Help my basic bolognaise/pasta sauce tastes bland

A bear on a mission!
I want to make a pasta/bolognaise sauce I can freeze & add to things IYKWIM

This is what I normally do but it tastes bland.

Ingredients:

1 tin tomatoes
1 onion
1 pepper
mushrooms
tomato puree
garlic
Mixed herbs

I fry off the onion/pepper/mushrooms/garlic add the tin of tomatoes, puree & mixed herbs.

I let it simmer away for about 20 mins.

Where am i going wrong??
 
I add a pinch of chilli powder nd some tandoori in too about a teaspoon nd that tastes fab for me x
 
My secret ingredient is a dash of Balsamic vinegar and a pinch of sweetner as well as some chilli flakes and bovril
 
Hi I use passata instead of chopped toms, add some water with a splash of Worcester sauce and a knorr beef stock pot. You have to let it simmer and reduce for a bit longer but I think the stock pot makes all the difference to the flavour. Also if it is for a quick meal I would sometimes add a bag of ready prepared soup mix for extra veg and herbs, carrots celery parsley etc. (tescos do one for about £1). This also adds extra flavour. The other thing I would do is add the garlic as the mince is browning rather than the start.
Hope you find some tweaks that you like cos it is such a handy free meal. Plus left overs are handy to freeze. Best of luck.
 
The spag bol oxo cube is also great to use to flavour sauces and free :)
