I'm following the plan to the letter and having only occasional success in between unexplained weight gain. I eat a fair bit of basmati rice and wondered if anyone has found this has caused weight gain? I also eat quite a few eggs (2 for breakfast most days) - could this be slowing down weight loss?

Not sure, but a few people have said that there weight loss hasn't really shown up for a couple of weeks, and then they have a good loss once there bodies have got used to it!
I eat mammoth portions of white pasta and that's not hindered me up to now.
Saying that I have heard that eggs can......erm......make u a little less regular in the toilet department?!
Sorry if that was too much info for this time of morning lol x

I know certain foods are technically 'free' I still tend to limit them , because to me its obvious you can eat far too much if you put your mind to it .....maybe you are over doing the free foods?

We were discussing this in class last week. Some of the old timers were saying to us newbies that in the old days of just red & green plans you never mixed your carbs with proteins and whenever they "cheated" and broke the rule they tended not to lose as much weight that week. Most of them tried EE plan when it was introduced but nearly all of them prefer the original red and green so they reckon that if you're doing the EE plan then it makes sense to have smaller portions of carbs and huge portions veg and meat - hence reiterrating the 1/3 superfree rule.

hi i tried ee i liked the flexibility of it but i know i ate too much, i would make a slimming world rice pudding using 3 mullerlight then would eat it in one hit would have been ok if i ate it over the course of the week  i mostly follow red now but think it's a bit of trial and error what suits one doesn't suit another :)

I find that bread slows me down, sadly I love bread :( it maybe a mild allergy/intolerance
WelshCake - same for me too! Also Banana's slow my weight loss down - use to have one a day, now maybe one a week if that.

I agree with scrummymummy - eggs are great for you, but they can make you a bit constipated! If you've noticed you're not powdering your nose (haha) very often, it might be that! I eat quite a lot of rice and I haven't noticed it slowing me down. I do try and stick quite rigidly to the 1/3 superfree, and although I eat big portions, there's a lot of veg and salad in there.

Hi Everyone

Just some bits of info that might be useful to you all.

Carbs can slow down your metabolism slightly whereas protein can help to speed it up. This doesn't mean you shouldn't eat carbs, it just means you need to go carefully with them, whether you're doing WW, SW or whatever plan you have chosen the principle is still the same. Even if it's a 'Free' food.

When you have potato, rice, past, bread then a) keep the portion sizes small and fill your plate with the good carbs found in vegetables b) switch to brown where you can not only will it help to keep you regular but it will help to clean out your system (think of it like an internal exfoliation) c) all the goodness is taken out of the white pasta, bread and rice and then gets replaced with refined sugars - which is why it tastes so flippin good and d) the fibre will keep you feel fuller for longer.

But don't forget if you increase your fibre intake make sure that you also increase you water intake too - that's really important.

Hope that helps.

Rachel
My doc has recently told me the same, about carbs... thanks Rachel :)

I agree with much of what you say, but take issue with this particular part. Refined sugars in white rice and pasta? How?
