The getting married thread

It's never really bothered me until I started reading this lol and it got me thinking. People who've know us for years no where not married but most people think we are. I've worked with a lady for 10 years and it was only at Christmas when we where talking about something that she found out she was like I would of never known.

I think it goes by so fast we've got a 15 year old son and done a lot in life I just think we should of done it years ago and I suppose we've got used to it and it's not really mattered if that makes sense :) x

by the time we get married next year we will have been together for nearly 7 yr, if you asked me years back i would have thought that was nuts but time flies by so quickly especially when you are happy together. oh would quite happily trundle on as is he just sees marriage as a piece of paper which in a way is true cos i wouldnt want us to stay together because we were married, but because we love each other but theres something about marriage for me it will mean alot, my parents have been married for 36years so maybe thats it i dont know! not looking forward to changing my second name mind lol i like mine! x

Hi Hun, that does make sense. Marriage really is just a piece of paper! I think having a child together and being together so long is proof enough of your commitment to each other, although marriage is nice it's not the most important thing so don't let it bother you. However, it is never too late if you did want to get married. I have a friend whose parents have been together 20 years, have 2 kids and chose not to marry but this doesn't mean they love each other less as after all some marriages don't even last 15 years!

I'm in some way happy to change my surname, my new one flows nicely, or so I think! Carlie Halley.

Iv lost 2 stone so far, was in a size 22/20 and now in an 18. Looking to get to a 14 then maintain till after the wedding.

My dress is Benjamin Roberts 5105, look it up. I went dress shopping in Jan still size 22ish and didn't really see much then went back in April after losing a couple of stone and could get into loads more dresses. If they have a corset back u can still get them on n see what they are like, I was trying on size 12 dresses!

I love all three!!! The first one is so beautiful!

thanks hun, ive removed other pic cos it was tiny lol. i absolutely adore the back of that dress but i think its too sophisticated for me :p nobody expected me to have an ordinary dress but i havent found a dress thats 'me' and maybe it would be okay to be normal for just the one day hehe

Hello! I'm getting married - but not until December 2012.
Got engaged last summer, but due to the extravagant cost of weddings, and we are self funding, we decided on next year.
Booked the venue and photographer, and have picked out the bridesmaid dresses. Nothing else done yet.
Currently stuck in the middle of "operation fit in a gorgeous dress" and "operation pay for the wedding".
Neither projects are much fun!! Hehe!
Colours are the shades in a peacock feather (teal with accents of purple and olive).
Hoping to be close enough to goal by October, so I can go dress shopping then. I'm dreading it at the moment, but hoping I'll enjoy it more if I have lost more weight. Thinking of going for an altered vintage dress. Been researching shops and specialised dress makers, do I have a good plan of who I want to see.
We're having a big wedding. Small family, but lots of friends we want to share it with.
I've never dreamed of a fairytale, so I'm determined for it not to become too traditional. I'm aiming for something more suited to my quirky side, but OH prefers classic, so we'll hopefully end up with something in the middle!
Would love to hear more about your plans.

Hi, I'm getting married on 28th July 2012. I'm having a church wedding in London. My theme is Black and White. I'm having 4 bridesmaids and 2 flower girls. X

Haha...I am like your OH, it wouldn't bother me if I didn't get married. I think as long as you are happy together, that's the main thing. I think marriage often brings a lot of pressures and
I don't know why it should change things but I think it does for some people. Having said that, I am really happy that I have been asked and had no hesitation in saying yes!! And I'm really happy about it and it does somehow make me feel complete. Never thought I'd say that!!
Changing my name however is a different matter. I'm like you on that one!! I have always said if I ever got married that I would keep my surname...afterall, I've had it all my life, why should I change it now!! See I told you I wasn't very conventional!!!
I'm still undecided on that one though now it's actually happening! I think these days more women are keeping their name or changing to a double barrelled name. Our names don't really work as double b so that's out of the question.

I'm in two minds about this too, although be nice to share a name mines way too long to double barrel with his and I'm reluctant to lose it + I think my surname much nicer lol may do what my friend did and take my surname as a middle name then his as the surname as I know he wants me to have his name. Still in two minds really
