    Hi all,

decided to purchase an actifry yesterday, looks brilliant, haven't used it yet, will attempt SW chips in it later :)

can an you spray fry light in it or does it need to be the spoon of oil?

    many thanks, Maria.

I use Frylight in mine and occasionally a HEB of olive oil. Both work well - enjoy!

Hi Maria, they are great gadgets, i love mine. You can use frylight for syn free chips, and i would spray the chips before putting them into the fryer however frylight is not the best for crispy chips. You can use normal oil and syn it at 6 syns per tablespoon, which is not bad if your sharing them. Ive found the best oil is the crisp and dry solid block, melted first, then coat the chips before adding them to the fryer. Also to make sure the potatoes are fully dry before using any oil put them in the fryer for two minutes to dry them fully. Hope this helps. p.s. frylight is only free when sprayed, not poured.

I use a HEXB of oil. Totally worth it. Its 1tblsp to cook 1kg so you could divide it and syn it if not using it as a hex. I count 3 syns when split between me and the husband.

  7. I absolutely love my actifry...i bearly use my oven nowdays. But now i always use oil and syn it, as 1years+ of using frylight and pretty much ruined the machine. But using oil makes them taste far better than frylight, they taste like proper chips.

I don't actually have an actifry- don't have cupboard/work top space unfortunately- but the in laws do and use it for chips and roast veg too! Usually carrots & parsnips, not sure if any parboiling is involved but they're always delicious..

just to add a note, maris pipers are best and soak them for 15 mins before drying them, if you have the time, to remove the starch .

Try not to use Frylite or any other sprays like that...it will clog up the Actifry!!
Like a few others here I use oil and just count it a 3 syns if I'm sharing with my husband or HE B if I'm very hungry and eat the lot to myself!

1kg is supposed to serve 4, so Tefal says....anyone else here find that its enough for 2 but never 4!!

Ooh I'm hoping to get one of these for my birthday.... can anyone explain why frylight clogs it up/ ruins it? I love using my hexb for bread or ryvita so would be sad to use it up on oil! Also, does anyone do anything other than chips/ veg in it? Would like an idea of how useful it would be!

Never 4 servings. Not on your life. And we have the family sized one haha. I think the oil is better because it properly coats the chips as they are turned by the paddle. You would have to use a significant volume
of frylight to get the same result I would imagine. Plus it's not all oil in there. Having said that I have seen others who use it successfully. I just prefer to use EVOO. I agree Maris piper although I rinse rather than soak and I always salt them. Asda do a really nice roast potato seasoning that goes really nicely in the Actify. It's with all their seasoning in little black pots. They do a spicy tomato one too that's gorgeous.

I use frylight in mine but open it every five minutes or so and spray my chips! I also use it for doing mushrooms, onions and tomatoes, so yummy and a great time saver too when trying to cook a few different meals at once and you don't have to worry about stirring them

Well I used the actifry with some olive oil which I synned. Definitely need to buy a chipper that I can shove the potato through as they were so uneven and different sizes and shapes, half of them burnt and half of them were undercooked! The less burnt ones tasted quite nice though, so, when my chipper arrives I,will see if it makes a difference!

    Thanks all!

I bought a Breville Halo a few weeks ago and I love it. I use frylight and it works great and it is syn-free that way. I spray some on the pan and paddle and then a few more sprays on the potatoes.

So far I have done wedges, mini roast new potatoes, chips and mushrooms in it. I also did a full meal where I started with potatoes cut up in pieces then added garlic and onion, courgette, peppers, cherry tomatoes and diced lamb steaks. Plus I threw in a few herbs etc - it was really nice and would definitely do it again. I have found everything cooks very evenly and the potatoes go lovely and crispy on the outside.
