So this is day 1 of my diet.. in fact it is evening 1 of my diet seeing as I have spent today finishing off the last few naughty bits of food left in my house after my anniversary meal last night (home made seafood paella and chocolate fudge cake!)..

I weighed myself this morning and I am officially 19 stone and 11lbs (277 lbs in total).. Which is a bit rubbish really and I can't believe how its crept up over the last few years.. I know I spoke to some people the other day on here but for those of you who are strangers, I injured my ankle badly years ago (whilst slim), have had multiple surgeries on it, and am waiting for another surgery which is due to take place in July this year. It has meant I have put on a lot of weight during that time. For the last 3 years I have been banned from doing ANY exercise including swimming by my doctor because of the injury. I was so desperate to lose weight I ignored his advice and went swimming a few times last year, and injured it badly again, hence waiting for another operation! So I really can't do much.

I am a teacher and do spend a lot of the day on my feet and it also means I dont have time to snack during the day. I eat healthy food most of the time, no take aways or biscuits or crisps. Just massive portions which I've become accustomed to and which if I dont have, im starving! So i guess its just about retraining my body a bit.

My lovely boyfriend of 3 years proposed to me and we've suggested but not booked a wedding for next winter (2012). Which means I have about 15 months or so to lose a LOT of weight. About 100lbs or so would be nice! I dont have a a particular target weight, but I would like to be a UK size 14 or 16 when I get married rather than the size 26 I am now.. #

I guess I just want to look on the outside, the way I feel on the inside. And I want to be able to look back on my wedding pictures with pride and to not mind having my picture take on the day etc.. I also really want to start a family after i'm married and know that currently i'm probably a) not going to be able to conceive and b) going to be unable to run around after a baby so that is something else to keep me motivated..

Hi Becky, Soo, you have gotten your diary up and running, hey? Well done!

And now the real hard work begins doesn't it?
Well, only as hard as you want to make it really. Keeping track of your intake and eating a healthy diet will soon become second nature to you and that will be half the battle. The other half is dealing with those blips that come along, usually when you are least expecting them.

Just be determined to let them pass and not treat yourself like a failure and get back to the plan a.s.a.p...
All the best to you and look forward to reading about your progress....:)
G: 10st7lb

just want to wish you luck and success :)

i too have a lot to lose, and breaking it down to mini goals really helps, keeping a diary on here too is a huge help to me!

Just think if you lost a lb a week until winter 2012, you would be approx 6 stone lighter!!!! :D (rough calculations :))

Lovely goals to aim for...go for it, you CAN do it!

I look forward to chatting with you, keep posting!

So I decided at the weekend I wanted to kick start my diet and try something i've never tried before.. so today I did SlimFast for the first time! never thought i'd get into the whole meal replacement thing, but I figure it can't hurt for a little bit just to see what happens..

I had a chocolate milk shake for breakfast and lunch, a packet of the slim fast cheese bites as a snack and I added a banana too.. and now I'm cooking home made moussaka and salad for dinner.. I'm not being too strict about calculating the 600 cals for dinner because I figure if I did i'd be only consuming about 1200 cals a day which is way under what I should be eating for my current weight and height.. so by having a dinner that's more like 750 cals, I'm still within a good calorie limit for today..

Not as hungry as I thought i'd be and will do another day tomorrow and keep you posted..

Can't weigh myself as my scales have run out of battery and need to get some more at the weekend so I will let you know if I've managed to lose anything! I'd better have lost after all thiseffort! Feeling a bit frustrated!

So its now officially a whole week since I started my diet. I have been doing Slim Fast all week, consuming approx 1600 calories a day, which is much less that my previous 2500 calories a day.. I have been logging all my food on www.myfitnesspal.com and been feeling really pleased with myself that every day i've been about 500-700 calories UNDER my target of 2200 calories a day that myfitnesspal.com set for me...

When I started last week i weighed myself and was 19 stone 11 lbs. I tried weighing myself on Thursday to see how I was going and found that the scales kept going up and down and thought the battery was running out. So went out today and bought a new battery. But when I tried using them first of all the scales suggested i'd lost 9lbs in a week and i thought HURRAH!.. Tried showing my boyfriend but when I got on again it said this time I hadnt lost anything! So my scales have DIED and I dont even know whether my starting weight of 19st 11lbs was right in the first places because I dont know when they started dying!

I have just been to argos and bought some new scales, mechanical ones this time rather than digital ones and it has put my weight as 19st 11lbs! So either i havent lost anything at all despite really trying all week (disappointing and upsetting) OR my starting weight was more than that but I dont know it because my old scales were wrong (frustrating..)

So who knows?¬! Bit annoyed as I really thought after a week of sticking to this I would have something to show for it and I have felt really motivated. I am not giving up though. I am going to stick with the Slim Fast thing for another week now I have the new scales and see what happens..

Sorry the news isnt better. I really thought i'd be able to come on here and celebrate today. But I blame the "scales of death"! lol!
G: 10st7lb
Awww becky, how disappointing and frustrating for you  darn scales!!!!

I am sure with the plan you've just used, you will have lost weight, especially in the first week! Look on today as your official starting date with the new scales...and last week as your 'prepare' week to blast those lbs!!! You are now motivated and in the right frame of mind thanks to last week...so go for it from today..and let battle commence  Really impressed with you to keep on track...some would have thrown in the towel, it just confirms how determined you are to do it!

Last word on scales, years ago I had digital scales, and had to keep the battery out until weigh in day, as I kept getting strange results, sometimes from losing STONES to sts!!! very confusing and upsetting, I had to put in the battery on weigh in today to get a correct reading!... so now I have 'doctor's scales'..and trust them completely :D

Have a great day, and enjoy your weight loss, despite not knowing what it officially is this week :) next week will be a different story!!!!

p.s. that 'glimpse' of a 9lb loss is probably correct you know!!!

Goals for the future

Did 42 lengths in the pool today (ignoring the advice about my ankle and just thinking about the calories I wanted to burn so I could have spaghetti and meatballs tonight!) and I spent the time coming up with some goals for the future and reasons to stick to this. So here goes..

1) To get married in a beautiful dress and be able to choose one that really like, and not just "one that fits" or "one that covers my arms"...

2) To get pregnant and be proud of showing off a bump with people congratulating me and giving up their seat on the bus.. If I were to get pregnant now I'm not sure anyone would be able to tell!

3) To be able to let people tag me in photos on Facebook without constantly de tagging photos that make me look terrible.

4) To sit on the teacher's chair in the drama room at school without getting wedged in to it and being worried that if I get up too fast the chair might come with me!

5) To be able to wear shorts and knee length dresses in summer and show off my legs that used to be good!

6) To walk around and feel like people are looking at me not because i'm fat, but because they like the way I look..

7) To be able to shop in normal shops like Topshop and Oasis instead of having to buy everything I own from Evans and SimplyBe.

8) I work in a boys school and I amm so fed up with boys telling me that for their media project they need to have a picture of a beautiful woman on their magazine front cover, and then asking me if I know if Miss Smith or Miss Jones is free, rather than even considering me! I look forward to not being invisible.

9) To go on holiday and be able to fit into a normal seat on the plan without feeling as though I have been wedged in, and without people looking at me with disgust if they have to sit next to me. Likewise sit on train and bus seats without taking up 1 and a half seats and people looking at me like i'm scum..

10) To be able to sit on plastic garden furniture and people's BBQ's without being constantly terrified that the chair will collapse and I will be humiliated..

11) To be able to let my fiance cuddle me in bed without feeling like I have to hold my breath, or "re-arrange" myself to be in a more attractive position even after being together for 3 years!

I think that's a good list for now to keep me going for a bit. I think I might print them off and keep them with me all the time just to keep me motivated..

I had a good day today. Slim Fast all day, swimming to ear more calories, and spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.. at school I even held an after school revision session for my GCSE students, and their head of year ordered us all pizzas at 4pm. I just sat there whilst my Year 11's scoffed the pizza and turned it down when they offered a slice to me.. it smelt SO good!
Hi Becky! It's great to see you've stayed strong!! Keep up the great work and you'll be losing weight in no time =) But don't you think you should listen to your doctor and don't do stuff he/she told you not to do? You don't wanna cause any irreversible damage! =( I'm sure you can find other exercises that you can do without hurting your ankle. I have 30 days shred videos by julian from the biggestloser and in cardio part she showed punching exercises. It's done as you bend your knees a little but you can do it by sitting on a chair. Punching the air makes your heart beat faster, not as much as swimming of course but I don't know, I really wish you did a harmless exercise.
Best of luck! =)

Well done Becky, good to see you are on track. You can do it, you just have to do it one day at a time. This time last year I didnt think I could ever be slim, but here I am 7 stone lighter and feeling fab. I got through it one day at a time and you can too. It may seem like a slog day to day but the time really will fly.

Weigh in today and I lost 4lbs this week! So feeling a bit more positive. Counting the calories really seems to help, and i feel motivated still. The only thing that is so daunting is how much I've still got to lose! It seems like such a long journey ahead!

I took my mum out for lunch for Mother's day and I can't say I even thought about the diet during the first two courses! I had fried calamari to start, and then lobster pasta in a tomato and garlic sauce for mains.. It was GORGEOUS! My only concession to the diet today was having a Slim Fast shake for breakfast, and NOT having a pudding in the restaurant which was tempting but I feel good that I didnt! Am feeling good that if I can keep up this diet until I get married I will be able to look back on my wedding photos with pride. It is scary though. The year seems to be going so fast, and I have so much to lose. I can't bear the thought of dress shopping (which I dont have to do for at least 6 months but hey I am still thinking about it..).. I have had a look at loads of dresses online and am using them as inspiration to stick at this diet.. Here are just a couple that i'm loving at the moment..

Hi Beckybunny

I like the first dress best - it's softer and really feminine 'tho I guess you will change your mind a hundred times between now and the big day! You're doing really well - keep looking at the pics and also think about your new life afterwards, your honeymoon etc.

Don't look at the total amount you have to lose - just do it day by day, time will fly and you're gonna look amazing. :)
