The really slow loss team!

Lou - I've had a quick look through your MFP stuff and the food mostly looks ok. But . . . my comments would be
a) try and cut out any instant foods, things like tinned soups and the Mattiesons sausage. They are full of fat and E-numbers. Try making your own soup from scratch and try turkey or chicken sausages as these are much lower in fat. Don't bother with quorn ones - they are revolting! (Although some of the other quorn products are good and are fat free so low in calories). Also Processed peas are high in fat. Even breaded ham has extra calories over normal sliced ham - and cut the fat off.
b) if you need salad cream or mayo, buy the low fat ones (the ones I use are < 50 cals per 100g and therefore class as free on SW). We all underestimate the amout we have unless we actually measure it and salad cream and full fat mayo appeared a few times.
c) swap to Semi-skimmed milk instead of whole milk
d) lose the jelly - empty cals and not at all filling
e) lose the mug shots - again empty cals. You know the SW rules for snacks, it should be Superfree fruit or veg which will also help your bloat and any *ahem* toilet problems. But basically I would say no snacks at all - they are the root of all evil and when you are so close to target could be the extra difference between losing weight or not. (I had to cut them out completely to lose at all over the last 12 months).
f) why 2 * 185g salmon steaks? Just the 1 should be perfectly sufficient.
g) there seems to be a fair amount of bread being eaten. Which will not be helping with the bloat.

This might sound a bit picky but this is where you are adding extra calories that you can easily cut out.

I also can't see any mention of any oil being used for cooking. If you are dry frying things then that's fine. If not you may be omitting some big calories from your list of foods eaten.

Also, are you drinking enough liquid? There is no mention of this in your diaries but I don't know whether MFP makes you record this. It should be 6-8 big glasses of water a day which will help get rid of the bloat. Add NAS squash or have have herbal teas if you can't stand plain water.

Exercise.
Cooking times - I think you may be overestimating this. I reckon it normally takes me about 15 minutes of actual physical exercise to cook a meal. 20 minutes for something really complex. Ok it takes longer than this to actually cook but you aren't actually doing much during this time except to get up and stir it a few times maybe. Your numbers for the following dates are 22/11 is 180 mins = 3 hrs, 25/11 is 300 mins = 6 hrs and 28/11 is 180 mins = 3hrs. This is taking big numbers of exercise cals off so you may not be being as good as you think.

Watch Masterchef - they get 1 hour to do really flashy stuff and there is no way I would ever do this amount of prep and cooking for a meal.

The other exercise you add in like pushing stroller and cleaning are what I class as normal everyday routine and I wouldn't count these or eat the cals back. This is the core/basic exercise you need to do to actually burn up the calories you have eaten. The days you actually go out to your cleaning job can be counted as can the bike riding but I'd stop counting the rest and see if that makes a difference.

Little things add up and as I said your BMI Is already healthy so losing the last few pounds will be difficult.

Hugs chica

The cooking is t at home it's my job lol. I'm there 5 hours and run around that whole time cooking as we take order after order. I don't get a break and don't sit down the whole time, if we're quieter I reduce the amount if time so I'm not putting down as burning more cals. I don't usually eat yogurt, sausages, mug shots etc so maybe that's been the difference this week. That tin if soup is the first one I've had in weeks, and the jellies are to satisfy a sugar craving rather than full a hole and I only had 2 this week :) I eat 2 slices of nimble almost every day as if I cut all carbs my ibs plays up and I do t eat rice and rarely eat pasta, do t have potatoes every day so don't think I'm over doing carbs tbh. I had 2 salmon fillets as I only had a mines ule amount of salad and didnt want to be hungry later and I do t think I went over cals that day, I've also cut down on cheese this week cos I thought I was eating too much of that :/ I will may e have to look at what I was eating a few months ago when I lost alot of weight quickly. I will make sure I don't ha e any more mug shots etc and I agree about the snacking thing. Its an area I'm really trying to work on. It's so bloody hard isn't it?! Thanks for looking cx

Oh and I do t use oil I either dry fry in my gridle pan, oven bake, grill or use fry light :D xx

Hola girls may I please creep back in again please.

To cut a long story short I have finally been diagnosed with Crohns disease after lots of tests, blood tests and a colonoscopy. Plus I was put on a lacto free diet which essentially meant I was eating vegan supplemented with eggs and some fish and most soy products have syns.

To say I was devastated was an understatement. It was only confirmed a week ago and then we went to Tenerife for a week. Got back yesterday and need to start all over again.

I have been put on a high dose of steroids called Entocort on 3 a day for 8 weeks then 2 a day for 4 weeks then 1 a day for 4 weeks then onto auto immune suppressents as far as I know.

I have been going to SW and I am now part of the social team but in 3 weeks on the steroids I put on 3lbs so 1lb a week and I am meant to be on the ones with the least side effects. Plus I have just been on holiday and now my diet is so restricted it is difficult to keep within SW.

So I need help as I will be having a complete lifestyle change and diet change which will be confirmed when I see the specialist nurse after I have my follow appointment with the specialist to start the next stage of treatment.

I am also on calcium vitamin d tablets and iron. I had lost 1 stone 2lbs since last July. But goodness knows what my return weigh in will be like on Tuesday.

I have to confirm that he still wants me to keep with SW but I wanted to check in say hello and explain my absence.

Hope you are all well and I will try to catch up

I was just thinking of you yesterday. Aw you poor thing, at least you have a diagnosis and a plan of action which involves short term steroids. Seeing as you have to eat mainly vegan stuff would cal counting be better that way no food is banned or highly synned, the cals are what they are and it's more about cutting down amounts of stuff xx

Hi Latte - lovely to "see" you back here. So sorry about your Crohn's, but glad you at least have a diagnosis so you can move forward. Being a recipient of long-term steroids I feel you pain - my maintainence dose in the winter is the equivalent of 6 x Entocort a day (I take Prednisilone - packed with side effects, but the only one that works for my needs!), but they have been cranked up recently to the equivalent of 8 and I managed to gain nearly 2lbs last week despite being very good on my calories. It can be extremely disheartening but you will get through (((hugs)))...................

I agree with Lou that you might find calorie counting easier now - I certainly do. Good luck with your renewed efforts......... you can do this :) and once they have your Crohn's settled down you can likely come off the steroids and just keep it controlled with diet - perhaps an occasional short-term redose if it flares.

If you need a chat with someone who understands how ruddy frustrating it can be to try your hardest then not lose - or even gain - I am always at the the other end of a pm my lovely xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Latte - great to have you back and glad that you finally have a diagnosis. The steroids will be tough but as Annya says you can get through this chica.
((( Big hugs ))) to you.

Monday morning WI onces again and I've finally managed to get rid of all the gain from 2 weeks ago and a bit more beside. Lost 0.8 kgs (1¾ lbs this week).
So I'm over on the naughty step doing a few lines.

I'm still not quite back to where I was at the beginning of October - thanks to gains from Barça trip and friends visiting us
But I'm getting there. Now only 0.75 kg (1.65 lbs) away from final destination!!!

Mind you, I'm off to the UK tomorrow for 9 days staying with both my and hubs mums. It won't be too bad at my mum's as she doesn't mind eating SW style but his mum insists on cooking "wholesome" stuff - i.e. lots of carbs - so I'm expecting a slight gain. So long as I can stay in range of target I won't be too peed off.

Not looking forward to it though. Watched the Countryfile weather forecast yesterday and it looks as though it's going to be blumin' cold for the next week or so. Just hope I've got room in my case for lots of layers to keep warm :(

Well done! That's a great loss!! It is FREEZING here atm, I'm in Yorkshire, not sure where your going but we've had flooding and ice, I've dug my snow boots out, furry hat, gloves, scarves etc. itwasso cold last night I put the heating on through the night

It's blumin' cold here too. I slept with my elecric blanket on for most of the night as I just couldn't get warm.
Mind you we don't have any heating in the house so it's a tad tricky to keep warm at this time of year - house built for the heat.

We're visiting Manchester and Cornwall. The weather in Cornwall doesn't look too bad in terms of cold but it looks as though it's going to be really windy. And Manchester is always cold. Why couldn't my parents have moved south for the warmth?

It was blumin' cold in South Wales yesterday - Annya reckons it was -9! Not looking forward to THAT!

-9!!!!! Eurgh!! That's far too cold!! Hopefully it will snow for Christmas Day though that would be nice :) I like the snow. Mind you I'm just learning to drive so I probably won't like it when I have to drive in it!!

I've had porridge for breakfast today, got homemade soup cooking, and gonna have a healthy fry up for tea. Yummy.

Thank you for the welcome back xxx

I live near Manchester and work in Liverpool and yes it is freezing especially after the 18-20 degrees in Tenerife!

Annya it is good to get your perspective on things thank you x
Yes predisolone is the other steroids suitable for Crohns but he said Entocort should give me less side effects so I dread to think what weight gain I would have on that considering I am gaining 1lb a week on the other.

I probably will calorie count but with the support of us tortoises!

Bless you latte, even if you just aim to not gsin too much whilst your steroids get reduced hun it doesn't matter, as by the sounds of it taking steroids is like fighting a losing battle in regards to weight loss. Once they are reduced I'm sure yol find it easier x

nice to see you back latte, chrohns is rotten but you have been so fed up with all your hospital visits and unknowns it may help you pick up the pieces again. steroids are harsh tho-especially as they can alter your tastes and food intake as well!

and its lovely to see you old schoolers are still here. i ventured onto the scales and think its time for action again! Booooooooooo.

Lou I feel your pain

Right - off to UK now. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
See you in 10 days.
