Red Day Thai Curry-no coconut milk

I have just worked out that the Philadelphia extra light would be 6.5 syns & the paste is 1 syn for a tablespoon so I wouldn't even syn this up, so 6.5 syns in total on EE.

BlueDragon light coconut milk is only 4.5 syns on EE for 100ml and well worth it for a better tasting Thai curry and you don't need to use the milk from your HeA

We had this today, only I changed the ingredients a tiny bit, to make it EE, so extra vegetables, so this is how I did it.

2 tsp Thai green curry paste
3 cloves garlic
1 inch fresh ginger
300ml vegetable stock
4 chicken breasts, sliced
1 small onion, finely sliced
Baby Sweetcorn diced
French beans diced
Mangetout sliced in half.
1 red pepper, diced
150 g Philadelphia Light (extra 30g cos cooked for 5 people)
4 tblsp semi-skimmed milk

So I cooked the onion and garlic and chicken in frylite, added the vegetable's and herbs etc and poured over the vegetable stock, allowed to simmer. Cooked my rice, and when that was ready, took the curry off the heat, and stirred through the philidelphia. Served.

This worked out to be 2 syns per portion including the semi skimmed milk.

Its was DEVINE!!!! It was seriously YUM!!! We will be having this again!!

It is yummy isnt it, sounds strange but works! I tend not to put the whole amount of phili in and bulk up on veg, I even put broccoli in which is yummy!
:)

Just checked the philli recipe on SW syns calculator and it is very high!
based on a portion of 100g=14 syns per serving.
If "a serving" relates to one persons portion.......
Beware!

The recipe serves 4 Pete. The only syns are:

2 tsp Thai green curry paste = 0.5
150 g Philadelphia Light = 12
4 tbsp semi-skimmed milk = 1.5

Total: 14 - so 3.5 syns each

Thank god for that! they should make it clearer on the recipe!

You could use liquidised cottage cheese (with added water to get the consistancy you want) with coconut essence added to your taste as a substitute in this recipe or for any that require coconut milk. Real coconut essence is hard to get hold of and quite expensive (Jane Asher's website has it) but I've seen cheaper versions in Asian shops which would probably work just as well in something cooked. Real coconut essence is used alot in baking. The cottage cheese would be syn free on EE too.....

I have been in touch with Kraft about that recipe, here is their reply "Thank you for contacting us regarding Philadelphia Cream Cheese. In response to your inquiry, the nutritional values offered on recipes are for each individual serving. I hope this fully answers your question".
Sorry folks but the syns are high!

Sorry folks but the syns are high!

My syns weren't off the nutritional info they posted Pete, they were straight off the ingredients for the whole recipe. As I stated above

"The recipe serves 4 Pete. The only syns are:

2 tsp Thai green curry paste = 0.5
150 g Philadelphia Light = 12
4 tbsp semi-skimmed milk = 1.5

Total: 14 - so 3.5 syns each"

To reiterate:

2 tsp Thai green curry paste = 0.5
4 chicken breasts, sliced = Free
1 small onion, finely sliced = Free
1 green pepper, sliced = Free
1 red pepper, finely sliced = Free
120 g Philadelphia Light = 12 syns
4 tbsp semi-skimmed milk = 1.5 syns

The entire recipe has 14 syns worth of ingredients in it. This is nothing to do with the nutritional values they give at the end as the menu contains a lot of free food. If you serve four people with it that's 3.5 syns each. If you eat the entire thing yourself it's 14 syns. The ingredients are worth 14 syns. End of.

Its just a coincidence that the calories per portion equal 14 syns. That doesnt account for the free food in it. When you account for the free food it's 14 syns for the whole recipe.

I stand corrected!:eek::eek:
