Swapping to s&s?

. The problem comes when people decide to make up their own VLCD not using products from a VLCD company. They just think I'll cut down my calorie intake to 400 and all will be fine.
.

Haha - great minds think alike - was posting something similar at the same time ;) xx

But thats the problem when youre makiing it up as you go along how do you know youre getting all you need

Someone posted the other day about having an Exante Shake a BL bar and a S&S meal every day. What diet would that be and how do you even begin to know what nutrients youre getting/missing

The mix and match is becoming a problem on Minimins at the moment

In that case you wouldn't be a BL is not a total food replacement diet.

However, if you were using products for a 3 a day total food replacement from Exante and the same from S&S you are very unlikely to encounter problems as they are both total food replacement and therefore both designed to be used in this manner. And as I said they are probably pretty much the same things in a different packet.

3 S&S is normally nutritionally complete. It's only very occasionally that it won't be. I would say though that anyone wanting to mix and match should take supplements just in case though.

I mix SnS and lighter life. Both are full nutrition for 4 packs so no problem there. I follow the lighter life approach (4 packs per day - no veges - no milk) but substitute a few SnS packs a day instead of lighter life. As long as people consider the level of protein/carbs/cals in their meals and make sure thay are getting the equivalent (as I did before I started mixing) and are ensuring they are getting the right vitamins/minerals (either through the packs or with addition of a vitamin tablet) then I don't see a problem with it.

It's also a good way for people to try packs from another diet before making a decision about whether to move. Which was one of my motivations initially.

Yeah I guess if someone had 2 x Exante and 1 x S&S they might not realise that there might (depending on the S&S product) be a deficit in RDA and to take the multivit to top up. Someone on S&S should know that (or to use 4 packs per day and ensure 100%).

The BL MRP bars are ok I think - it's the snack bars that aren't. But then this info becomes urban legend and people misunderstand and go and buy the snack bars that aren't nutritionally complete or use the shakes that will kick you out of ketosis. I'm all for people making their own informed decisions but not for someone asking what it's right to do. Only they can decide if mix and match is something they should be doing.

Yes, but you obviously researched it and made your own decision to do this. I think it's people who just ask whether it's ok with no idea about the nutritional content of any of the products they're using that Starlight is concerned about.

Totally agree BG. It's the fact people are bring told it's perfectly ok to do that concerns me most

Definitely think it's something we need to get guidance on

But 3 S&S arent nutritionally complete so is 2 Exante plus 1 S&S enough or should it be 2 of each. Or are 2 S&S plus 1 Exante sufficient (my head hurts now lol)

Id say having 2 + 1 means youre not getting the full 100% and THATS how it can become a problem.

Don't give yourself a headache!! We know that you're only making the point because you care and don't want anyone to get ill :bighug:xx

It's like I admit to having a Gin and Tonic very occasionally. I have it at my mums and if I was to feel ill I'm in a safe place. I KNOW the dangers of alcohol on a diet like this and I would absolutely never ever recommend anyone so much as touches alcohol in ketosis. I've done research and so far it's been fine. It doesn't mean I'm doing the right thing and I wouldn't dream of suggesting it's ok because I do it

I've had 2 V&Ts when I met with some friends one evening on this VLCD. Totally my decision though and I'd read about the risks. I definitely would not have more than that (and I was a big drinker pre diet so very used to alcohol) without coming out of ketosis. I carbed up before my office Xmas meal but one of the S&S dieters who is a nurse at a hospital said that her consultant said that it was very dangerous to drink when on a VLCD and that she must come out of ketosis at least 24 hours before drinking so maybe my carby breakfast wasn't enough anyway? Again, my decision though.

I wouldn't recommend doing it but would give the right advice to someone who was looking at doing it.

That's fairly important advice, re alcohol that I haven't seen elsewhere. Only found out about it here. I passed it on to a new S & S-er who thought she'd researched the VLCD diet thoroughly. I'm 8 weeks ahead of her and she's advising me now - BUT she's not (yet) a miniminer hence she didn't know about the alcohol. Having said that, it must surely be on the S & S website? I'm guessing it is. Guilty as charged milud for not having read it all! :)

I'm not sure that the S&S website provides warnings about alcohol but it does say that you can't drink anything other than water and tea/coffee. Atkins does allow some alcohol and those guys are in ketosis.

I think it should be on there. It might sound obvious now, but it wasn't to me and people 'might' cheat a little over a weekend? If it wasn't important I'd say, serves em right, I mean it's NOT allowed. But if it could seriously affect one, then perhaps there should be some kind of warning.
