Slow Motion Run Club

Hope you slept well. It's a battle here between trying to stay cool with the window open, and the seagulls!

Comfortably hit my goal this morning with a 56:44 in the 10k. Felt like a very good run and the cooler temperatures helped a lot!

Got a rest now until Parkrun, but I'm going to do some bouldering to get a bit of strength work in.

I just had my hair done. Do I am using it as an excuse to rest tomorrow, before the rugby festival! Otherwise, I have to wash my hair and ruin her amazing blow dry! I never style my hair myself, so will make it last!

Hair wash timing is always a conundrum when it comes to exercise! Men have it so easy sometimes

Parkrun this morning was a hilly course. Felt like the entire time was either up or down with no real flat sections. The worst was a steep grassy hill at the end of each lap - by the third visit it was a bit of a mental fight to get up it.

But they had Pacers around which is great for me, and I managed to cling onto the heels of the 27 minute pacer for a 27:15 time.

I am pretty happy about that given the terrain. I'm looking forward to a flat course next week to try for a PB. My feeling is that I could have taken a minute off on a faster course, so I might attempt a sub 26 as my goal next week.

Ended the week with a half marathon for my long run. Perfect weather this morning and felt strong so extended my planned 18k with an extra 4k through the park.

I had the half marathon on my mind as me and a friend agreed to sign up for a half yesterday, so I was curious what my baseline would be, as I've never run that far before. Quite happy with 2:10 for the first attempt. Now I've got 9 months to make some improvements.

Seems like I set too easy a goal for this week. Went out for a planned easy 10k this morning. As soon as I started, I was finding it hard to stay slow, so changed tactic and went for a fast 5k. Ended with a time of 25:51. Thrilled with that, and can now spend the rest of the week chilling with easy runs. I should say though, that the route started with a 20m descent which did make the course fast

Still a brilliant start to the week! Sometimes, you just need that bit of speed. And good to know that the fast run is in the bag, especially if the weather's due to get hot again.

Thanks T_T! It already felt hot going for my second run this evening. Thankfully I am out of town for the weekend, but now the weather in Manchester is also looking hot (they can usually be relied on for some rain and cold)
