The weekenders

I thought if start a thread for anyone who uses flexi syns or goes 'off plan' for the weekend. Sometimes I'm worried about writing about my 'naughty weekend' in some threads but I also notice that as soon as someone posts that they're worried about what happened/is happening on the weekend we all support saying we're in the same boat.

My biggest problem is that when I have a weekend out planned I struggle to stay on plan in the week so this isn't about 'bragging' about being off plan or flexi synning but about to support people who have weekends coming up/just gone that it is possible to build these into the plan effectively and not to worry to the point where it means you go of track all week.
I hope that makes sense and that this is taken in the way it's meant to????

I agree here!

Id like to know whats the best approach when you've been invited out for drinks?!! Sad to say I love wine, but that's high :( xxx

I know, I used to drink pints or wine. I tried spirit and mixer but end up drinking twice as much so syns are the same. Lol. Saw the low syn (And low alcohol - 1 unit a glass) wine in the mag but haven't found any yet and doubt any pubs/bars serve it. Rubbish.

Anyone else?

Weekends are always tough for me I like socialising I love drinking great wine and I even like feeling a little bit drunk! I know all the advice about what do you want more but what I want is to lose weight and still have a fun weekend. I am happy if that means my weight loss is slower but I do have a few rules.
1- the weekend is Fri and sat not Thu to Mon
2 - stick to food on plan for the major of the weekend so for example i have been on plan today and will have a sw tea but may have some choccy and will have extra syns on a couple of glasses of wine . Tomorrow breakfast and lunch will be free and superfree but we are at friends for tea.
3. I am relaxing slightly not going on a bender and will not stuff myself or eat excessive amounts
4. The next few days I am back on it and find I naturally eat fewer syns

I know this wouldnt work for everyone but i have a long road ahead. If I ever stop losing then I will rethink my strategy

I usually take a meal off a day during the weekend, and I do love my wine something fierce so there's usually a bottle as well :)

Some of the things I do to compensate throughout the week are to drink a ton of water every day. Aim for almost colourless pee (TMI...I know). And walk a lot and exercise every other day.

Do you find this approach affects your loses or gives you small loses?

Probably :) But I'm okay with it because I see it as a way to learn how to maintain the weight I get to. Don't get me wrong, I know that, for me, taking the entire weekend off will result in a gain and makes the rest of the week stressful and difficult.

But having small nibbles and drinks one evening with friends and staying on plan for the rest of the weekend is a good balance for me.

I try to stay on track all day for nights out. Problem is, I was away yesterday and coming back today. Had 2 pints, a tandoori mixed grill (approx 8 syns) and a pepper stuffed with lamb (about 1.5 syns) but also succumbed to a panini in the day (which is why I started this group).

Got loads of fruit and some syn free egg fried rice in my bag for train journey home, gonna have sw cooked breakfast when I get back about 1.30 (backward I know but it stops me buying at the platform) but am out again tonight for a friends birthday. Going for an Italian which I know I can pick sw choices from and gonna try and stick to spirit and mixer but if I find I'm drinking too quickly I'm going to switch to half pints as I found I take as long to drink those as I do a pint. Yay!!
Might also treat myself to a glass of wine with the meal.

Plan for Sunday is then gym, lots of water and melon and mon is water and melon (weigh in day). Fingers crossed.

Weekends are a bit of a nightmare for me....I either avoid social occasions or go at it like a bull at a gate, eat all round me and drink like a fish....result is about a 4lb (i know mostly fluid but still ...) gain the following day that makes me feel rubbish...
I find it really difficult to lose weight and I've been so good this week and exercised loads but have been invited out for a Chinese at our friends house and I'm now even stressing about that!!! :-( don't want to see my 2lb loss disappear overnight but I also have to have a bit of fun too so I'm not going to drink but enjoy my Chinese with diet coke.....go on the treadmill for an hour this afternoon and have no syns til tonight....hopefully there won't be any other temptations at my mates house as crisps are my downfall

I just keep reminding myself how good I'll feel tomorrow if I behave myself

I find weekends hard, I think a lot of it is having more free time as when I'm at work I'm so busy that I don't have time to start thinking about biscuits and crisps. I get a short lunchbreak, so by the time I've eaten my SW-friendly lunch and had some tea, theres no time for craving more!!

I tend to use very few syns during the week. I might have some toast on saturday morning and use some syns for butter, if I have a jacket potato during the week I use some for a little mayonnaise, and maybe 1-2 times a week I have an options hot chocolate. So I am really good during the week because at the weekend I always really want alcohol ;) So I will probably open a nice bottle of white wine tonight, but I am ok with that as I genuinely use so fews syns elsewhere.

I find a really helpful thing is to plan a SW-friendly but indulgent meal for saturday nights. My favourite is SW chips with lots of beans, or SW chicken curry. That way I feel like I've had a really yummy meal and am ok if my family start eating pizza or cake. So I would recommend planning your absolute favourite meals for the weekend so you feel like you've still had a nice treat.

This sounds just like me and I do try stick to a yummy SW tea on a Saturday night, however do you find that wine makes you crave naughty food on top?

If I've had a nice plate of SW chips and beans, I genuinely feel satisfied and can enjoy my wine usually without feeling the need for more. Sometimes I am hit with a sweet craving and am tempted to have some chocolate or cake, but I usually tell myself that the wine is my treat and to start having even more treats is excessive and not within plan. Saturdays are probably the hardest day for me, so I work hard at keeping my syns low during the week so if temptation gets too much then it should be ok. I'd rather enjoy lots of syns on a saturday as opposed to a few every night, although for me having something like a takeaway would be too dangerous as that is so syn-heavy I know I'd write-off sunday as well. And then probably the week, and then all of a sudden all the weight will be back..........

Well, weekend was a bit 'wild' syns wise but hopefully won't affect tonight TOO much and it wasn't my typical weekend.
Friday, went to tenby, had a starbucks panini (23 syns), maple syrup flapjack (12.5 syns), 2 pints (17 syns) and a curry (8 syns) then saturday had sw food all day (no syns) but went out and drunk more than I can actually manage to keep track of but probably ended up with the same syns. So working on the basis that I had 60 syns on each day.
Yesterday though, got straight back on track and had sw ham and egg muffins for breakfast (free), sw chip butty for lunch with some cajun mayo (2 syns) and rice, sausage, philly, onion and mushroom for tea (4 syns).
Today so far is wholemeal toast for breakfast, blueberries to snack on, sweet and sour rice time for lunch and an activia snackpot.
As well as all of that I have also drunk a ton of water the last 2 days. I hope to have salvaged something!!
This weekend I am only planning to have a couple of drinks and probably a curry on Sat night, not sure how long my brain can cope with the stress of 2 boozy/foody nights, hahaha.

Hope everyone else had a good one! :)

dream slim - sounds like you had a weekend like mine !
lost count on alcohol syns, made 2 rounds of cheese on toast (white bread) when I got in with brown sauce then some Xmas chocs (horrible ones that have been left for a reason haha) then continued the next day to scoff off plan cheese sandwiches and cake.

I have been trying to make up for it the past couple of days with gallons of water herbal tea a super-frees!

fingers crossed for no gain at WI tomorrow

Good luck with it!! I managed to lose 1lb. Although I had Friday night and Saturday night 'off' that was it. Friday day, Saturday day and sun were pretty good actually. Although it did mean I had to turn down the bf's cooking which I don't think he was very happy with. Lol. (he made a soup but with BUTTER and loads of it!).

I don't know what you do but I used to beat myself up if I had a couple of nights of and when I beat myself up I do it with food. I've started trying to adjust my thinking (easier said than done but defo doable) so instead of thinking of certain foods as 'treats' they're just part of the plan or 'x number of syns' and instead of thinking of being a 'naughty' night out or whatever I just think of it as a night out.

That for me really helps to get back on track the next day rather than blowing out the week and ruining weigh in for the sake of having a life at the weekend. Lol.

Anyway, good luck with it. Xx

Aww I am so glad I found this thread!! I am going away at the weekend so I am really just trying to stay on plan all week. I am going away with my husband, my sister and her partner. My sister is also doing sw so that should help me a bit. I know that it will be a pretty boozy weekend though. Like someone else mentioned I love wine and tend to always drink that! When I do drink spirits as the lower syn version i just drink more so it defeates the purpose!!! I will be happy just to stay the same or have a small gain!!!

Hi all I was out at the weekend and drank prob 70 syns in one nite however I'm 24 and single and i don't do it every weekend so Im not beating myself up over it, that's just part of my life and I'm not prepared to give it up :)

Bubblensqueak I know what you mean, I usually drink corona which takes me longer to drink than vodka so for me the beer is less syns. Hope you have a good weekend and get back on plan when u get home :) x

The only way i have to deal with it is be on plan food wise and stick to plan all week and get right back on it on sunday morning!!

This is my plan too and, thankfully, for the last 2 weeks I've been ok. I know it won't last forever though but I'm hoping I'm at a much more comfortable weight when it does stop or maybe more into exercise?

I love my weekends and I'm only 27, don't go mad and go clubbing or anything just like going to the pub with friends or the bf but still wouldn't wanna be deprived of it. Lol

Last weekend went a bit off track to be honest :( had a crappy week that I'm not going to go into coz I have started a mantra of 'No More Excuses'.
I thought I'd ressurect this thread ready for the coming weekend if anyone wants to share or wants some extra support?
Going to see Kathryn Jenkins tomorrow night so no alcohol intake planned but there possibly will be for Sat. That's usually the night that me and the OH go to the pub for a few followed by a curry. I'm allowing myself 40 syns for that but so far am 27 short on this weeks 'allowance' so not massively worried about it.
Anyone else got anything planned?
