Hope you are feeling better today honey . Blow outs will happen . dont beat yourself up . Back tracking today and well done for tracking everything yesterday .

1. Cut down the elmlea in my morning coffee by 1tbsp.

Wow. That is laaaame. That's as good as it gets gah!

2. Even though I had a rage fuled & very emotional blow-out with silly food tonight I still tracked every single guilty mouthful AND managed to just use my dailies and all remaining weeklies (will reset weeklies tonight) - so actually within all allowances (even though I feel super guilty)

3. Drove to pick OH up from work (40mins drive) & walked up the big hill in the town there whilst waiting - all by myself for the 1st time since I was ill 4weeks ago - this sounds silly but it's a big deal for me as being that ill made me reliant on OH to be will me all the time so even just the drive alone is a mini victory :)

I do ramble don't I? ;)

Three really good positives - you took a step towards your goal by cutting down the elmlea, despite having a trigger which caused you to have a blow out you actually still managed to control it and that's a BIG change compared to what you would have done before and the last one is AWESOME!!! That's a really good victory and you should be really pleased with it.

Now for your next challenge, Jedi Master, you will come up with the 3 positives and just accept them as positives without having to justify them :D

But seriously they are definite achievements when you are having a really bad day and you should feel proud of yourself for being able to take control without giving in.

I hope you are having a better day today - I dread to think what the dietician was like but I know I had one before who told me I was lying about what I was eating and left me so furious at the lack of help that I can imagine how demoralising it was if they weren't helpful. She was a one off though and I've had others that were really good and really helpful - I rang the hospital and told them they'd better switch me as I refused to see the other one again. Easier said than done but try not to let whatever she said get to you - you are making HUGE steps towards taking control of your life and you should be proud of the fact you've stepped up and asked for help and if she's not willing to help you with that then she is not worth expending your energy on. You know that you are doing the best that you can do right now and that is all that anyone can ask of you - don't let one idiot take that away.

((hugs))

Hope ur ok sugar :) x

Wow - what a great pep talk! Seriously thanks for taking the time to write that - I feel way better just from reading this & the other comments!
My dietitian is...... NUTS!!
I have got to switch - I will chuck her out of the window if I see her again!
I think it's awful that you also saw a naff dietitian! They are meant to help us not hinder!
Well this is how it went down...
She also accused me of not being honest about what I was eating! It made me so angry - don't know how I kept it together - I told her i'm 100% truthful in my food diaries - because I'm weighing everything & I write it down the minute I eat it.
She was having none of it! Said I must be sneaking in more points than I'm addmiting & that she can't help me if I'm not honest with her.......!!!!!!
O.M.G!
I told her I'm losing weight for an operation so why on earth would I lie when this is so important to me?
That was just tge start though - she got annoyed that I am a vegetarian & kept telling me to eat more fish - vegetarians don't eat fish you utter numskull!!
She says I don't eat enough protein, which fair enough is true since I've avoided all beans, eggs, lentils etc for a while cos of my IBS (different story) but I'm trying to re-introduce them now.
She didn't know anything about the WW plan which I found kind of strange... so I explained it to her (lol) but she kept being really condesending about calling our units "points" & kept smirking!
Arrrrrrrrr! I said the whole thing about 1pp being roughly 40cals but not always (she just couldn't cope without a calorie comparison)
So she whacks out her calculator & ends up telling me to drop from 48dailies (like WW have given me) and have just 42 instead.
Now I know some of you are on 29 but dropping 6dailies every day with no warning sounds horrifying to me! Really shocked - then I told her about weeklies points on top & she went a bit stupid.
Sorry this is turning into an essay oops!

So - I freaked right out & have been freaking out ever since (Tuesday afternoon) .
I totally crumbled under the idea of cutting down that quickly & just keep crying thinking I can't cope with a drop like that overnight :(
Also she dismissed any ideas of emotional connection to food!
She said that I just eat snacks late at night because I'm not eating enough protein at dinner to fill me up.
Like **********! If it was simply hunger that lead me to eat then I wouldn't be in this condition would I!!!

So tonight I had a huge tear fulled chat with OH who is 100% behing me on it all & he pointed out that I don't HAVE to do what she says if I think it's going to do my head in & actually send me off track - I need something sustainable.
I know it sounds batty but I was so caught up in my 48hour panic that I hadn't considered just not doing what she said!
I Sound like a right wimp!

Ok far to long now! I am still deciding on my final daily pp number - yesterdayvI did stick to the 42 (though many tears were shed) and so far today I'm up to 36pp & I feel dreadful!

If I can keep my weeklies I may try & drop to 45pp or 42pp .... I don't know... just still very confused!

OK positives phew!

1. Realised I am not a child who has to do what some random clueless person tells me if I know in my heart that it's going to send me down a bad path!

2. Ate chickpeas at lunch for the 1st time in a long time :)

3. Yesterday I actually ate a protein based lunch with no proper carbs! It was a 2 egg (eeeek!) Omlette with a bowl of Broccolli & shockingly kept me fuller for longer! (yes veg are carbs but you know what I mean ;)

(see Mifford - no justfication hehe!)

Wow, breathe Carrie :)
I would ditch that dietician tbh, I can't see her helping you much if she can't even understand vegetarians not eating fish or smirking and being condescending. You want a dietician who will help you and not accuse you of lying about what you eat. I can see this one just making you miserable.
I would ignore her sweet :)

And congrats on the 3 positives :) I keep meaning to try chickpeas!

Thanks huni, I agree I really think she's going to have a negative impact on me so am defo going to switch.

Chick peas are yum - only 1pp for a heaped tbsp :)

hi carrie, i have to say that your diary is the 1st thing ive read on here and in full, (only joined 2 days ago) anyways, well done on your loss so far, your doing great!!! and i agree, the dietitian sounds like a mega negative influence and i would definately switch!! cant believe she had cheek to say you were lying about the diary.

I would have punched her! Does she kno anything at all?! Has she ever struggled with weight loss?! Of course u are honest - cheeky cow suggesting otherwise... And she clearly hasnt got a clue about ww! The top weight loss organisation in this country! I'm so angry!!! U are doing so well! Don't cut ur pps! Ww works for u - so door ur way and show her the door! Hugs xxx

I was steaming mad!!!! I walked out of her office & couldn't stop mentally slapping myself for not giving her a right earfull! That's my problem - always think of what to say 2 late :(
It was a shock to see her as I saw a reaaaaally nice understanding dietitian last month & they replaced her with this numpty!
She seemed to have zero understanding of any emotional connection with food - which is such a huge REAL issue! I just couldn't believe it... I dread to think of her terrorizing others who aren't even on a plan already like me :(
How can she not know WW?! Her whole job is food & diet!!
My OH joked - was I sure she wasn't an escaped patient tee-he ;)
I'm still in a right mental battle about it tbh... I have cut my pp but only managed 1day on 42 with no weeklies, have used a few weeklies on other 2days.
The problem is yes it's going to initially get me a loss in the 1st week as it's such a cut back but it just doesn't feel right to follow WW but tweak it this much - It is making me re-plan a lot of my meals though which is good as U'd fallen into having the same thibg every day.
I know it must sound bonkers to those who are on 29pp a day to moan about dropping to 42pp but if you're used to a lot more then it's still a shock!
OH says I should compromise & drop to 45pp a day... sounds more liveable & a bit more sensible to me.. oh I have dronned on again! Hope you have a good weekend lovely & thanks for your kind words - I'd be lost without the support I get on here!

Aw thanks for your kind words huni & for reading my diary :)
Hope you get to know the board - it's totally essential to keeping me going! Fantastic people :)
I was so mad at being called a liar by this so called health professional - I'm going to go about trying to switch to someone else as she will be no help to me! I'm only seeing her because my Doc wants me to have all the help I can get!
Let me know if you start a diary on here & I'll check it out :)

I feel like I'm lost for words here. There is no way you should be seeing that dietician. What a fool! If it's becoming too hard for you to drop those points all in one go then do as your OH says. Can't remember whether you go to WW meetings or not but if you do I'd mention this to your leader. If you don't there are tons of people on here who will have an opinion on this sort of thing. If you are getting losses on the pp you were on before then I don't see why you should drop pp (unless WW changes your pp after you've lost a bit).
I started on 29pp so never had to drop any points so ignore what I'm saying if it sounds nonsense... but I even struggle eating only 29 as I'm a hungry girl (and an emotional eater).

Long post, sorry (i said I was lost for words but obviously not :p) xxx

Hi petal! I def wouldn't drop pps coz it is set up with drops in place when u are ready! Slow and steady one at a time according to weight.... I can check u are currently on the right pps if it helps? Xx

I much prefer the three positives - very good ones and no justifying :happy096:

Well I could do you a VERY long post about how wrong the dietician is in a number of things that she's told you. What I will say is that firstly her attitude towards WW is appalling - if she doesn't agree with their diet then she should sit down and go over with you as to what should be changed and why rather than telling you to reduce your points based on a calorie counting calculation done in 5 seconds. If she doesn't know how the diet works she can't possibly be qualified to make adjustments to it.

The calorie counting - yes it works for some people but it isn't an across the board solution. As a dietician she should be discussing nutrition and so on with you not calorie counting. Her aim should be to guide you to healthier choices - SLOWLY! - to help you make changes that fit into your life and make goals that are achievable. Oh hang on - that sounds quite a bit like WW right? :D

Some of her nutrition advice is incorrect and amateur as well - as a vegetarian there is no need for you to increase fish in your diet to get various nutrients, proteins and vitamins as you can do the same thing with alternatives that fit with your life choices. Nuts, seeds, various oils etc etc

As for the only way to lose weight being to cut what you are doing and you are lying about what you eat ... please feel free to give me the woman's name and address and I will set up an appointment to educate her about thyroid function let alone anything else the stupid, brainless, uneducated little twat. (I'm having a bad weekend - that's the polite version :D)

Right to get technical - yes protein will help to keep you fuller for longer as it slows down the speed at which your body burns carbs, especially refined carbs, and therefore your body's production of insulin isn't so up and down which is probably why you are struggling to lose weight if you are eating more carbs. Carbs you want to keep to complex carbs if you can - wholegrain, slower burning, low GI foods if possible. I struggle with pulses too but find things like quinoa I can cope with so that might be worth a try. Try and make sure you have some form of protein with every meal to counteract the carb effect and that will start to help.

Obviously I don't know your particular circumstances and I'm not qualified but from the bits you've said it sounds like she would have been much better talking to you about slowly heading towards a lower carb diet and there's no reason why you can't do that while sticking within the WW system. The diet they use is incredibly well researched and created by a team of specialised dieticians who do know what they are doing - its not me thinking WW is the best thing ever so no-one can say anything bad about it but it is a PROPER diet that's been checked and approved and is now recognised by the entire healthcare system. If it was a fad diet I could understand what she was saying but her attitude sucks and isn't helpful - if she's at your surgery I would go back to your doctor and explain what happened. If they don't know what she's telling their patients they can't fix it and they do need to fix it - as you say if someone with major problems with food goes in to see her her reaction could be dangerous.

Seriously - send me her address. I have a friend who struggled for years with anorexia who will happily also educate her about the reality of emotional eating!!! :8855:

Oh and I'd agree with your OH - if you do decide to follow her advice and cut your points then do it slowly. Trying to cut too quick could screw your metabolism up and have a reverse effect and if its becomes too hard for you to stick to then its setting you up to fail so a compromise in between sounds like a sensible solution if you want to go that route.

Ok - that actually was the short version .. honest lol

Just read your whole post Mifford and had to comment and say you're so right! SO right! And helpful too. Your post made me smile, hope it has the same effect on you CG ;) xx

Hiya Carriegirl just been reading through you diary, hope you don't mind, and got to the last few pages and read about your dietician (as she calls herself but doesn't seem to actually be). I've read Miffords answer. You should definately take more heed to her than your dietician.

Also on cutting down your pp, please don't unless your leader tells you too. WW give you the least amount you need to loss weight! I find if I eat under my pp I don't loss very much at all! It maybe the same for you....continue what you are doing and don't listen to that silly woman ugh....Best of luck xxx

Well said ladies!! Hugs CG x
