I think you can have both. We've always been able to have the veggies and the protein is now recommended if having 3 packs a day but I haven't included it to be honest as I'm quite used to following the plan with 3 packs and veggies. I'm not sure how many calories the protein and veggies equates to but I'd probably make sure it didn't come to more than one of the packs personally.

I am only using the protein and veg option occasionally - I find it easier and less distracting to stick to the packs.....the guys on S&S website are really helpful if you call with the way you want to design the diet around your life.
