Well, after weeks of faffing about ive finally managed to get to the dr's today as im now in my consultation period at work and have time to do stuff!

I feared the worst and it has been confirmed that i have achillies tendonitis :(

Bummer!

I cant do any classes at all in the gym, i have to take ibuprofen 3 times per day and have some specfific exercises that i need to do twice a day to stretch the tendon and prevent it from snapping - BAD TIMES!!!

On a plus note, ive got to do all of the above for the next 2 weeks and if there is no improvement i have to go to an ICAT specialist who may recommend steriod or anti inflamatory injections directly into the tendon which last for around 6 months and you can continue normal activity during this time

Dr has said i can still do the gym but only low impact exercise which wont put any strain on my tendon such as the cross trainer, cardio wave, rower etc - thank god!

Wish me luck folks and keep your fingers crossed for me so i can have these injections :)

I am sorry to hear that hun! My partner gets tendonitus in his wrist! His has improved though since I have been with him, so fingers crossed yours will improve too. Good luck xx

Wishing you a speedy recovery and I hope all goes well for you!

Love Mini xxx

You can still do upper body weights and you could swim!

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you will soon being feeling better - as Judi says swimming would be the ideal exercise for you, it would put no pressure on your tendon at all, in fact it could do it some good, and good luck with the injections if you need them.

I have tendonitis in my thumbs and I can sympathise with you Hun.
As the others have suggested all is not lost and swimming is a fantastic way to tone up!

Thanks for your advice and support folks!

I have been swimming and doing weights but i pack on muscle easily so i've had to ease off on the upper body weights as im starting to look like a Russian Shot putter :p

I cant swim at the mo as ive had one of my tattoo's coloured in so i need to steer clear of chlorine for about 2 weeks until i am healed. :)

Hi GCH fingers crossed you make a speedy recovery. Have you considered something like pilates or yoga as an exercise option? Both low impact but not the easy option many people think. Also good for toning the body rather than putting on muscle.

I LOVE pilates and yoga but im still unable to do both after my operation because of the strain it puts on my muscles and incision line where i was cut open for my TT.

I would love to be able to do both of them again but my doc says im looking at roughly january before i can start doing them again :(

I can sympathise with you, had to have part of the tendon on my knee removed 6 weeks as I have a problem with the mechanics of my knee which caused severe tendonitus. I had the injections in my knee every 3 weeks for 6 or so months and although it sounds painful it's no where near the pain of a tattoo, it just stings. Remember to rest up as well, elevate with ice is what I keep getting told. now I'm looking forward to getting rid of the crutches and pain killers and getting back on track of loosing weight. Hope you get better soon

Ooooh - hope you back on your feet soon hun - i feel your frustration!

In terms of the injections in your knee, how long have they said they will last for before you have to have further treatment?

I was having mine every 3 weeks as my tendon was in a really bad way due to radiotherapy. They were meant to last for about 6 weeks at a time, once went 5 weeks apart and omg it was agony. Slowly getting back on my feet, off to see the surgeon tomorrow to see what they think. I miss going to the gym as had just started getting into a routine that I was enjoying and seeing the benefit from but at least I've not put any weight on since my op which is fab seeing as I've been sofa bound ;-)

Ouch!!

Im really pleased you have STS whilst being 'sofa bound' well done hun!

Have they discussed surgery with you or are they going to manage the pain etc with the injections on a regular basis?

i had surgery 6 weeks ago, they removed the part of my tendon that sits below my knee and cut the nerves. That's why I've been sofa bound, started taking steps about the house without crutches but still not confident enough to do outside esp as it's been raining here. Problem is, not allowed back to work until I'm off the crutches so I'm working really hard now to get off them as I'm oh soooooooo bored. Sad I know but I really do want to get back to work as only so much Jeremey Kyle a girl can watch.

Hopefully the injections work for you and you can get back to your normal routine quickly. I know someone who had their achilles operated on and will ask them about it if you like?

Ive got achillies tendonitis, had it since xmas, in both, one is now healed (no pun intended) but im left with a perminant bump on the heel, the other is getting there, slowly, at least I dont have to walk down the stairs sideways like a crab anymore because they were sooooo stiff after getting up.

Def do exersizes, you got to really, I couldnt have coped with out stretching.
Ive rejoined the gym now, but im watching myself, I put on too much weight and was stiffening up all over.

I decided not to go down the injection road, even tho it may have taken me longer to heal, damn that word again!!
Bloody nightmare, I couldnt even walk too far at its worse, and like I said in the morning they were hell!!!
Hope you recover well xx
