It's actually been proven that people who kept a food diary did better than those that didn't...your choice though :)
The food diary on 'My Fitness Pal' is really good you can use the website or they have a phone app (with barcode scanner) for the updating on the move.

What's really helped me is seeing the fat & calories per food item not just per meal so I know which bits of my meal are contributing what.

I have a written food diary and I have one on here for support as i seriously dont think you could find better support anywhere else :) x
