Hi Guys

If you eat and then come out of ketosis does it happen immediately or can it take some time?

I eat on Saturday afternoon mainly protein but a bit of carbs. I used a ketostix yesterday and it looked like I was fine and didn't feel hungry.

All of a sudden about 10 minutes ago I started to feel REAL hunger. My tummy is rumbling/aching. I had a bar at lunchtime as usual.

It is also TTOM but I don't normally have these feelings.

Please HELP!

Hi Lollypop,

I think it depends on how much carbs you've eaten, and whether they were simple or complex etc, but generally I found that even with a small amount of slow release carbs it happened quite quickly, say within a couple of hours. I wouldn't have thought that what you ate on Saturday would affect you suddenly on Monday if it hadn't before then? Maybe the bar triggered it, I know some people have said that the bars can trigger cravings etc, especially if you are not in established ketosis. I understand that this is why bars are not allowed for the 1st 2 weeks (I think) of starting SS.

The upside is that if you've only eaten a small amount of carbs, you will slip quickly back into ketosis as soon as you start to SS again. But you will probably feel hungry in the meantime! And probably shouldn't have any bars for a while in case you feel hungry again.

Hope this helps - just my experience speaking here, I am not a CDC or any other kind of 'expert'.

Sounds like you need more water.
