Hairy Problem :-/

Can i just say I love this thread! I am sorry to say that I am lovingly that i am not alone with the facial hair problem, it has haunted me for years-and I am sure we all feel alone with it.
I always shaved, and like many here was having to do it twice a day, on my chin and neck. The prob being this obviously makes it worse. Anyway, thanks to everyone being so brave an finally talking about it xxxx

I used to be so ashamed of it. I was bullied at school because of it but you know what... it's part of me. I can't change it but i can learn to accept it. My other half isn't bothered... he will stand talking to me while i shave. My little boy thinks it's funny that mummy has a prickly chin. But you know what... I could have missing limbs or debilitating disabilities... So for me, I'd take the hair any day.

this is very true!!

The hubby is also fine with it, although i didnt tell him for a very long time, but it is me!!

I am a LOT more confident than i used to be!!

I used to live with my hair down. I wouldn't let him touch my face, I'd run to the bathroom every morning to shave before he saw me.... cripes i was so paranoid about it. Silly really, it's only a bit of hair.

Sounds familiar!! :D

well i have to say, i get only a very few fair, fine, baby hairs on my neck area, but i'd still be mortified if the boyf caught sight of it. dont like having him touch my neck etc, even now that i'm virtually hair free! x

I too have suffered from PCOS for 10 years. My chin and upper lip had gotten to the stage where the only thing I could do was shave every morning. Even at that my chin would have re-growth by later in the day.
I have been on the waiting list to see a hormone specialist for 2 years. This is just to see if he is willing to let me have laser hair removal on the NHS.
In the end i have given up and decided to pay for the treatment myself. I pay £30 per session and there has to be 1 month between sessions. I have only had one session so far almost 3 weeks ago and only this week am finding that I can now go 3 days between shaving and even at that some of the hairs are not growing back.
The lady explained to me how the hair growth cycle works and that there are 3 different stages. The laser only kills the hairs whilst they are still attached to the root. Obviously the hairs that are there will be at all different stages so that is why you need around 6 sessions to eliminate them.

I am very impressed so far.

BTW - I also paid £250 for a home laser machine which was rubbish. If anyone wants to try it they are more than welcome to have it.

i really feel 4 u,i don t suffer from facial hair but worling in a nhs laser clinic i c women whose lives r transformed with treatment there come in at the start with low confidence and can hardly look u in the eye and by the end of treatment there blooming, its great 2 c.I think there should b much more about it in womens mags,i was amazed 2 c the amount of ppl with this problem, its so common but ppl feel alone. As 4 GPs alot of them r not even aware that theres treatment on the NHS 4 facial hair.

Ladies you need light treatment not laser. Light treatment is safer and less abrasive.

I haven't been checked for pcos, although I'm pretty sure I have it and I had an extremely hairy face and neck. I started my light treatment in dec 2006 and never looked back. My face is cleaner, smoother and in better condition.

Yes you have to shave and not epilate once you start your treatment but like contrary belief, it DOES NOT make your hair thicker than before.

5 years later and I go for treatment twice a year now just to top it. It only costs me 70 quid for my full face and neck because I've been going for so long and I go to a clinic in Manchester.

I see alot of deals on group on so that is an options but if can afford it-DO IT. You will not regret it.

I have to say I am SO happy to have found this thread, I mean, I know facial hairiness is far from uncommon but actually seeing people post the same things as I go though, it's so nice.

I have PCOS and having to shave my neck and chin every morning can make me feel so manly, I also get hair on my chest and back. I had my back sugared a couple of times times and the beautician said she gets a lot of women asking so she put it on her price list. Luckily since then, the growth seems to have died down quite a bit so I only need to depilate every 1-2 months.

I am fair skinned with naturally black hair so you can imagine how noticeable it is. It can be so isolating sometimes, I can't say this to any of my friends because I don't want them to know and I'd be mortified if any of them said they'd noticed (I just have to hope they haven't).

So glad I found this forum! I am also hoping to try out IPL on my upper lip and if successful, try it on other areas xx

I'd say try the IPL of a bigger area jesca.. The upper lip can take a little longer for it to work on.. I noticed results after the first treatment on my neck.. I started to get track lines lol and started to fall out itself after 2 weeks.. Was wonderful to see the hair fall off.. I have recommended so many people and if anyone is in the Manchester area they must see the ones i see- you will get 10% off too if I recommend you!

dark hair is best 4 laser ,it does nt work on fair hair, ive found 4 most ppl light therpy does nt work well

I've not had any problems with light and it depends on every skin whether it will work or not. Laser has more 'danger' than light and I would rather for the treatment to take longer to work than to use laser and increase the chances to burn my face.

Hi - so for someone who is naturally fair - skin and hair colour, and with sensitive skin, which one would you recommend out of light or laser? May skin can tolerate waxing by the way, just stays really red for 24 hours after and then calms down.

Thanks :)

Fair hair on fair skin will take a long tine to have any effects tbh.. You would have to speak to th consultants as most will not recommend you to do it as it would be a waste of money.. You should definately speak to them first before making a decision

Ok. Thanks for your help. Just curious as to which option would be better suited for me.

My mum believes that I will be able to get laser treatment on the NHS so I'm sure if you say it's causing your confidence to be low then they should do it! good luck!x

Think it may depend on the NHS trust in your area but my area (Devon) doesn't offer it I had to go private and pay!
