Thinking about doing cambridge diet

I am struggling to lose much at all by eating healthily and am envious of the amazing weight losses of those doing the cambridge diet,
I have been worried whether or not I can be that disciplined(sp) I am a catering manager and although I don't eat all day long, I am surrounded by food and then come home and cook for a family, Isn't shopping also a horrible temptation?
The cost also worries me but have spoken to husband and he agrees its worth a try,
I am also worried that I will do it and won't lose as much as I hope and will be disappointed, can someone just convince me to go for it please.

Well, it worked for me when everything else failed.

Also, the cost isn't too much really when you consider that you don't eat anything else.

Worked for me too.........it's FAB :D

I lost 10 stone in 7 months......what other diet does that???!!

Go for it hun.......give it a try, the only thing you have to lose is weight!

Well I've managed just a whole week (and intend at least 11 more), and I would say, don't kid yourself, it IS hard, but totally different from any diet ever.

With Weight Watchers/ Healthy Eating etc, I would always kid myself - oh, this one crisp won't hurt, oh, we're stuck here for the next hour, why don't we just go for a drink (or three). On CD, you just can't. You either stick to the rules, or you don't. You can't have a 'little' cheat, or I'll just have this weekend off, which turns into a week or ten. This has always been my downfall, and I just can't kid myself now!

It's working for me so far, but I think you really have to be in the right place mentally, and keep repeating to yourself - nothing tastes as good as being thin will feel!

And whatever diet you decide on, this board is a great place to hand around whilst your other half is consuming lasagne (as mine is right now!). Good luck!

Debz - This is my new home. And can't keep making husband eat foods I don't like so I'm not temped ;)

hi I'm in the same kind of place as you right now. I work with food all day then have to come home and cook for my kids.

I did start off thinking it was going to be expensive but then I decided it'll save me money after all. I coud be wrong but I got told it's about £30 - £35 a week which is up to £5 a day and I wont need anything else other than that. It will stop me just taking the kids out for tea or whatever because I cant be bothered to make something (which I do way too often and costs about £30 a time!), and when I go out with friends it'll save me a fortune because i wont be drinking so I can drive there and back instead of getting taxis. I don't really like alcohol anyway so not drinking wont be a problem for me.

Anyway, I haven't started yet but I'm going to see a counsellor tomorrow so I can get started.

Like someone said there...nothing to lose but weight. I hope you go for it and do well on it.

Can't really add anything new here, it's already been said.

VLCDs are the hardest diets in some ways but in other ways they're the easiest. Must be cos nothing else has worked for me!

Cost wise, I find food shopping is about the same after all you can't buy a chicken with my portion removed so either the rest of the family eat more (not a good trend) or the dogs get a treat! Have made HUGE savings on other things though, just as you say; eating out happens far less often for the family and they appreciate it as a treat now. Socialising is cheaper especially if you order soda water instead of sparkling mineral water I can't taste the difference if I add some flavouring and usually pubs don't charge! DH tends to drink less too if I'm not drinking. No taxi fares, I drive or we walk cos we feel fitter and more active. Trips to the sweetshop with the kids have lessened too. Even non-foodie outings such as the cinema have become cheaper after all I would never have contemplated a movie without popcorn before!

Good luck at your meeting with the counsellor tomorrow. Keep us posted about your decision.
