That "only half-a-pound"

Oh to be that poor "half-a-pound loss" that everyone seems to despise :sigh:. Go to the supermarket and pick up a pack of butter - that's what you've lost. Imagine it spread all over your stomach. Not nice, huh? But now it's gone, never to come back, and how much better is that?

I once lost a quarter of a pound. Yup, ONE-QUARTER. But I'd been for a lovely curry the weekend before WI and thoroughly enjoyed the beer with it. To see that scale barely move was, I admit it, heart-breaking - but then I realised I'd still lost. And that was a great feeling. I was still on the correct way.

A lot of my losses were like that before I got to my first target (achieved July 2009) - slow and steady. And since then, I've managed to stay around my target for the first time ever. The two have to be connected.

SW is a journey for life. I'm not worried about hitting my next target. It'll happen. And inbetween times, I can enjoy loads and loads of scrummy food. If I lose half-a-pound this week, I'll be happy.

0.5lb loss each week still amounts to 2 stone a year (almost!)

I know now that I would've rather kept plugging away at losing 0.5lbs a week rather than giving up SW and ending up heavier a year later!

If you don't you should. I'm a pound of fat, and I'm the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.

Want to know why? It's because no one ever wants to lose me;
I'm Only One Pound, just a pound.
Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds or fifteen pounds, but never only one,
so I just stick around and happily keep you fat.
Then I add to myself ever so slyly so that you never seem to notice it, that is until I've grown to ten, twenty or even more pounds in weight.
Yes, it's fun being Only One Pound of fat, left to do as I please.
So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying "Oh, I only lost one pound."
( as if that were such a terrible thing!)
For you see, if you do this you'll encourage others to keep me around because they will think I'm not worth losing.
And I love being around you -
your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you.

Fantastic !!! I dont mind loosing that little half of pound or just the pound .... the way i look at it is that its off and not on !!! A loss is a loss!!!

Nice thread. When my friends moan abt 1/2 - 1lb loss. I remind them that to lose 1/2lb you need to burn up 1750 cals and 1lb is 3500cals.

Although we are all on SW and cals are not a factor we all still feel better seeing how much we have worked off when put into cals lol

I used to go to a class where the lady would say if you lost half a pound, well done thats fantastic, half a pound is great etc. If you gained that half pound tho, suddenly it became tiny, she would say oh its only a tiny half, sure going to the toilet would shift that lol. She was fab!
