The really slow loss team!

LOU

I think you made some fantastic comments regarding stress, cortisol, hormones and all that stuff. I live on my nerves....aren't you supposed to burn up more energy like that.....guess what folks, not me? :D

Also regarding you giving up booze. Exactly the same as when I did, not an ounce passed from this "flabulous" body in response.

Same with chocolate. I am on day 25 now and no "real chocolate" except options (synned) and it has made no difference whatsoever!!

Funnily enough though I am not craving it one bit, so maybe I have beaten the addiction! (maybe ;)).

Felicity I am having my throid checked next week in a fasting blood test.

Will let you all know if I lose any smidgeons of blubber tomorrow night. :)

I am going to post my weight loss journey and show just how up and down it has been.

Sorry it's a bit all over the place. I expect you can see why I am so fed up with it all and it was at 12/1 that I finally snapped and lost any kind of optimism!

It looks like my body wants me to be 10 stone 6 lbs as it keeps taking me there!

PS Sometimes I missed a week, because I could not face group.

What do you think?

PPS. I think I have lost my half stone award several times!!

So I started off with a relatively low but steady loss, which I was prepared to accept as I could see my weight going down but it's now all going horribly wrong .....

Meadow it is difficult to stay positive in the light of the truth!

I actually lost the same amount I have still only lost - in the first four weeks!!

My SWC keeps saying that there has to be a reason ie. I am eating something or drinking something that is stopping me losing. She came up with an example of a lady in my situation who was unknowingly drinking lots of syns in flavoured water, but I don't drink anything like that.

I don't eat particularly big portions either, certainly nothing like the pictures, but then they say "oh you may not be eating enough", believe me I have tried all ways to see what could be going on?

Well I have about 9 weeks of a countdown left and I am going to give it my very best shot. After that, I may have to either accept myself, continue alone along with you girls, or try another diet (hate that word).

Very, very difficult. All I can say is if anyone out there is pre-menopause and wants to lose it, do it now, as it's been hell for me to even lose this 5.5 lbs post menopause.

I cannot continue though going to group and feeling like I do, imagine if I am still like this in a year's time????? Arghhhhh

I would have been happy to lose 0.5 or a 1. lb a week but when I did it seemed to go back on very quickly.

hey you chatty bunch. just a quickish post to update you on my situation. i have been to docs and shes testing my thyroid, gormone levels and iron levels. she thinks its probably pcos but said i could have an underactive thyroid whih would explain my cold hands and feet suddenly, lack of weight loss but speedy weight gain and irratic periods. but if its not that and its pcos flared up again then she said there is a tablet she can give to help, she also mentioned giving me something to help with my weight loss cos she agreed that while the amount they like you to lose is 1-2 pounds a week, gaining 5 and a half in one week when i didnt go over board is excessive then to only lose 1 pound when i increased exercise and really reduced intake of food isnt right. she agrees that something isnt right at all. so just got to wait for the verdict now ill post my stats later

LOU

It appears to me that you are doing very very well with your weight loss.

Yes I have the same symptoms as you and am almost hoping there is something wrong with my thryroid - how bad is that?

There is some tablet that doctors have been giving. I think its called metformin or something like that, usually for diabetes if I am right?

I think you are doing so well considering you have all those health problems and little kids to bring up.

Anyway, I have to get off this site for a while as I think I am becoming addicted to it!!! :)

Hi ladies. I have an underactive thyroid that changes severity every so often. If you are diagnosed with it you'll be put on eltroxin. I too suffer from cold hands & feet so it sounds like it could be your problem. It really does make it more difficult to lose weight & I find that I have to exercise & stick to the plan 100% to get a loss.

I know what you mean when you say that you nearly wish that that's what it is. At least then you have a reason for your slow losses & you can help the situation with medication. I reckon I'm on the wrong dosage myself at the moment which isn't helping my losses but I hate having to pay EUR55 to go to my GP just for that so I tend to wait until there's something else wrong with me too!! I sometimes wish I lived in the UK rather than Ireland as I believe the NHS is brilliant in comparison to our health service!!

Best of luck with your diagnosis. x

thanks for the support guys.

i asked about metformin and the doctor said they arent licensed to give this to treat pcos anymore? but there is something else she can give me beginning with an o? it was hard to listen to her cos my 2 year old decided to pick that very moment to have a complete breakdown. i hope it isnt underactive thyroid if im honest as steves aunty and 2 of his cousins have problems with their thyroid and its a real pain in the bum trying to get dosage right etc. but im not sure which is the lesser of 2 evils. they thought this before though and said that my thyroid function was fine,,,so im not convinced. ive never ever had cold hands and feet before in my life, theyre normally really warm all the time, which is why i dont own many pairs of socks, i never wear them! but i am wearing socks and slippers atm, its just not like me at all. well see anyway..just hope whatever it is that they can give me something to help

I am still on metformin for PCOS and I get a repeat prescription from my Dr. I have been told I will probably be on it for life.
It ess originally an endriconologist who prescribed it so maybe you need to see a specialist

am glad you are having investigations, your gp sounds good. as i thought it sounded kind of thyroid ish so am happy your gp considered this.

As far as I know it has never been licensed for PCOS only diabetes but specialists will over ride and prescribe it then instruct your Dr to continue prescribing it.

1lb off tonight so I've finally reached my first stone :)

My friend was prescribed metformin for her PCOS but again, she was diagnosed years ago. Hope you get it sorted out soon, Lou. Sounds like you're having a hell of a time.

Once again, apologies for not posting much. It's not that I'm not supporting, just that I've got so much on right now. My friend who was in an accident (that I mentioned before xmas) still hasn't woken up. They're now saying that she's not in a coma at all but suffered a stroke and her state now is just how she's going to be, she's 30 :( It's heartbreaking but I won't go into all that. On a brighter note, trying to organise the wedding and everything that goes with it and trying to pay for it! Balancing regular life and SW is difficult at the best of times, let alone when we're all faced with these challenges that get thrown at us. Keep the faith, girls. I still believe that even if we gain more than we want to, if we're lighter than we were when we started the plan in the first place then we're better off. At least until we sort or issues out and can get back on with it.

Sending love to those who need it.

oh hels thats really really sad.....sorry to hear that news was it a stroke she had originally? (no need to answer if you dont want I am a very nosey nurse)

Lou, Latte is spot on when a drug isnt licensed for a particular use the specialist applies for it to be used "off license". They get permission to prescribe it with your consent and agreement and then write to your Gp to repeat the prescription.

No one really seems to know, Felicity. Originally it was epilepsy and her "coma" was drug induced so they could operate on her broken leg and stop any further fitting, then she never came out of it. They did a scan just after New Year and they said that she's not "locked in" which we all took as being good news, at least she's not scared. It's coming up for 7 weeks since the accident and she's now been moved to a specialist stroke unit in London for 6 weeks assessment. Fingers crossed they can perform a miracle and bring a little bit of her back to us.

Didn't realise you were a nurse, Felicity. They do such an incredible job. :)

thank god she hasnt got locked in syndrome! that was my question i dare not ask you about. yeah i am a childrens nurse in the cancer unit in Leeds (for my sins).
