CharleyBarley - my new 2014 diary with pics

Hey Charley. You are doing great. Well done on 2 lbs loss. I do not like Liver - ahhh smell and texture. Hoping good weather keeps for the weekend.

Thanks Rosa, yeah liver is a contentious thing, I don't like the smell of it cooking but I do like it, and it is really cheap and so so good for you.

I am hoping the weather is good too. We are away for the weekend, really looking forward to it too. Anything planned this Easter Rosa?

Ok I have just had a right pain in the bum during lunch - I work in the heart of the city, right outside Liverpool Street, there are food places a-plenty, we have sushi, italian, burrito, chinese, M&S, Tesco, McDonalds, KFC, Burger King to name but a few. Do you think I could find a place that sold the humble b!oody jacket potato??????

We have a really good canteen at work and so, armed with my LF cheese and leftover coleslaw I hot footed down there for one of their delicious oven baked spuds, that only cost £1.... they were all manky! Really brown and slushy inside, slightly devastated I huffed down to the sandwich shop to find that they don't sell them, then I proceeded to walk the length and breadth (well I circled around for a little while, 10 mins to be honest) and went into everywhere I could think of, I then found one in Pontis in the Station, I asked for a plain spud please? He looked at me in shock and said "really, plain?" I said yes please, so he charged me £3.51 (1p? what the feck?!) for a plain jacket and I came back and opened it up and it was covered in butter! He obviously thought I was joking about the plain jacket request.... So I dredged off as much butter as I could and ate it, it was lovely and the cheese and coleslaw was a winning combo....

It only occurred to me after eating this that I could have just gone to Tesco or M&S and got a fresh potato and microwaved it myself in the time it took me to find the £3.51 fecker!!!!

So I have added a reluctant 4 syns to my Spud which now doesn't give me much to play with for my snacks.

Food sounds yummy, I'm due to do a meat shop at the market soon & feel the need to buy chicken livers!!!

Has it been mentioned before only the Linda Mc rosemary & onion sausages are free the others are syned.

Thanks Michelle, I know that its only the Rosemary and Red Onion ones that are free, and these are the only LMC sausages I will eat - I can just never be a!sed to typed the whole thing out! LMc Saus is as far as I go, but they are defo the free ones.... I do find them hard to buy sometimes, they never have them in my Tescos, and my Sainsburys run out quite quickly too, whenever I see them I buy a vat of them!

Chicken Livers are so cheap in the freezer section of Tescos, only 50p or something like that.

Jacket spuds are an expensive comodity these days! The place i go is a coffee shop and it costs me £4.80 for a jacket with cheese. Its ludicrous!!! Mind you if you saw the house prices in this town, the JP price accurately reflects it. I've deffo made JP's a rare treat as i can't afford them!

G's mum isn't too bad but his stepdad deep fries everything (mushrooms, bacon, sausages, fish, bread - everything), I honestly don't know how he's survived this long? Like thursday we are going round and he's doing everyone (except me) deep fried fish and chips and probably pineapple fritters. Thats fine if you want to die young but i don't! I've got to eat the chips but he's cooking for about 10 people a fully deep fried meal? Also we'll all STINK when we leave of mangy old deep fat fryers.

We bought them an actifry for Christmas and i think they've used it about 5 times. When we got there the other day and she'd done a load of sausages in the actifry and said she got 1/4 of a pint of fat out of them so it was ok for me to eat now. Its just so hard cos she was really offended i didn't have any. I don't like being rude and declining but she knows i'm trying to be on SW and making me feel guilty isn't the answer? She's done SW loads of times but its like she forgets everything? She told me she couldn't do SW anymore cos it was making her blood sugar too high?

If its not deep fried goods, its suet. Gross. Is there any need?! He's a very old fashioned cook but its all so fatty, you can feel it coating your ribs on the way down. I rememeber once he asked me if i liked kidney and i said no, then he made a steak and kidney pudding for dinner and told me he hadn't put kidney in it which he had. Just really, why? Grrrrrr. See he's on my list of people i can't trust to cook for me because of that. Theres a lot of people on that list lol! xx

Wow, it sounds like a nightmare! Is his Stepdad and Mum overweight themselves? Still, it doesn't matter if they are, its what they are doing to their organs and BP and Cholesterol. As a child, my mum was always on a diet and we had a deep fat fryer which we used for chips (before oven chips were decent) and that was a rare treat, but we got rid of that in the 80s - I remember it well, she left a hob on and put the fryer on top of the hob and it melted its bottom, thankfully someone noticed it otherwise we would have been in our local paper too!!! it was never replaced because mum was so cautious of fatty foods even then.

When we went round Mick's brothers a little while a go, his wife cooked us lunch and she cooked the sausages in the fryer! I had no idea you could cook that sort of thing in a fryer! So bad, and she uses it a hell of a lot too. She cooks whole chickens in this thing - so bad, think of those poor little children's hearts.

It must be hard for you to say no, without offending her, but she should understand if she has done SW before, high blood sugar on SW?? She needs to check her BP and Cholesterol!

As I said, my mum always dieted, and she is either doing WW or SW these days but maintains that she "can't get her head around Extra Easy"! I have explained it to her a million times but she says the same everytime. She and Dad eat well and are active, but they do eat a lot of prepacked stuff from M&S, and then she wonders why she isn't losing!!! She won't be told though!

OMG all this deep fat fryer talk is making me barfy!!!! I effing hate the things!

My mum & dad don't have one, never have had. Me either. I won't even have one in my house.

Mil loves it and uses hers religiously. I hate the way the whole house smells of fat and frying, and it sticks to everything.

If she isn't deep fat frying, everything is shallow fried in a block of lard. BLEEEEUUUUUURRRGGGGHHHH!

Even hubs now notices how bad and grease coated her food is!! (Brainwashed!!).

Charley - big well done on sourcing the jacket potato! Would have been so easy for you to have eaten something bad, but proud of you for not girl!! xxx

Poor Gaz said to me after he'd eaten the saussies. They were really nice, they had a nice sticky coating. He was happy until I said it was congealed fat lol! X

That is bad of Micks sister :-( whole chickens!?!!

Ha re: melted Fryer. I remember mum having a chip pan but think that went in the 80's? Oven chips still suck. Actifry chips not too bad?

His mum is diabetic but doesn't control her diabetes and as such had a quadruple heart by pass 2 years ago and sees it as a new start (but they just took the veins from her legs, which were also furred).

His step dad had a heart attack 15 years ago and is currently having mini strokes and just about to have a pace maker fitter.

You do the maths!! Xx

Wow, it just goes to show doesn't it? I mean don't get me wrong you can still have a catalogue of illnesses and diseases and be as healthy as anything, but really?? Wouldn't you just look at your diet and assess what needs to be done?

My sister's boyfriends mum is arthritic, diabetic and wheel chair bound most of the time, yet she will stuff cakes into her mouth and simulatenously be stabbing herself in the leg with insulin?! My sister said that she has given up trying to live healthy, she is just enjoying what she can when she can! No way to live though is it?

Sounds like them!

His stepdad said to me he's only eating small meals cos he can't lose weight... Then he ate 4 buttered (real butter) hot cross buns one after the other lol.

I mean, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones and all that but they won't listen to any drs/ specialists. They got a blue disabled badge the other day so that's another reason to move less! X

Ps I mean I shouldn't moan about them as I am a face-filler

I know what you mean though, I would hate to knowingly shorten my life so recklessly.... its funny, but because I know the right foods to eat, it doesn't mean to say that others do... I mean I do eat bad quite a bit, but its not all the time and I am trying to lose this weight to prolong my life, not just to look better and be able to wear nicer things. I don't want to have to have a disability sticker or a walking stick or wheeze myself out of a chair.

When (IF more like) I get to the weight I am happy with, I will do 80% / 20% rule.

And dinner - this was absolutely delicious!!!

This afternoon I pigged out on biscuits and went way over syns - oh feck!! I just couldn't stop, those cinnamon crispy biscuits are so moreish, they are really thin and snappy!!! Why can't I just have one or two??

Oh well tomorrow I will be a better person!

Xx

Xx
I had the same issue with those Cinnamon biscuits a while ago. Once I finished the pack, that was it. I did not buy them again.

Yeah thanks ladies, I guess I just went over my syns for the day and I was annoyed with myself for not having the control to stop at two biscuits. It's matter of restraint I think.

My grazing period is between 2 - 4pm at work. I will buy myself some grapes today.....oh but those biscuits do dunk well in that Indian tea I bought!!!!

I will have a low syn day, today to make up for it.

And Rosa, I am going to follow your lead, finish them (not all today I hasten to add!) and not buy them again!

Xx
