Stew recipe help?!

    Hiya

    I want to make a stew for a green day, however when I have attempted it in the past it just ends up like a veggie soup! I use

    potato
    onion
    sweet potato
    swede
    carrots
    leek
    veggie stock cube
    salt n pepper

    Anyone got an idea how to make it more stew like and interesting as the kids haven't been impressed! Cheers

    I would put a tin if tomatoes in and herbs, if you have a slow cooker put it in for about 4 hours as it doesn't need as long as meat. Maybe add some pearl barley, or tinned beans ie kidney, cannelloni.

    Snap! Tinned tomatoes, maybe some Worcester sauce, and a tin of beans. Yummy! I also add a spoonful of bovril, because frankly bovril makes everything taste nicer!!!

    Ooh thank you both :) I've got tinned toms and beans so I'll try that and will get some pearl barley too. Not had bovril in years, will marmite work as a substitute as that's in the cupboard or not?

    I'm not sure marmite would work but if you are liberal with the herbs and if you have it Worcester sauce as well you won't need it

    Really well! I added tinned sweetcorn too, just because I noticed it in the cupboard so thought I'd try it and then thought maybe it was a bad idea (immediately after I'd done it lol!) but it actually came out lovely! I'm having the left overs for tonights tea :)
