FUNCURLS FOOD DIARY, BLOG and CHIT CHAT!! New target set!!

Very wise words dear Heather :D
I'm going to take advice from the lovely EB and think of a pound at a time - we never seem to be happy with a pound, but we should be.
You girls have done so well, proud of ya!

I'm on for a gain this week, a weekend away doesn't result in a loss for me. Oh well.

Good luck for the forthcoming week Heather (and EB too!) :p

Hey Jay!! Howdy?!! Lovely to see you here- great to see old (ahhemm I mean familiar faces or should I say signatures lol!!) Thanks for the vote of confidence! Ellebear is sooo right, I'd rather be a member of the steady 1lb per week club than to be all over the place (like I have been of late!!) At least I know I can maintain my current weight which I'm not unhappy with! It's just that I really really do want to achieve 10st10 and stay there! No more hovering around and treading water which is what I seem to have been doing for 5 or 6 months now!! You're doing great keeping nearly all the lost weight off! Perhaps we should cut ourselves some slack sometimes!!!XXX

Just one week of pure focus and no distractions and you'll lose a gazillion pounds. You're so on it, it's great to see that you can relax a bit and enjoy it! X

Thanks LilSos, you're a pal and speak wise words!! Yes one thing I feel I've learnt to do is get back on it after a ropey spell, which I guess is what we should always have been able to do before the unbalanced compulsion kicked in at some point in our lives!!

Hi Heather (or do you prefer Hevs)
Here for my cuppa. Very Weak, dash of milk and now't else please.

Not read all your diary (yet!) - will keep popping back to read bits - it's a lot to do in one sitting but I'll get there.

May it be a lesson to take it easy when drinking as body not used to it!!!
It's such a shame that alcohol is not free...
xx
Isn't it just lol!!! And would hangover-free be too much to ask?!!XXX
I definitely know what you mean about this. Party at weekend saw me consume about a bottle of fizz and one small malt scotch and I had a seriously thick head all day Sunday. Back on lots of water for the rest of the week to try to flush out all those syns.

You are so close to target - well done you! But I know what you mean about it moving slowly. But, yes I'm definitely in it for the long haul. 4 years and still counting! I will get there is my mantra - now all I've got to do is keep saying it. Over and over and over . . .

Must away. Lots of ironing to do for the apartment and I want to get it done before it gets too hot. Speak again soon.

Just read you were a Cardiac Nurse :D I'm a student and have put cardiac rehab and coronary care for my specialist placements! Can't wait! One side is saying to me cardiac, one is saying midwifery!! xx

Hello just having a nose through the food diary for inspiration, and I am a student nurse to I qualify next June gulp! Night shifts are hard when it comes to sw, I find the next day worse as I am tired and I want something quick doing nursing in general is difficult but it is about organisation, that just means keeping motivated which is hard!! Your diary looks good well done I've only just started mine on here I'm stuck in a rut have had months of sts I'm 8lbs away from target so it is proving hard!

I will not be a fat nurse! My next placement is on a and e I'm excited but very nervous, how have your placements been?

Hi Baby-Belle!
I'm a teeny bit confused as to whether you were chatting to me or to Allie (who you quoted!) as you asked how the placements have been! But you did comment on my diary so you must have been looking at mine....oh well I'm up for a chat anyway even if you were confusing me for Allie lol!!!

I'm a nurse on a cardio-thoracic ITU in Swansea, been qualified for 12 years and have been in my current post for 10 years! I've had years of confusing my body with shiftwork and irregular eating habits, hence my eventual peaking at 15 st 12lb (BMI 36) 20 months ago! I'm not blaming the shiftwork- I've had food/weight issues since I was 16, but the shifts/lack of regular eating slots/constant supply of biscuits and chocolates from patients and relatives at the desk certainly hasn't helped matters!! So in October '09 began my quest to change all that, and here I am in June '11 NEARLY at target (but messing around with the last half stone or so, in a similar situation to you by the looks of it!!)

You are so right about the need to be organised! For me this is the key! I work a lot of 12.5 hour shifts, both days and nights, and I have to be quite religious in my planning and packing up healthy things to last me through the shift! I NEVER rely on the canteen, infact I hardly ever use it, and I always take plenty with me including snacks like fruit, yogurts, HEXb cereal bars, sometimes Mugshots, so that even if I can't get a proper break, I can always grab something that literally takes 2 mins even if it's during a quick toilet break!! And it's really important to eat lots (of the right things) to keep me energised through the shift as we're probably burning more off than we realise! Staying full also lessens the chance of me picking on the chocs, biccies and cakes we often have given to us, or brought in by naughty nurses especially on nights!! It can be a challenge sometimes but the way I see it is that we're worth treating our bodies properly! As you say, you don't want to become 'a fat nurse' and you're right to say it! I became one, and it was so unnecessary and so easily avoided! So you're right to be taking action now!!

What placements have you enjoyed so far? When do you qualify? A&E will be an amazing experience as you will be exposed to a lot! Make sure you make the most of resus and get involved in as many arrests as possible as this will really set you up for when you're qualified! You'll always get the scarey adrenaline rush when arrests happen but they're nothing to be scared of!!

How much have you lost so far by the way?X

Red days??? aherm. Have you gone back to being an EE lover? xxxx

Looks all very organised honey x

Hi luvvy, well the hangover lasted so long my body seemed to be craving carbs! So I thought I'd give myself a week on EE being 100% on plan and cutting out ALL crap like chocolate etc, trying not even to have it as syns and see if I can get my bod back on an even keel!! Red days are NOT a thing of the past for me, do not fear!! There will be plenty more of those to come!!XXX

Hiya Heather

You food always look soooo good. How you manage to be so organised with your job heaven knows. Gold star to you!

Did you enjoy the Bryn Terfel concert? Saw him at an eisteddfod in N. Wales once many years ago before he became famous and he was really good.

Hi again Bev! Aww thank you! Glad you approve of my food! I do go through phases of being more adventurous than others so I think it's time to hit some recipe books and get some inspiration! It's good to mix things up a bit and not stick to the same old things!! With regards to being organised, basically I have to be with the shift work and I actually really enjoy planning and the control it gives me!! And I feel full quite angelic when my collegues are coming back from the canteen with lasagne with a layer of oil floating on top with anaemic looking chips!!

Bryn is this evening in some gardens near Carmarthen! It's an open-air event so this isn't such an exciting prospect as the good old Great British weather is not being too kind to us today!! It has stopped raining but it's cloudy and threatening to rain again! Grrwwww!! We'll be leaving in an hour or so and I was on a night shift last night so must go and beautify!!

Lucky you living in such a lovely sunny climate! It's during the summer that I wish I lived somewhere warm and dry more than during the winter because we somehow have expectations of summer!! Why I don't know! We should learn our lesson!!! XXX

I rememer going to a classical "Concert in the Park" many years ago and we had to sit on tarpaulins with golf umbrellas to protect us. Grim.

Yes the Spanish climate is kind in summer so outdoor concerts are not usually a problem. There is a big music festival near us every year so we usually try to afford tickets for 1 or 2 shows. Mostly jazz but some mainstream too. Saw Winton Marsalis 2 years ago - fantastic; and John Mayall and the Blues Breakers - stunning guitarist with them.
This year we're going to see Chicago and also Eric Burden and the Animals.
Music of my youth!!!

Enjoy yourself tonight - should be excellent even if it rains. Just take a brolly!

Week 88- Day 6 (Sun) - Extra Easy- Day off.

Breakfast- A banana.

Lunch- Went out for a carvery lunch- Free bits:- Beef, pork, broccoli, carrots, peas, swede. Non-free bits:- 1 roast potato (2 syns), 1 small roast parsnip (1 syn), roast onions (1 syn), mashed potato (?2 syns), a little gravy (2 syns). I was actually very pleased with myself as you had to pay for 2 courses (starter/main or main/sweet) even if you only had the carvery, so although it was very tempting to go for the sweet as well (as we were paying for it anyway) I declined and just paid the money because I knew I'd kick myself afterwards if I'd had the sweet just for the sake of it!! An NSV in the bag!!

Late afternoon- Some more roast beef (cold slices) at home. Some cherries.

Tea- Cajun spiced turkey breast with fruity couscous (couscous, mint, parsley, lemon juice, pomegranate, sliced clementine) and salad (mixed leaves, rocket, cherry tomatoes, red pepper, red onion). A chunk of M&S milk chocolate (3 syns).
Just realised I didn't have my HEXb and only had part of HEXa in 2 cups of tea! Oh well, it's the totally wrong way to look at it but I suppose that's about 10 syns saved!!!

Total syns 11.
