Boredom...

I eat when I'm bored!:(

I always manage perfectly throughout the day then 8pm hits and I just want to eat biscuits/choc/ice cream/takeaways! Old habits die hard!! I think my brain must relate boredom and tv to food!

So my plan is to try and go to the gym or other activities in the evening which diverts my attention from food!!

I wish I was one of those people that just saw food as fuel but I've always loved food. My mum has always cooked from scratch and we have never had a microwave so I've always hated ready meals and the like. My problem had always been big portions, going out for meals (my parents reward for pretty much anything was always a meal out especially as my dad has always worked abroad or offshore so it's always been a way of socialising!), and generally loving the taste of food!

I've been constantly unhappy with my weight since I was around 13, I'm now 20. The ridiculous thing is that I thought I was horribly big at that age and now I would love to be that weight of 3stone lighter! I've been 5ft 10 since I was 11 with a fairly large bone structure so I don't think I could ever physically be smaller than a size 12 due to my bones! I'd just like to be slim and NOT WOBBLY!! I've always been the 'fat' one and added to my height I've always stuck out!!

My mission is to stick out for the right reasons in the future!!

I don't really think any of that info I just wrote really flows well together haha just a jumble of thoughts! I'm so motivated to lose this excess weight! I'm 16st 8 right now and I would love to reach 12 one day! I think for my height and build this is realistic!:)

Issues to address:

Portion control
Snacking!!!
Gym attendance
Relationship with food

Hope everyone is well!! Xxxx

Hi Jlt, Don't think you are any different from most of us on here!

Good idea about going to the gym and when you are at home and feeling like you may be attacked by the nibbles just logon here and keep your mind active by helping and encouraging as many minis as poss, that's what I do and it has worked great for me so far!!

As far as the socialising bit is concerned - that is a typical and very necessary part of life and well set in history - the sharing of food and conversation together.

Good that you have decided to get your weight under control and wish you all the best in your journey!!...:)

I said exactly the same thing as you on here yesterday!
It's the evenings, sat in front of the telly that get me.

I have 2 small kids so don't really have the energy for the gym and my husband is away alot so couldn't justify a gym membership as obv I have to be home if hubs isn't but I have managed to get hold of a free 2 week pass to the local posh gym.
I'm going to try and go when I can over the next 2 weeks- I'm hoping I might feel less tired
Will have to decide what I'm going to do long term.

Good luck on your journey....sounds like you will get there in no time!

Oh, and as for eating out, my favourite place to go is the Harvester! It's really cheap and you can do it comPletely on plan! We go there all the time!

Hello :)

I totally understand where your coming from, i think it is boredom. Last night for instance I was just watching master chef and all of a sudden my hand was in the chocolates! Yet I was ready for bed! I find it helps me having my dinner and then chilling for a hour or so and then go to the gym, then some home shower and straight to bed, it may sound boring but it does help.

Also, I find if I don't lay on my bed watching tv and watch it in the lounge then I don't snack either!

Like you say Hun bad habits do die hard, but you have to be persistent.

I think with regards to portion sizes, if you like salad or veggies, pile them on you plate along with whatever you have, then you'll eat them and get fuller faster.

I always thought I had a broad frame ( mainly down to my dad saying I had the broadest shoulders he had ever seen on a women!!! ) however, I just went and bought a pair of size 8 trousers..... So I think it is deceiving.

It's just maybe motivation you need at the moment, if you need any help give me a shout :) I'm heading towards for my 3st shiny now and it feels great.

Good luck!

Hi jlt,
looks like you've done some of the hard work already in identifying your issues to tackle...

I think the tv slump - reaches hand out to stick biscuit/crisps/ whatever into mouth is a familiar scenario for most of us ;) so there are bound to be some others along with great ideas

all the best

Thanks for the words of encouragement!! I've always known what I'm doing wrong I just have never had the willpower! I hope the weight comes off fairly easily!

The comment about going out for tea referred to when I was younger! Mum and dad have always liked restaurants and rewarded me and my brother with food. I guess it's where the unhealthy relationship came from! Once I passed my driving test I could go get food to reward myself, cheer myself up, or cure boredom any time of day or night.. Mcds, bk, Nandos, chips and cheese etcetc!! It's only since o turned 18 the weight really piled on! I've never been thin but I went from 12 & 1/2 to 17 pretty quickly over 2 years!

I've been cooking sw friendly recipes and enjoying them so far :D just have to keep away from the snacks and fast food!! And persuade the boyfriend to stop waving mcds infront of me :( haha!!

I hope your plan to go the the gym works out for you :) I'm hoping it helps me to feel less tired too!! I've got an awful sleeping pattern at the moment :( Good luck to youu!! And I don't think we have a harvesters in Aberdeen (or else I'm just totally unaware of it haha...I'm sure tabletable & beefeaters is fairly similar!! In all honesty sw isn't the issue for me eating out anymore as I have no problem ordering meat and veg/salad and passing the carbs! My issue is that I have fairly severe IBS and its hard to find places that don't add garlic/spices/cook in fat! BUT... it's helping me and the boyfriend save for our house so its kind of a good thing really!!!

Hey!! It's so good to hear from someone with such a similar story! It's awful I don't even realise what I've eaten until it's all inside me! The family don't help with constantly offering me food even when they're the first to comment if I've put weight on  Wowwww!! Thats such a good achievement! I am going to put pictures up soon so youll be able to see if I am a similar frame to you?! Honestly I would be OVER THE MOON being a size 12! I've never wanted to be skinny just less wobbly and not HUGE! Thanks for your wisdom.. brilliant help :D

Hey! Sorry to hijack a thread but I just saw your stats and saw we are a similar height and my final, final goal is 9 stone too!
I feel like I'm struggling, even still at 10 stone 10 to get the weight off and I remember it being the same last time I got to goal (before getting pregnant again). I ended up taking target at 9 3 as I just couldn't lose a gram more!
Do you have any words of wisdom for me?

Hello Lisa :) well the first time I did SW about 2 years ago I couldn't get below 10st 12 and ended up putting it all plus more on. I think this time the plan has just worked, maybe because the first time I did green days constantly and now I do red days and occasionally I'll squeeze an EE, I've also learnt to cut my portion sizes, I know it's not easy for some people to do that but I find I don't get hungry until about 12 and then I'll have something light like ryvitas or weetabix. Weighed in on Tuesday at 9st 9.5 and I think the for me seeing the number at weigh in is enough to keep me going :) also I keep my big jeans which I'm sure are a 16 and when I feel like I'm struggling I just pull them up and realise how far I've come.

I actually cut my syns down quite a lot to about 3-5 a day and that helped because I like a couple of cheeky vodkas at the weekend :)

I've failed more than once and it's so disheartening.

At the beginning of december I was 10st 10 and it has been a struggle especially to stay under the 10 Mark.

What days do you normally do? It might help mixing it up and drinking lots of water! I never took my HEXA and then began having cups of teas with splashes of milk and that helped a lot! Had a few 2.5lb losses over the last few weeks.

Lots of peppers and onions have helped too!

My C made me put down an interim target too, so I started at trying to get my half stone, then my one stone, then my club 10, then one and a half stone, then my 2 stone, then interim target one was 10 stone and then 2.5 stone which is where I have just gone past, now my next little target is my 3 stone which is 5lb away, then my next interim of 9st 3 and then call target at 9stone :) little targets like that help so much I find!

Sorry for rambling, hope it makes sense. Take a look at my food diary :)

Great :) put up some pics hun, and ill take a look. I'm trying to find myself a "fat" picture, but I think I tended to delete them so nobody could see them haha. My family are exactly the same, any excuse for a good knees up or a meal out and they jump at the chance! Dreading march because we have 2 big birthdays and it's going to drag out over the whole month I fear! Xx

I'm the tall one with the brown hair incase theres any confusion!! Also the fattest in every photo :(

This is in June 2007 (Age 17) at my prom. Lowest weight I've ever been since I was about 10! This was basically due to a massive heartbreak and hardly eating/loosly following sw. I aim for this again but not as drastically haha! I was still a size 14 here but I think I carry it quite well (don't mean to sound up myself!) I would ideally love to be smaller as I wasn't happy at this size either and i had untoned arms etc but it's something to aim for :)

This is january 2008. I reckon I had put on about 1/2 a stone here but I still like the way I look! I'm aiming for this also. I still have this dress which is also a size 14! I was 17 & 1/2 here!

This was september 2009! As you can see I've gained a lot of the weight back! Age 19 and 1/2

December 2009! The heaviest I was! Combination of medication/the pill and huge appetite! I reckon I was about 18 stone here and wearing a size 18 dress which now fits alot better! Still Age 19

This was summer 2010! A bit smaller than the last photo but not by much.. Age 20!

New year 2010 :) Me and the boyfriend! I was 17st 5 here!

I am now 16 st 9 although my face doesn't look much different and I have no newer photos!

I really want to be slimmer by may which is my 21st and start proper adulthood rid of the weight that has literally weighed my confidence down all my teenage years!!

Haha I'm the same.. years 2007/08 theres heaps of photos of me and as I regained the weight the photos got less and less and less..!! On fb my 2007/2008 photo folders have like 100s in them 2010 has 20.. how bad :| haha

Wow I think you look great in that photo so you must be looking even more so now! I would love to be your size I just have to persevere!! I'm away to the gym soon but it's SOOO cold out :( Living in NE Scotland does not lend itself to excersizing or eating healthily it just makes me want to fill up on stodge! I actually lost weight when I was in Florida in October cause my appetite was smaller due to the heat haha!!

xxxxx

Keep up the good work hun :) it will all pay off, I love going to the gym, think that filling up on water and the thought that you have just done a fab workout defo helps with the mental side of it. I can imagine the cold weather isn't a great help but keep at it :)

Found this pic, which was when i was a size 14/16 but about 10 pounds lighter to when i started SW.....it carried on down hill from here!!

x

I am exactly the same and last night proved that it is boredom eating! I had my tea at normal time (6pm) and I went out for drinks with my friends, didn't get back til half 10 and did not feel hungry or wanted to eat. Usually I would have eaten at 8pm.
I tend to snack in the evenings but it is always within syns or it's free foods but I would like to cut down. I'm hoping to start an evening class next week and then when the nights are lighter I can go out for an evening walk/run. X

I'm the exact same, if I'm busy I don't need to snack! I'm going to try and sign up to different gym classes to get me out of the house!

I just like damn food too much :(

Good luck hun :) x

Ooh I love a good nosey at peoples piccies!
I now keep one of my big piccies up on the fridge next to one of my thin ones.
I'm not having any more children so no reason to ever be big again!

When I lost the weight last time (5 stone 4 in 11 months) I did it on red. Only red. EE wasn't around then and I knew I wouldn't lose on green
The thing is, I now have 2 kids to feed as well as hubs so EE is more family friendly. I'm def trying to still limit the carb intake though!
I lost 2 stone in the summer on one of those shake only diets. I've kept all of it off but I keep threatening myself that if I don't make this work I'll have to go back to the shakes. I REALLY don't want to so I need to try harder!

Shakes aren't really a way of life are they :-( I did slim fast and hated every moment! SW is a way of life and EE makes it all so much easier for family life doesn't it. Nobody even needs to know that it's healthy eating because it is so simple and a great plan!
