gastric band hypnotherapy

I'm hoping to join you next week as I have Hypno booked on Thursday. I am so worried that I will be one of the people it doesn't work for but am also very excited about the possibility that it might. I'm not looking for miracles - if I could just find the strength to not binge in the evenings that would be great. In fact that alone would probably be enough to bring me back to a normal weight as I eat pretty healthily during the day. For me it is not the weight loss that's the goal, it is all about being "normal" around food, putting it in its correct context and not treat it as the one and only response to every emotion!

Anyway - hope you are all still doing well & I will let you know how I get on next week. :)

For the best results you should believe it's going to work for you. You will NOT be one of the ones it doesn't work for, it will work just fine and you will lose weight in no time :D

I'm still not losing/gaining. Remained the same in 5 weeks. I put this down to the fact that I've been immobile since 21st sept following surgery. I'm pleased though as it shows I'm eating properly as no gain. Can't wait to work out & start loosing

Good luck Herewego!!

Hello Alli,

I notice your in Kent. Who are you going to see. I saw the guy. Fantastic. Home - gastric-hypnosis
Nice on the eye too...lol. Always good to have something nice to look at if you can't eat sweets anymore. However, with this technique you can eat any food. Only 3 meals a day.

Just believe in yourself. Good luck.

It's interesting that you say 3 meals a day, my therapy was focussed on quite the opposite! It was about ONLY eating when you are hungry and not because it's the allotted time to eat. We don't naturally eat 3 meals a day and it's actually not the best way to eat. Little and often is a more natural and healthy rhythm for our bodies. We should listen to our bodies, feed it when it tells us it wants feeding and stop when it's full. You wouldn't refuel your car just because someone told you it was time to would you? If the tank was still full wouldn't you wait til it needed more fuel rather than topping it up when it doesn't??

That's exactly what I was told too taz eat when hungry stop when full and not eat just cause its lunch etc... Xxx

I like the 3 meals a day. I never used to eat breakfast. Normally felt hungry about 11.30 so had a huge brunch. Not a good way to start the day. We need a hearty breakfast to start the motor running and preparing us for the day ahead.

Remember your 'breaking fast' You don't eat all night, so you need that kick start. I have a high protein breakfast. Soup for lunch and a very light evening meal.

I suppose each therapist doe's it differently. I went with Carl due to his involvement with Sheila Granger. The only Organisation involved in clinical studies with the N.H.S.

Carl got me to watch a program on his computer, relating to the science of the brain and eating. That really opened my mind that diets are a load of rubbish.

Don't skip meals. A CT scan of the brain showed the brain lighting up when a volunteer who had skipped breakfast was shown pics of high calorie, high fat food and little reaction to low-cal food. The volunteer who had eaten breakfast scan showed no difference between pics of low cal food and High cal food. The area of the brain lighting up was one associated with appetite so the brain was guiding choice towards calorie laden food (think pastries at morning break)

Eating a protein rich breakfast (or any other meal) keeps you satisfied for longer because it triggers the release of more of the chemical that tells the brain you are full.

The key to this low-tech weapon against hunger is a hormone called ghrelin. It is one of the major players in the body's appetite system.

Discovered as recently as 1999, ghrelin is released by specialised cells in the stomach wall.

These cells produce a constant stream of ghrelin whenever the stomach is empty. The ghrelin travels via the blood stream to the brain's appetite centre, an organ called the hypothalamus. As a result, the hypothalamus screams "You are hungry - find food."

But whenever the stomach wall is stretched - when the stomach is full - the cells stop producing ghrelin, and the hypothalamus responds accordingly, turning off the appetite signal. The longer the stomach remains full, the longer you feel satisfied and the less you are likely to eat.

There are probably dozens of hormones that play a role in regulating appetite. Of those that have already been discovered, there is one that is released after eating protein-rich meals (called PYY), one that is released by fat cells (leptin) and several that respond to the presence of any kind of food.

But of all the hormones that make up the appetite system, it is ghrelin that has caused the most interest. In addition to its role in sending the "stomach empty" signal to the brain, ghrelin also promotes fat storage.

Even worse, it inhibits the breakdown of stored fat during times of weight loss. Inject ghrelin into the bloodstream of a rat and the animal eats insatiably - and quickly becomes obese.

I got all this info from Carl. I suppose for them to have their work clinically reviewed they will have to include the science of why our brains work this way.

So the gastric band, exercise and this kind of information as allowed me to lose over 2 stone in just under 2 months. I'm never going to eat when hungry. A good start to the day give my body all that it requires after fasting all night. Soup allows my stomach to remain full longer, stopping the hormones telling my brain to search out food. Especially the high calorie ones and the light dinner, so my body doesn't have to digest a heavy meal in the evening.

But are we still losing weight and feeling good....

You are right about breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day. Very few people have the lifestyle that allows for set meal times these days. I can't eat now unless I'm actually hungry, it no longer feels natural and it's habit eating not neccessity eating. But if it's working for you then that's great, we all have to find the system that suits us and works

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback and positive comments! I'm very excited about this week and feeling hopeful although I don't think I'm going to feel 100% confident that it will work until I see it for myself if that makes sense. I've tried so many hypno downloads and they all work to a degree but I just don't stick with it. This is where I need this to be different. I really want it and I just hope that having "proper" hypnotherapy done will give me a bit more strength to carry on than the downloads have done in the past.

@Lucy - I did consider using the same one as you but whilst I live in Kent, it is easier for me to have it done in London so I am seeing Adrian Matthams on Thursday. :)

Can't wait!! :):):)

Hello Pips,

I've spoken to the guy that did my Hypnosis band. If you send me your email details. Carl as kindly allowed me to let you have a short booklet on what he does for free. Outlining how and why it works etc.

It was good. It was just me and Adrian which felt better as I'm not really good in group situations with people I don't know. I don't know what I was expecting but I didn't feel any different coming out of there but am noticing things now. I seem to be always craving water and tried to drink some coffee earlier (DH had made it) and couldn't bring myself to drink it. I went and made myself some decaf instead. I'm eating less and haven't had any sugary sweets or crisps yet which was my main issue. None of it has been an effort but I have had to think about it a little. I guess the habit to eat is still there even if the craving isn't so I just need to remind myself that I don't need to eat it just because it's what I've always done in the past. Last night I had a handful of grapes and that was all I wanted.

So far so good!

How are you doing?

How you getting on Hun?? Xxx

Hi Nat,

I'm doing ok. Up until yesterday I would have said it was a miracle but after a very stressful day at work (which I thought I'd handled well) I ended the evening with a few chocolates. When I say a few I mean it. Maybe 3 or 4 so nothing like my nightly binges prior to the hypno. I'm feeling confident that I can do this and so far it has been pretty easy. My eating problem is different from many others in that I eat small and healthy meals but can consume several thousand calories between 8 and 10 in the evening by eating sugary sweets like Haribos and also crisps. I haven't had a single sugary sweet (not counting the chocolate) and only a handful of crisps this week which is nothing short of amazing. I have decided to weigh myself monthly so no idea if I've lost weight but I certainly feel better inside and out.

How about you?

That's really fab few bits of choc won't do u any harm it's all about moderation I am a grazer or I should say was! If its * week I crave spice so I had take away last night but it's such a small amount that it doesn't make a difference. Do you feel better in yourself that you are making the right decisions ?
