Hypnosis for Weight Loss- 3 weeks on - making slow but steady progress

Well I got my Self-Change hypnosis book and read the first bit last night in bed - I always have trouble getting to sleep, anyway I read up to about page 50 and the book itself only starts on page 37 ---- I read the bit about a 'progressive relaxation script' then turned the light off and went straight to sleep! Could take me a while to get through the book at this rate.

You need to make a tape recording of yourself speaking these scripts to use during your self hypnosis - I don't have a tape recorder so will see if I can record something somehow --- either get a recorder or make a cd on the pc?????

I will let you all know what happens, if you all dont mind.

Yes please, would be interested to hear how it goes. :)

ooh good luck Holly. Are you going to the lady I recommended?

Please let us know how you get on

Hi Sam,

Rang your lady and spoke to her husband, but she doesn't do weekends and that is the only time I can manage. I really wanted somebody who was recommended, but researched well and found this man, also in Sutton!

Hypnotherapy is something I have often considered, but would probably never have booked if it hadn't been for your thread, so thanks for inspiring me. :)

Will report back later.

Hypnotherapy for weight loss

Hi Sam

Good luck with the hypnotherapy - I'm a full-time hypnotherapist and I can assure you it works very very well. The only thing that hasn't been discussed on the forum is how long it lasts...its not permanent (sadly.) The suggestions used in a hypnotherapy session will last around 4 weeks for the 'average' person and they'll wear off gradually over that time.

Hypnosis is very good for either kick-starting a diet (you'd have one session and then, if you wanted come back for another as and when you needed it,) or for undergoing a course of sessions (we offer a free CD, which you can use forever more if you want,) a full no-diet programme, with a manual, showing you how you can get off the diet merry-go-round once and for all and only eat when you're hungry, but eat WHATEVER you want...no guilt and amazingly you'll find that you'll end up eating so much healthier if you listen to your own body.

I also do support groups for the major diet groups (weight watchers, rosemary conley etc) to help keep up and re-start motivation.

I practice from a complementary health centre in Bedford and our offices are not the norm by any means for our profession -often you'll find hypnotherapists working from home or from a back room, which is not a terrible thing but their surroundings will match their 'busy-ness' if you like. Sadly, in hypnotherapy, as in all things in life, you pretty much get what you pay for. I know someone in Bedford charging £30 per session for stop smoking but I also know she puts on a CD player and walks out of the room...I personally think thats offensive and extremely unprofessional. We tailor every one of our sessions to the client in our consulting room at that time - if you don't it won't work for most of them....after all we're not battery hens!

If you're looking for well-trained, professional, INSURED hypnotherapists you could have a look at our professional organisation's website - SuccessfulHypnotherapy.co.uk There's a map of the country and you can find my colleagues on there - I'm a Council member of the IAPH so I'd vouch for their training being second to none (we're psychoanalysts too, which mean we use 99% psychology, 1% hypnosis - the hypnosis is only as good as the person using it.)

Our specialist therapy is HypnoAnalysis, which looks for the root cause of why people overeat, suffer from depression, panic attacks, fears, phobias, anxiety and a whole list of other symptoms. They all come from the same root cause - bottled up anxiety. Once you've dealt with that the weight will literally just drop off you.

The other thing to say about hypnosis is that you actually do have to exert some willpower for it to work really really well - we can't make you do something you don't want to, but we can make it very, very easy for you, and enjoyable too. Who doesn't want to feel good about themselves, that's what we do.

Hope this lot helps. I wish you the very best and I'm sure you'll do really well.

Sue Wilson

BTW everyone there is a prog about Hypnotherapy on Monday (BBC 2 9PM). As it is the beeb it should be good and not too sensational. Really hope it come to the conclusion that it works as my 1st ap is on Tues morn!

HI All

Not posted for a few days but thought Id better let you know that it seems I am not cured of my bingeing after all.

Its totm and it is always a horrendous time for me. Without being too graphic, i get a full on flood for 2 days and always suffer with terrible mood swings for the first day or two of each period.

Well, I was hoping that since my hypnotherapy I would be able to control my urges to eat this time, but sadly I havent been able to.

Im not normally one for chocolate but totm is the one time when I usually indulge, and this totm has been no exception. Infact I had a whole family sized bag of m&ms last night, and Ive taken zoe to a birthday party today and been picking at all the party food.

Ive come upstairs to distract myself for a bit so Im not tempted to eat more crap. I cant understand why I have done this to myself after being so good for the past 2 weeks.

I really thought that hypnosis had solved my problems but now im not sure what to think. I suppose, in the great scheme of things, that if I can limit my binges to one a month - totm related then thats not too bad, its just a case of seeing now whether I need to eat again tomorrow evening, and the night after that....

Sorry if Ive disappointed anyone that has been following my progress. I just thought it best to be honest with you all so that any of you thinking of following in my footsteps can see the whole picture

Sam,

I think you are being too hard on yourself. You have had a fabulous two weeks.

I have normal sized friends who have never had a weight problem, never counted a calorie or point and yet have chocolate cravings (and give in to them) at TOTM. So in my books you are just 'normal'.

Stop beating yourself up, ride the storm and hopefully in a day or two you will be back on track.

As for the hypnotherapy, I have enjoyed reading your progress and have always wanted to try it, your posts gave me the push I needed.

Hang in there and be more positive :)

You've done great so far! I agree with the above post, that millions of women of normal weight crave chocolate at TOTM. It appears to be a recognised thing! Next month don't be buying a family sized bag of ANYTHING! 2 small normal bags should do it! Keep it up. How are the meal time portion sizes going? Its there that most people have to cut back on, not the monthly chocolate one ( unless its multiple family sized chocolate packs):D

I never had the same results as you Sam, although it was still fairly positive. I've lost 3lbs over the week and thats with me eating, I'm definitely eating less at meal times and whereas before I couldn't betrusted near chocolate etc... I feel I can have a piece now and be satisfied with that. I even started my nursing placement and never touched the chocolates and biscuits that were handed in (that in itself is not usualfor me). Given that, I'm using my Paul McKenna CD every day and feel that has probably helped me more than the hypnosis itself. I'd say wait till TOTM has passed and reassess how you feel about it.

Thanks for your replies ladies, it means a lot.

I think perhaps I have been a bit hard on myself. TOTM does get to most of us, and in the great scheme of things, chocolate once a month is not going to ruin a whole months good work. As long as I can stop at the once a month I shouldnt be beating myself up.

TOTM symptoms are much better this morning so hopefully the need for choc has passed.

The hypnosis in general has been fantastic. I have been sticking to 3 meals a day, and feeling the need to leave a bit on my plate each time. Any snacks have been fruit or yoghurt instead of cakes and biscuits so progress has been made. My clothes were feeling looser till totm arrived but the bloating has put a stop to that for a bit.

Im going to see how I go for the next few days and if I feel I need it I will book another session. Im also going to religiously listen to the cd she made for me every single day.

Thanks again for listening and supporting. xxx

Sam
I've been reading your posts regularly - I agree with all the others and that you cant beat yourself with a stick for the choccies.... If I were to say to you that you had to live the 'rest of your eating life' the way that you had been doing forever, would you not agree that over a period of time that you would be exactly where you wanted to.

I think that you have been incredibly brave and honest not here where you say that it was important but to yourself.

The real food world does exist and plenty of my mates eat a family pack of M&M's more than once a month hun.... And lots and lots of other stuff.

Take a step back and adjust your thoughts to actually how well you have done for so long rather than focus on 24-48 or 36 hours which unfortuantely for us ladies happens 1 x per month!

Well done and keep up all your efforts xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I went for hypnosis on Monday...during it I was told fill an imaginary tabel with all the choc etc you can think of...I felt like I was going to vomit..now usually I eat it all..:wave_cry:bye bye nice food...anyhow
since then i have eaten really well what I want but 3 times a day and I have been snacking on FRUIT!

It feels weird...real weird!..
Going to sole source tomorow see if it has helped..I have had no bread/pastry and am hoping this is the key to my restart!:D

Yes I have another one on the 27th...dealing with my relationship with food why I eat the way I do etc.. she is also a trained counseller so I get the best of both worlds!

I tried hypnotherapy and it did absolutely nothing for me but I think it's a very individual thing. Best thing I ever invested in was Cognitive behaviour therapy, that was last year and it has totally altered the way I think about food. CD is excellent for long term weight loss as it does same, alters your attitude towards food.

I also tried it before and it did nothing for me! This time around though (4 years later) it really hit something!

I had hynosis for smoking 2 years ago and worked fantastic for me BUT went and had hypnosis last week for weight and it didnt work. Not the same hypnotheripst I must add so started SS+ 3 days ago.

Thought Id better update this as have had quite a few Pms in the last couple of days.

As I posted a few days ago, I had a major blip around the start of TOTM. Its always been a bad time for me, whether dieting or not, I always stuff my face when totm arrives.

The good news is that since then my eating has returned to "normal". I am sticking with the three meals a day, and only snacking on fruit if I feel hungry between meals. My portions are much smaller than they were before the hypnosis but probably slightly bigger than I could manage after the first hypnosis session.

I would say I am eating healthily 95% of the time and my eating is confined to meal times now instead of constant munching throughout the day.

I am away next week on holiday but I think I might book a top up session when I come back just to keep me on the right track. I'll see how Im going.

Im really glad that so many people have got involved in this thread and whilst clearly the hypnosis hasnt worked for everyone, it does seem to have helped many of us.

Edited to add, that the weight is only coming off at about 1lb a week so the progress is slow but steady. As long as it is coming off I am happy. For the first time in my life I dont feel the desperate urge to be losing 1/2 stone a week!
