Smoked mackerel

Hi, I am new on here and wondered if someone could explain why mackerel is syn free, but smoked mackerel has syns? How many syns does smoked mackerel actually have? Thank you. I am really enjoying minimins, especially tough love! Thanks for any help.

Smoked mackerel is 2 syn per 100g on EE/Red.

Accorsing to this they use mackerel of a high fat content to make smoked mackerel, so perhaps thats the reason? With meat it has to be less than 5% fat to be free, but I dont know if they calculate fish the same way.

I've always wondered this too! I miss smoked mackerel. Although we did get some amazing fresh stuff from the tesco fish counter last week, was so good and definitely as good as smoked. It was on offer too!
