What word do you dislike the most and why

I saw a poster in Reading today which asked us all to come along when some minor celebrity I have never heard of "turn's on the Christmas lights". TURN'S!!!!! I kid you not.

That's HORRIBLE!

When did the word "gift" become a verb? I have just read this on a Channel Islands news website:

"Jersey millionaire David Kirch is once again gifting £100 worth of vouchers to every Island resident over the age of 70 this Christmas."

Gifting?? Why not giving??
