Claire's diary of food and thoughts

Aww Wrinkly, you're quite welcome hun! :hug99: That's what we're all here for, to help each other through the tough times and to encourage through the good! Hope you're feeling a bit better from the walk out?

Have had a good gym sesh :whip: Did my usual 5km on the treadmill and thankfully managed to knock another 12secs off my time (it's still a very slow time!).. Had to pretty much sprint the last bit though to make sure i finished on time LOL.. Did some weights too :character00116: Then sat in the jacuzzi for about 25mins which seemed to help wobble the fat about a bit and ease off the muscles! Haha. I had to have a giggle to myself as i felt all the flab wiggling about.. God, i'm certainly no lady! :sign0151: Then a hairy man got in next to me (complete with thick hairy back) so i got out and laid in the sauna for about 10mins, had a shower n then sat in the steam room for about 2mins. It was well hot and felt like it was burning my throat as i breathed in! Hoping it did the tight chest from hayfever some good though..

Then had a strawberry crisp atkins bar afterwards as was peckish - 3.1g

Up to 2l of water so far, had a brew at mum's after gym too with SS milk  - 1g

Just having a coke zero (no citric acid) whilst i wait for Tesco's to turn up so's i have some food to eat for tea!

B. Beef n mushroom omlette 2
S. Strawberry crisp bar 3.1
S. Cuppa tea with milk 1
T. Same sausages as yesterday, 3 of 3.9
3 mushrooms made into sauce with 2tbsp soft cheese n water 2
4 spears asparagus 2
1.5cups aubergine diced n sauteed in butter 3.6

Totalling 17.6

You mention the tight chest... Does this sound similar??? I am fine for most of the day and then I start feeling like my nose is getting blocked and then I feel tight chested. This sensation can last for a good few hours. The docs reckon it's a mixture of panic and allergic rhinitis. I've had tests done and I'm not allergic to anything which they test on, which is usually the most common stuff like pollen, grass etc.

Hey Penny.. when i was in trade training for the RAF we had to go out hill running and stuff and i suffered big time then with my chest. They gave me inhalers to try which seemed to help. I've had hayfever for yrs now. After that year i didn't get it on my chest again but this year i've really noticed it - even in an airconned gym! It felt like what i imagine a smokers cough would feel like, not that i've ever smoked in my life before! Hacking up phelm and a really tight feeling. Well, i mentioned it to my doc when i went last week and he put me on an inhaler. It's a brown one with steroids and also the same ingredient that's in the beconase nasal spray for hayfever. My chest has been much better at the gym since being on it (have to have it twice a day). I think i just suffered a bit today as the pollen count is v.high where i am atm. I'm not allergic to grass pollen either, it's the tree pollen that affects me in march time with the eyes, nose n face area. Then this chest thing has come on this month. I suffer with the rapeseed fields and also the elderflower bushes along the roadsides!

Got a reeeeeaaalllly big craving for something sweet atm! :17729: I'm going to do the washing up and then have a face pack which came with me tesco's order to try take my mind off the craving.. :sigh: If the craving's still there in an hr or so i'll probably have a choc chip atkins bar which are lush but expensive so conscious about how many i'm having.. humph.

Funny thing is though that when I went to my doc feeling at my worst he did a test on the old tube thingamyjig to test my lung capacity and he said I had better than the average lung capacity. Hmmm this afternoon I felt like I was dying but that could be just panic. I have no phlem but I do sound nasally.

No probs btw, the rep comment was honest and true x

Aww thanks Penny! Have you tried the beconase nasal spray? You can get it from boots, their own brand is just as good and the same ingredients as the brand names but half the price. It's well worth the money in my opinion and works wonders for a stuffy nose from hayfever. Sorts the problem out at the heart of it rather than taking the tablets which don't do an awful lot for your nose if you ask me. May be worth a try if you've not done so already..

The doc gave me some new tablets to try too - Fexofenadine Hydrochloride which seem to be doing something, i think!

I used the flixonase for a while and then it stopped working. I feel like a pressure cooker when I am at my worst but within 10 mins of using that stuff I feel better. Though the specialist told me that it doesn't work like that so I stopped taking it. The doc says that the lining of my nose is often red so, God knows!

Try the beconase stuff and see how you get on.. flixonase is a decongestant if i remember correctly, i've used loads of it in the past. Whereas the beconase will work on the cause of the problem if an allergy so may prevent it in the first place..

Ok, i have a question if i may?!

I've bought some pots of sandwich fillers from tesco's to have with my usual salad i take to work as a bit of a change from the usual ham/tuna/chicken n mayo. I picked the ones which are lower in carbs, i've got, chicken n bacon with mayo, prawn mayo, egg n bacon with mayo and chicken tikka. I've looked on the back of the pack and got the carbs per 100g to work out how much the 250g pots have in them. I've written the total amount on the lids so when i grab them to make my dinners for work it's already done ish, bit of an organised minute for me! Well i was thinking, surely the carb count on the pot includes the chicken/bacon/egg type things that aren't normally counted in the daily carb count?! So how on earth can i work out the real carbs i need to count in them to be accurate?! Or can't i? Hmm..

Just having a coffee with a splenda tablet and a little single cream. The sweet craving has all but gone now so i'm going to put me face pack on and enjoy the coffee feeling pleased with myself for not giving in.

Hi Girls

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread but I would just like to know how you generally work out your daily carb content?
I'm new to all this and I know the rough outline of the Atkins diet but I'm not sure how to make sure I'm following it to the T!
Do you use the Atkins site ...I noticed today that they have a facility to count the carbs you've had daily or do you have another way of counting?

Hi Caroline, i'm not the best at atkins yet, hence why i created my diary thread, to get to grips with carb counts etc.

I go by the atkins book and the website most the time for the vegs etc. If it's processed stuff like sausages, sauces etc i read the back of the pack and work out how much i've used, equating that into my daily quota of 20g's carbs.

The stickies at the top of the forum are a good source of info too if you don't have the book.

Hmm.. well here goes another random rambling in my diary.. i'm sat here with my face pack on - mango and raspberry flavour in case anyone's interested - and after i'd put it on i read the ingredients on the back (guess i'm in the habit of doing this now!). And guess what, to my suprise it's got the nightmarish CITRIC ACID in it!!

Now i'm sat here, with my face getting slowly more and more tight and unmovable wondering if it can be absorbed into my face and bother me somehow?!?! I know! Worrier that i am.. :argh:

God my diary is full of some random junk that falls outta my head at times.. thought it'd be funny to share though.. haha.. :D

Morning Wrinkly, thanks for the link love.. will have a gleg at it in a mo. Could you be retaining water hun? You could try upping your water to shift it or some aquaban tablets? I know how disheartening it can be when you're sticking to something and it doesn't feel like it's working. But if you stick with it it has no choice but to go. Fingers crossed you'll have a whoosh sometime soon :fingerscrossed:

Well i've finally managed to have a sleep in :4635: and feel better for a good sleep but unfortunately i've come down with my brothers girlfriends lurgy. He had a cold for a couple of days and then she came down with a sore throat which is what i've got today, along with a headache.. Going to have some paracetamol and hope that they work but could do without feeling grotty as i'm back in work at 1600hrs today

Just having a cuppa coffee, made with single cream and a sweetner :coffee: Considering what to do for dinner too. I got a piece of 'riverside cobbler' fish from tesco's last night. It's a white fish fillet of the budget variety, was only £2 for two fillets. Going to have a cooked dinner and then make up my salad to take to work. If i have the energy i may consider making some oopsies with onion granules and herbs to take with my salad.

Hope everyone's well today and having a good day :grouphugg:

Claire, just keep on typing your diary, it's very entertaining! I'm sitting here imagining your face covered in pink (?) goo..

To put it politely I have taken something that may shift a 'little' weight..

Er, what are oopsies?

Wrinkly, it was pink goo!!! :giggle: Then my face set and it went white and had to crack it off. Kept me entertained for a few mins though and took my mind off snacking which was the aim ;)

Hope the tablets have the desired effect hun, you'll have to keep us updated as to whether they shift that lb!

Just had a yummy dinner, very plain and simple but tasty. Used one of the cheap fish fillets and wrapped it in tinfoil with a sprinkle of mixed herbs and a drizzle of olive oil then baked for 12mins. Had it with about 7 tenderstem brocolli sticks, boiled for 6 mins. Then made a tomato sauce using 2 shallots chopped and browned in olive oil then half a tin of chopped tomatoes reduced down to make a thick sauce. Here's the carb breakdown so far -

Cuppa coffee, sweetner, tsp single cream 0

Dinner

Fish 0
Half can chopped toms 8
2 shallots (roughly 1tbsp) 1.4
7 sticks of tenderstem brocolli 1.5

500ml water with dinner

Tea (to have whilst at work)

Green salad - leaves, cucumber 1.5
Chicken tikka sandwich filler - 250g tub 1

Choc chip atkins bar 2.1

Will take a 1.5l bottle of water to work with me and try my hardest to get through it. Also, one can coke zero (is my treat when i'm in work and fills me up for a while longer if i'm hungry before tea).

Totalling 15.5

So that's the plan so far anyways..

Oh n Wrinkly, oopsies are in the recipe thread and i think there was also a thread in the main board bit about them. They're made with eggs and soft cheese and can be used in the place of bread. My first batch were a bit rubbish really but others on here love them so i need to give them another go. Haven't got the energy today though, feel a bit under the weather..
