Bored! - please help!

Well, if anyone mentions Jezza Kyle I will go back to work!

Am laid up for a while with torn calf muscles and ankle & knee ligament damage. Nothing TOO painful, but am grounded, need to rest and not allowed to drive.

Not the best of patients anyway, but am now literally stuck in with foot up.

Internet and DVD's are all i can come up with.

Also, I still have to eat but cannot exercise properly. How on earth do I avoid a huge gain? - what have other people done in similar situations?

weight los with SW isn't dependant on excercise so if you stick to the plan food wise, you won't have a problem.

Have you got any old SW mags you can go through to keep you focused.

Im laid up too but only cause im full of cold so sat watching movies.

Hope you feel better soon x

Sorry to hear you're not well and hope it doesnt take too long before you are able to get around again. I read your diary a few days ago and found it really inspiring,I wonder if you have read it in its entirety for a while ?and if not perhaps it would remind you of where you are now and where it all started. Have you access to photos ? could you make a montage type thing that someone would be happy to receive as a christmas gift ? Yup, I was the kid who watched Blue Peter religiously as a child. Recipe building might give you some fresh ideas and keep your interest firmly focussed on plan. Look into new places to visit or research next years holiday destination. Whatever you do I hope you are fighting fit very soon.

We'll agree to disagree with the exercise bit, or at least I find it is absolutely essential/imperative to maintaining!

Thanks for the kind wishes and stuff. It is the feeling useless that bothers me. Over the last 18 month I have become so active, it feels so wrong sitting doing nothing. It feels wrong being off work work, and lazy being indoors.

I'm even contemplating doing an online shop!

That will probably take up a full day as I constantly change my mind lol.

I'd read, then get bored, play on the internet, then get bored, knit a row or two and then go back to reading :) But that might not work for you.

Any Christmas cards or letters you need to write but have been putting off?

You have my sympathy - I was stuck to the sofa for several weeks earlier this year with a badly sprained ankle. I set myself up with the remotes, loads of magazines and books and my laptop and I knitted 7 pairs of fair isle mittens! I know you are a bloke, but lots of men knit! Perhaps time to start a new hobby ;) It has the double advantage that it keeps your fingers busy, and out of the snacks, plus you get an end result! Unusually designed and shaped scarves are all the rage!

Hope you feel better soon. Can you relax and read some books? Learn to knit a scarf? ;) research new recipes for the Xmas period or new year. Sit and pilfer through old paperwork and burn rubbish. Get every drawer in the house one at a time on a coffee table next to you and clear out all the crap :) find something online to learn that you don't know. Being unproductive drives me insane ;)

There's lots of exercise you can do without using your legs, try dumbbell exercises, building those muscles will help keep muscle atrophy at bay at least in your upper body, your legs will strengthen quite quickly when you're on your toes again. You can also keep the other leg moving with a small ball on the floor and use your foot to move it about, if you can get one of those road map rugs for kids you could 'drive' your ball! This should engage the abdominals.

Food wise perhaps do Success Express, as you'll need less cals?

Hope you heal quickly

I am discovering I;m a rubbish patient and a very low boredome threshold (or should that be high? - anyway I get bored easily lol).

The paperwork, draw tidying, and general locating of things is a great idea. I'm finding all sorts of stuff that needed tending too. - Even found a bak account and statement from a maturing savings account which I'd forgotten about (will pay for next years holidays too!!)

I've also re-arranged all my books, several hundred DVD's and zillions of tapes, cd's and games etc.

I've also found in the region of 24 varius plug-ins/adaptors/chargers for gadgets! - good grief I know I love a gadget (boys and their toys) but I have now labellled them all. Most of these never see the light of day so will be moving on if for no other reason than to make room.

I think I may need a few weeks to do all of this! - funny how things get stuffed into a drawer or cupboard for later and forgotten about.

Stick to plan and up up up the superfree foods to helpwith damage limitation!
Lots of Minimins! reading, online games etc to help with the boredom and Get Well Soon!
On the food front, I've decided to try and avoid the heavier stuff and stick with salads, and vegetable soups (home made) I will have to do a shop - probably online as the thoughts of hobbling around Asda doesn't appeal.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I now have several things to flit to and from:)

Ahem, is my commission in the post? Lol ;) oooooo I do love a good organise. Glad to have been of help x

I completely know how you feel, i have major knee problems and am due to have my 6th surgery on it at the end of january. I really feel for you being laid up and hope you get back to full strength soon.
As for ideas of what to do, i usually plough through my DVD collection or play on the Wii (even games where you sit down and only use your arms e.g. Pirates of the Carribean can cause you to get a bit of a dab on hence raise your heart rate, hence burn calories).
As for food, the only tip i can come up with (and apoligies if it has already been mentioned), is that if you are craving chocolate, i find that eating silverskin pickled onions really takes away the craving. Also heard somewhere that vinegar (as with chillies) helps burn calories. Don't know how true that is though!!
Sending you healing vibes :vibes:

Well, after seeing specialists, a few physio visits, and a lot of sitting around off plan getting fat and not being able to exercise, I've decided to go back to work on Tuesday 3rd.

Yes, I'm so bored I want to work!!!

The quicker I get back to normal the better. Doing nothing is not what it is cracked up to be and whilst I can stay off (on full pay) honestly I'd go up the wall.

Plaing games, reading, writing, tidying, cooking, planning, online shopping etc. all good fun. But the best fun I had over the past ywo weeks was geting out and going to watch the footy - even hobbling along to my seat. I felt alive! - while everyone else was complaining about the cold, I loved being outdoors!

Maximus.....I reckon you've been staying in the nice warm place, where the walls are spongey and the dinner jackets do up at the back!
