week 4 and stuck already

I'm hardly eating anything - under 600 cals a day, under 60 carbs. Every day, no cheating. Yet I gained 1lb last week and it's still sitting there this week. I can't eat any less, so what can I do? :(

Youre gaining because youre starving yourself

What plan are you meant to be following

I'm not sure :D I like the sound of primal/paleo but I also think that LC gets rid the weight off. I would eat more if I could - but the only things I feel like eating are not allowed! There's a limit to how much meat a person can eat in a day, and I'm not a lover of cheese or eggs. I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to get this eating sorted out. Made myself eat more today so will see how that works. TY all xx
EDITED- Is it harder when you're over 60?

I woke up thinking the same thing Starlight. Maybe LC isn't for me. I thought when I cut out all carbs the weight would fall off but it didn't happen...although today I've lost 1lb. But this isn't just a diet, it's supposed to be a new way of eating for life - and I just don't think I can go through life struggling to find something to eat. I will read up on Paleo/Primal I think, and maybe forget the LC, see how that goes. Am so disappointed though, I wanted to lose a stone for my daughter coming home. :(

Don't think calorie counting will do though, at this rate I seem to be able to live on starvation levels

Here's the thing. At 600 calories you're not eating enough to physically keep your heart beating, to carry on breathing or any kind of function the body is required to do. Therefore the body takes the energy needed from itself. First from fat and muscle and eventually from the organs themselves, which leads to heart attacks as the heart wall weakens.

VLCD are recommended for people with high BMI's and nearly always with medical supervision and a set timescale and with nutritionally complete food packs. From the sounds of it, not only are you doing a VLCD but also restricting the types of food you can eat? Which means you’re unlikely to be getting everything the body needs in terms of vitamins and minerals.

At 600 calories your body will be holding on to every single calorie you consume because it will think it’s in a time of starvation and store accordingly (known as starvation mode), this is why 1200 is many peoples lowest range, because at that you’re consuming at least as many calories as required to keep yourself alive, therefore all the extras you do like, sitting up and moving around are taken from fat stores.

Work out your BMR (basic metabolic rate – basically what you’d need to consume if you spent all day in bed) and always try and eat close to or slightly above that in calories. BMR Calculator.

Trust me, it seems REALLY weird BUT in this case if you eat more you’ll actually lose more and probably faster.

What you are doing doesn't sound healthy and it's clearly not working!

You are starving your body.

I lost 8 stone in a year doing slimming world and I ate a real decent amount of food. What was important was that I was eating the RIGHT food. Maybe slimming world is not for you, or maybe weight watchers is not for you but you should definitely try something else.

And contrary to popular belief carbs are NOT the enemy! Wholemeals, brown rice and brown pasta are not bad for you. Neither are vegetables!

Personally I think the best way to lose weight is just to eat a little of what you like along with lots of healthy foods. I know a lot of diets work for short term but if your not enjoying It and are denying yourself the things that you love it's likely that you will end up putting the weight back on as soon as you come off the diet . I would eat three healthy meals a day with maybe one treat and some low cal healthy snacks and do lots of exercise . This way you may lose the weight a lot slower but it will be a lot easier to stick to and maintain . Good luck ! Xx

This wasn't a decision to limit calories, this was jsut what came up on myfitnesspal when I listed what I eat daily. I do understand and will try to sort this, if only I can find enough food that I like. I've spent 10 years being quite ill with ME and now wonder if some of that was due to bad diet, because I was always a very picky tiny eater!

I agree with louieec I've been on slimming world for a month and like yourself I'm a picky eater don't eat sausages don't eat cheese or peppers so I've adapted the don't likes and put in what I do like and on the sw pages on this site there are fantastic recipes give it a go.
