Will weight loss reduce excess hair???

Yeah I felt like my Dr was doing the same. She was a bit sort of "shrug shoulders" about it all. So was the specialist.

What about the groupon deals on laser?

I am keeping my eyes open for one, however living solely on a student bursary so money is quite tight. :(

Yes it will. The less fat you have the less hormones can be stored in that fat.
When I'm big I have much more hair than when I'm slimmer. All other things get better too, spotty skin, thin hair, foggy brain ect.... That's if you get all or any of these, x

Even at my biggest and smallest. I honestly don't think my hair has been any different. Yucky me lol.

The doctor told me the nhs viewed hair removal as cosmetic and wouldnt do it. So they are absolutely no help at all, whatsoever. However I watched something on tv and apparently if you want bigger breasts or tattoo removal, they'll offer that if you're depressed enough about it.

I am now getting electrolysis on my nipple hair and I'm going to start getting laser on my face. I was getting electrolysis on that, but because I've stopped plucking them out, over the course of a year I've noticed I have a ridiculous amount of hair on my throat and I'd need to sit for approx 1hr and 30mins to try and clear the area once, and oh dear god, its too painful to sit for longer than 15mins at a time! lol!

Hey. I am also from Glasgow, and after a LOT of fighting with the doctors to get referrals, last week I have been put on a waiting list to get laser treatment on my face, neck and chin by the nhs up at the Royal.
Iv also found it a nightmare to get doctors to take me seriously, my GP said 'we'll deal with your PCOS when your infertile' one of the first times I tried to get help. But if it is having as dreadful effect on your confidence, self image and life the way it has been for me - DONT give up fighting to get help!!

I went through the nhs route for laser to start. Saw a rather sympathetic nurse who said I was a good candidate for laser, she wrote to my g.p. and told them they would have to apply to my health authority for funding. A year later after a million phone calls to hurry it along I was informed that my local health board no longer fund laser as its cosmetic. I was distraught. The mad thing is they happily prescribe me cream that cost £60 a month on a free repeat prescription (I live in Wales) I paid for my own laser treatment in the end and it was worth every penny!!!!!!!!! If your local health authority pay go for it!!! I am now hair free sort of. I religiously use the cream even though I might not need to. It took me 8 treatments. And I get a once yearly blitz now. I used to shave up to 3 times daily.

Hi

I found when i lossed weight last time, i didn't have to shave under my lower face so much and went soft not so rought like it is at the moment. Also found my boob hair wasn't so bad too.

I find that disgusting coming from a medical professional.

I've been told that a few times myself, and 'We'll look into it further when you want to have children'. I'm 24 and not in a position to consider children at the moment, and I'm terrified I'll miss my chance because by time someone wants to help it will be too late :(

Also, glad to see the initial question about hair here, was about to post it myself. Very helpful, thanks everyone!

Agree completely! My excess hair was pretty bad when I weighed 180. I lost 30lbs and all of my symptoms seemed to vanish. I became pregnant- gained 90lbs and my symptoms are at their worse ever. My previous physician advised me that I would need to lose 10% of my weight to see a noticeable improvement.

Try losing 10% and see if you notice a difference. For now, I take spironolactone and pluck, pluck, pluck. I also use wax strips for larger areas. No Shaving!

hi ladies!!

just wanted to say ive now had 6 lots of laser hair removal on my chin and neck and the improvements are amazing!! before the laser i had horrible thick dark hair and had to shave every day, twice if i was going ut in the evening! and even then i had a rash type thing on my face from the razor.

now i only have to shave a small area on my chin, and dont really even have to do it everyday. my neck i only have to do once or twice a week n the hair is light and barely there now anyway!

the confidence its given me is great, ive joined the gym been going to classes and swimming which i woud never of dreamed of doing before but because i dont have to cover myself in foundation now i can do these things without worrying! and because of the exercise the weight is coming off!

and after being with my bf for 6 years we have decided to get married this summer :)

i know its not a permanent solution and i will always have to go back and keep having the laser but its sooo worth the money! i took out a 0% finance cred card to pay for mine and us ladies with pcos get a 20% discount at sk:n clinics. if u spend over £750 at sk:n clinics u get interest free credit. and they often have laser hair removal deals on aswell. i got 30% off my course as a deal.

anyway enough rambling! just wanted to share my experiences with all u lovely ladies as i wish id done it sooner and not strugged with the excess hair for 5 years thinking there was nothing that could be done about it.

xx

Great stuff. I opted to switch my electrolysis for laser last month because I hadnt managed to get in to see my beautician for weeks and I realised the hair on my face was turning into a beard and I couldnt sit there for an hour and a half and let her clear the area with electrolysis - its too bloody sore!

So I've only had one treatment on my throat/chin so far and I must admit, one side of my throat I constantly shave and stare at throughout the day becuase I think the hair there is so noticable, and it occurred to me last week, I cant really see anything on it anymore.

Now I know I still need another 8 or 9 sessions, but I am so amazed after just the one. I still have some really jaggy ones on the edge of my chin which are really thick, but hopefully they will go away soon beacuse they really annoy me! lol!

So, I've booked in to get my nipple hair done aswell next saturday and hope I have as good results with that. I'll still get electrolysis done on the odd hair or two dotted around my face and on my moles tho. :)

I have PCOS and I am not on metformin. I was on dianette which did not stop it but did lessen it. Now I am far too heavy to be on it but I admit it makes little difference. I have as much facial hair as I did when I was slimmer.
