Gynaecology - PCOS *Long Post Warning* !

Hi Curlywurly,
You have done extremely well on this diet and your losses have been great..don't get me wrong I am ecstatic with my weight loss so far..I have lost 3lb short of 2 stone in 5 weeks and I hope I get to that 2 stone marker this WI on Thursday. I know this diet is the next best thing to surgery and the weight losses are just as dramatic. What I was trying to say with the small weight loss thing in the first week was I was wondering whether PCOS was the reason due to our body wanting to hold onto the glycogen because of the Insulin resistance that comes with PCOS...I was just interested to see what the losses of other PCOS sufferers was like..as I know from personal experience on other diets and sticking to them faithfully that losing weight for me is extremely difficult. You yourself must have battled with it. I can honestly say that we are not only battling our weight but are constantly battling the hormones as well to keep the weight from our door as food is not the issue with PCOS suffers alone...it is the constant battle with insulin within our bodies that causes a majority of the weight gain.
I noticed from your posts that you are from Loughton, well I am just up the road from you in Chigwell..virtually neighbours.
I think I am definitely going to post a thread for us Poly sufferers...where we can spur each other on an support each other.
By the way I agree CD really rocks!!!!!

Emma just a word of warning - they often will put you in to see a "nurse consultant" at your 1st appointment so don't expect to see Mr. Mills himself. Lots of good idea's for questions you need to ask here. Take OH with you as they'll talk to him about tests too. Good luck!

Curlywurley,
Weird I did it the other way round grew up from the age of 10 in Loughton and moved about from the age of 18 and finally settled back in Loughton in 1992 and moved to Chigwell in 1993 and have been settled here ever since..I live near Grange Hill Station.

Just wanted to say best of luck with this Emma and anyone else going through a similar thing x

That is funny!!! my kids go to nursery just down the road from there...... who is your cdc?

Oh my CDC is from Doddinghurst as my BF was supposed to do diet with me and so got one close to her house as she does home visits...that unfortunately didn't work out as my friend can't stick to anything due to her need to binge drink at least twice a week...so I now go to CDC house on a Thursday morning for WI's...her name is Leoni..she is really nice and very supportive...I am apparently her star pupil at the moment...only client she has that is sticking to it 100% (SSing). I am just stubborn thats all once I am determined to do something and I'm in the right headspace then there is no stopping me. Focussing on the end goal is key to success I truly believe that.
Do your kids go to the Nursery opposite David LLoyd....the one that had an incident last year on the New?

Its a shame your friend did not stick with it, it really works but its like any diet you have to be in the right frame of mind...
No they dont go to that one my niece used to go there a number of years ago.... they go to one at the synagogue in chigwell..
I have recently joined back to the David lloyd Im loving it..... do you go there?

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the rubbish late reply, my internet is so unreliable.

Nicky - thanks so much for sharing your story sweet, it sounds like you have really been through it and I appreciate you helping me and advising me. I think a PCOS thread would be great for encouragement. I have been quite pleased with my losses (even if they are lower than others) BUT I still loose a stone each month, so i'm happy with that.

FatFighter - You're right! I did ring this morning to be told, I would be seeing the Nurse for my initial checks, then I will go in to see Mr Mills.

Shopaholic - Thanks so much for that website - it's great! I have been searching online for a while and come across nothing like this, how useful, thank you angel :)

Curly/Nicky - Simon's cousin had his Wedding in Chigwell, I can't remember the name of the place where we stayed, but it was beautiful - get you two eh living in such a posh place! woo! lol

I have noticed a few of you have said about my HB beingg checked. I have mentiioned this to his before and to say he was not happy is an understatement! I think for now we will look at my problem first and get that seen to before I approach the subject *gently* again - GRR Men are so sensitive. (I'm so glad HB doesn't come on here - I can have a good b*tch!!! and boy do I love it!!! LMAO)

I just want to say to everyone a MASSIVE thanks and ((hugs)) I have been pretty petrified tbh about the whole thing, and i'm quite anxious about not being able to have a family that I've always dreamed of. I have my perfect HB (even if I do moan about him, really, he is absolutely wonderful :) and I am a very lucky lady :) ) But I also want our perfect kids - I'm sure no gynae can guarantee 'perfect' children, but for me, mine and Simon's children will be perfect. I'm sure of it :)

But after so many of you have shared your stories and offered me such wonderful advice I really do feel much better about Thursday's appointment. I'm armed wiith questions, a totm diary, previous meds etc and feeling confident to conquer this PCOS.

Thanks again everyone, you're all wonderful.

Big Hugs x x x

Glad to here that your'e kids don't go to that Nursery! The gog is on Limes Farm isn't it? Unfortunately, I had the pleasure of living there once! The synagogue is probably lovely, but most of the people attending the synagogue do not have the pleasure of living on the estate thankfully!
I was going to join the David LLoyd but I thought it was a bit too posh for me and plumped to join the Newly refurbished Fullwell Cross gym and pool...I think the fees would probably be cheaper...I only pay £35 pm for unlimited access to pool and gym facilities and they are just building a new spa that sounds fab. My son also comes with me so I needed a place that he would feel comfortable going on his own as he is a very shy and sensitive 16 year old with esteem issues...he also has inherited weight problems and although 5' 11" he weighs in at 17 stone....he failed miserably on CD and I have just bought him the Diet Plate online to control his portion sizes, as he eats like a racehorse!!
Is the David Lloyd reaonably priced?

Emma,
Don't want to burst your bubble or anything...but if and when you get referred to a Fertility Specialist one of the first tests they will want to perform is the dreaded Sperm test as they need to know and rule out problems on both sides so they will know how to progress with the correct treatment for you as a couple..because god forbid he should have immobile sperm or a low sperm count then the treatment will be completely different from the treatment offered to you as a woman with PCOS..infact they will bypass alot of the initial treatment normally offered to a woman suffering PCOS ie; clomid etc. because in effect it would be useless to you!
They don't usually get your OH to perform this test there and then...if you are not far from the Hospital, it can be performed in the PLEASURE of your own home (if you get my drift), you just need to get it to the hospital within the hour...keeping it warm...I shoved it down my bra til' I got there and put my foot down all the way...I did not stop at go to collect my £200. Make it fun and enjoy!
I hope you do it the natural way, having PCOS does not always mean infertility...sometimes you ovulate and sometimes you don't...just keep practising!!!!
Good luck for Thursday, I hope you are armed with a list of questions and don't be too embarrassed to ask, If you had seen the test I had done the other week you would have been mortified (I had a camera pushed into my womb to see what..if anything was going on) it wasn't too bad apart from the bit where they douche water inside you to open the cervix and you have a bucket placed underneath you whilst upright on a bed to catch the down pour...how awful!
Sorry to overwealm you with my horror stories, but, I guess I am reaching that phase in my life when the plumbing just starts to give up all together....if only it was as simple as calling the local plumber for help..I'd be laughing!!!!!

Hi Nicky,

You haven't burst my bubble hun - we knew hb would be asked to check his swimmers at some point! :) lol @ you keeping it warm in your bra! he he!

Hi Emma,
I have PCOS also, found out when I was about 18 also had alot of weight to loose by the time I was 20 !!! I did CD/LL last year lost 6 stone & fell pregnant pretty much as soon as we started trying as my periods came back pretty much straight away when I started losing weight. I used to have one maybe every 6 months best thing I ever did CD/LL. I got some ovulation kits from Ebay so I knew exactly when I was ovulating, I gave birth 5 weeks ago to a lovely little boy. I have put the details down below if you want to have a look at what they do. Just thought I would let you know my story to give you some hope :) !! Starting my diet story over again tho as I put quite a bit of weight back on :(

i was told at 18 i had PCOS and was never given any advice except i probably wont have children.well i weigh more now than i did then and ive got 2 gorgeous sons.so its not impossible to get pregnant when you have PCOS.

Julie - Yes I have been reading your threads with interest. I'm so happy that IVF is going ahead for you, and I really hope it is successful. Do let me know how you get on hun. :)

Fatandfedup - It's great to hear of all these people who have children naturally. I guess I have just been a little 'scared' of the possibilities. So before ttc I want to get any possible 'issues' that may crop up and get them rectified.

Thanks for your help - I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! :)
