So, lately I've had a few people ask me if the photo in my profile picture is actually me, and if it is then why am I calling myself obese & saying I need to lose 6 stone etc..
Well yes, that photo & the one other photo on my profile ARE me. They are taken November 2011, when I was a size 8 and 133lbs. I was always small, but how I maintained my small figure wasn't clever & now I'm paying the price.
Firstly, I exercised excessively. Before starting my new job that I'm currently in, I was on maternity leave after having my son, and thanks to the fact I have amazing family to help, I managed to hit the gym EVERY single morning & my son would be looked after by his nan. I'd spend roughly 2 hours a day there, doing a mixture of weight training for an hour & then cardio for an hour..
Secondly, I ate very little. During the week I'd consume no more than 900 calories a day, some days would even be as low as 650. But then on weekends I'd binge like a crazy person, and eat anything & everything I wanted. Somehow it worked & helped me shed the 4 stone I'd gained through pregnancy within 4 short months and keep it off for quite a while. But then I started my new job, and with a full time job & a very young baby I was so tired and worn out that I didn't have time to go to the gym as often, and my workouts dropped down to maybe 3 or 4 days a week for an hour at a time. I then also found that after my weekend binge I just couldn't get into the swing of being strict during the week, and quickly enough I ended up binging EVERYDAY, not watching what I ate or how much of it.
Obviously I rapidly started gaining weight, and the past 12 months I've gained 6 stone, all thanks to starving myself in the past and being downright stupid so I royally screwed up my metabolism.
I can't say I've binged every single day for a year, because I probably haven't.. but for the most part I've eaten too much of the wrong foods but there has been some days when I've eaten fairly okay, probably around my TDEE.
So that's what happened - 12 months later I'm 220lbs and a size 16-18, rather than the slim size 8 and 133lbs that I once was. Eating under 1200 may get the weight off fast, I won't disagree on that, but it is NOT sustainable & you WILL gain it back plus MORE. Life catches up on you & nips you in the butt when you're doing something you shouldn't be, just as it did to me, and now being 87lbs heavier I'm paying the price.
I'm now dealing with my issues with food & my relationship with food, and I'm adjusting to calorie counting at the healthy 1580 that MFP suggested to lose 1.5lbs a week, and as of tomorrow am gonna get back into an exercise regime and aim for at least 3 days a week.
Don't follow my mistake, please! This is taking some guts putting this picture up, but maybe this will show you guys who are considering starvation diets that its just not worth it.
