge-wise, like Meike said - it is difficult to pick something to suit everyone, but it should be something that the majority can agree on.

All I merely did was make a suggestion, as no-one else was coming up with anything. It was just that... a suggestion!!!! No-one said anyone had to do it! I'll go back to reading and not posting as that would seem like the sensible thing to do at this point.

TTFN

I apologise if I have offended or annoyed anyone on this thread. I am also entitled to my opinions, even if there are those who don't appreciate my point of view. :(

Och Gerry! All I did was giving my humble opinion on your suggestion and I happen to disagree, others seem to have had a similar view and you felt crucified - which clearly didn't happen! am sorry that you felt offended.. :flowers:
(I am tempted to say "suggest something else/sensible then" but then you might suggest something where you wouldn't like my answer to either..and i dont' want to go down that route.. :p)

What I don't want is that you stop posting and holding a grudge, and can we please keep this amicable? We are still a team, working together for the same goal.. aren't we?

I apologise if I have offended or annoyed anyone on this thread. I am also entitled to my opinions, even if there are those who don't appreciate my point of view. :(
I really could say 'Likewise Gerry' but this would just kindle the fire.. :p

THANK YOU! :p

Ive been mentioned loads over the last page and i do agree that i think a weight loss challange within the group (against each other) would make me feel left out because personally i know that i would never have any chance of winning, my losses are slow and i only have about a stone/1.5 to go (not quite so close to goal as people think DAmmit:rolleyes:)

I think a challange that we could all do and would be fairly even competition between us would be better....maybe even a weekly goal or several at once would be better, or maybe lets just set ourselves our own goals and list them like in the actual April challange bit, then we can update and see how everyone is doing in one go...

Things we could do, For example:
Set yourself a goal of how many times you will excercise/go swimming/do a dvd etc this month and then mark them off as we do them..

Could also do the same for water, marking off if we reached out target of 8 glasses (or wateva) each day for a week.

Who can create the lowest point but amazingly tasty/balanced meal this week? I dont mean it has to be a 2 point meal but just a  worthy meal with an amazing point value!

Best bargain hunter of the week/month? Who finds the best bargain food item/meal etc point wise.

I will try to think of some more....
I just something we can alll join in with on an even keal would be better for our moral, still competition but its with ourselves and not our weight.
Also could have little trophies to put in our sigs for diffrent ones, which is something i would make an effort to work for!

One last thing, i think Meike is a fantastic captain, supportive, lovely, inspirational and normal! I love that she doesnt always loose weight but she always carrys on, i find that admirable and inspirational as i am in the same boat alot of the time and it is dissheartening when everyone else is loseing 4lbs a week etc

ta daaaa.

Hi and good afternoon team,
I seem to have been sleeping and missed all this hooha ! :D
agree that putting team members against team members in a who loses the most kind of way could end up being very counter productive in the end, but doesn't mean not going for a challenge of winning over the other teams :D
Us Slaters have the best Captain and quite frankly the best team members and we should pool our resources to get the most loses this month and blow the other teams outta the water
Right don't know how this happened my lovely team members but I lost 6lbs this week :D

Meh. I only popped in to catch up and post my loss......I'm hoping that the angst has now been washed away, I hate it when the grown-ups argue :(

I have an idea for a group challenge.....

Why don't we all do a post on here of:

1)One thing we said to ourselves when we were proper scoffers and not trying (a justifying statement)
2)One thing we say to ourselves to keep us going (a motivating statement)
3)One thing we would say to ourselves about our current progress (an honesty statement)
4) One thing we will say to ourselves when we get to goal (a positive statement)

This is just an idea. It's a joint challenge - but unique for each of us.

I know it's not a '5lb this week goal' but it will help us to focus on our weightloss goals and will hopefully boost motivation?

Thoughts???

P.S. Loss of 3lbs for me Mycar.

1)One thing we said to ourselves when we were proper scoffers and not trying - I still cant just about fit into my clothes and my bf still fancies me so it must be ok.

2)One thing we say to ourselves to keep us going - Dont know? I STRUGGLE WITH THIS ONE????

3)One thing we would say to ourselves about our current progress - Ive done really well and i could do that again if i could be bothered.

4) One thing we will say to ourselves when we get to goal - You have achieved something

2 pound loss cancels out the 2 pound gain i had from last week.

Thanks for the above statements! <3 you lot!:hug99:

AMEN to that!

  This is where I think I mostly fail on being a good leader a la 'leading by example' and then gaining myself:cry: thanks for that view Katie, didn't even come to my mind to think in this way! :flowers:

Will be putting the name list at the end of the post, with colour coding for goal/weight/exercise/water for everyone to c&p and fill out whatever on wants to set as own challenge

Also could have little trophies to put in our sigs for diffrent ones, which is something i would make an effort to work for!

G-Man, this is your speciality! Could you please fix us up with some trophies to keep us motivated? Maybe one for every type of challenge [weight/exercise/water]?
Am thinking in the region of a symbol for the challenge and maybe something to add each reached week, like with points/stars around it for every week one reaches the challenge? [hope ppl can understand what I mean and it's not too much to ask (workwise) @G-man]

Really good idea - am struggling with some of my own..

1) One thing we said to ourselves when we were proper scoffers and not trying - It's all not worth it - will never reach goal anyway

2) One thing we say to ourselves to keep us going - each day counts, NOW PUT THAT CHOCOLATE DOWN!!!

3) One thing we would say to ourselves about our current progress - being a 'slow-looser' can be so frustrating

4) One thing we will say to ourselves when we get to goal - and now the hardest part begins

AND: Huge congratulations for all these brilliant losses we had last week - looks like everyone wanted to loose some extra to be allowed some chocolate over easter, huh? :D
Well done and keep at whatever you're doing! someone has to loose for this challenge - and it certainly won't be me!

1 * It doesn't matter if i'm fat, i'm getting on now so its just to be expected middle aged spread.

2 * I don't want to end up in a wheelchair with Adam having to push me round as an old woman cos he'd let me go from the top of a very steep hill and make me free wheel down

3 * You can do this Kal, you can do it

4 * I've done it i've really gone and done it :D

Justifyng statement - I know I won't get any fatter, I have reached the fattest I'll ever be!
Motivating statement - WHY am I doing this, and WHY did I start on this journey?
Honesty statement - I am proud of what I have achieved so far!
Positive statement - I knew I could do it and I feel so much better now I have done it!

1) Its in the genes, all my family are overweight, and Ill start the diet Monday.
2) I can do this, I will get to goal.
3) I think I am doing very well, and am trying my hardest ever to lose this weight.
4) I have finally got there, and please god I can keep it off.

Hope everybody had a lovely Easter weekend, and well done to all the people with the great weight losses.

*comes crawling back from under the fat rock*

I've had a reallyyyyyy bad few weeks, ive not been able to attend classes due to moving to a saturday class, and having family down..and friends parties, I dont think i've lost or gained but my gym membership is gathering dust!!

I have NO idea how much I weigh, and am just waiting until saturday now, it'd be around a month since I got weighed :(
I feel really bad, and really want to get and support you all much better and be a better teammate! I'm just hoping to FINALLY get my half stone award (ok 3 months after starting ww..but whos to judge lol). If i ever go off the rails, and come back- please tell me off! I'm a yo yo dieter, and this needs to stick!

Ooo I have also been making plans for my 21st, it's feeling very real now and I really want to feel good for my party, so it's a super motivation booster. If anyone has any willpower tips or motivation etc please let me know! Would be appreciated :) :) :)

1)One thing we said to ourselves when we were proper scoffers and not trying Mine is, "I'll make it up tomorrow by being good" but I never am.
2)One thing we say to ourselves to keep us going "Think about the nice dress"- I'm hoping to loose some weight for my 21st birthday in september, I was hoping to be to my ideal weight then but im hoping for a 2-3 stone loss atleast! And i'd like to buy a nice dress, and wear it for that do and look back and not feel embaressed at how i look

3)One thing we would say to ourselves about our current progress
You're self sabotaging..I'm knowingly eating things I dont need or have to eat, and could be doing other things.

4) One thing we will say to ourselves when we get to goal
You did it!

However yeah, my issue is definately willpower to say no. Right this very moment because im craving a treat im going to go to asda and get a pack of WWFH desserts (because I ate 2 of them in one sitting on monday...oh yes!) instead of ordering a takeaway with housemates, its so much easier to get the takeaway..but no :) AND I'm going to go to the gym tomorrow, and do a half hour at the pool to get myself into a routine!

oooo and for my challenge (god knows I need one!)

I want to loose 5lbs, do atleast 4 hours of excercise a week (including pool visits, and netball practice) and drink 2 bottles of water a day (which is a lot for me!)

I'll shut up now.
