Step 1 Sole Source January 2015

This is the most isolating diet just been out with my mum and sister and have had to come home because they wanted to go for lunch :-(

Maybe worth asking your consultant to try some different ones?

To be fair, no point in dressing it up, this diet is really really boring! Especially with how limiting it is socially. Still, I'd rather be bored than miserable about my weight.

I'm finding it OK though, so used to it now. 10 days more on SS then intending to spend 6 weeks stepping up. Should be at a BMI of about 25 when I start step 2 and hoping I lose another 5-6lbs on the steps. Really not looking forward to the steps as I've never stuck it out before but determined I have to do it this time.

How you feeling other than being a bit bored? Still strong and committed??

Your doing so well:) very committed I just hope I reach target by June. Does it get hard when u introduce food. I lost weight years ago without no particular diet just changed my eating habits and exercise. But I can't do that no more on my own it's so hard.

I think my mistake has been in the past to get to goal and just think I don't need to bother with the steps. The trouble with that is that generally you get a big water gain while your body gets used to carbs and then immediately you're no longer at goal and thats made me feel like I might as well eat what I want and get back on the diet later to get back to goal. It ends up being a bit of a vicious cycle. I think the steps are really important, firstly so you don't just binge, and secondly because you don't end up with the shock of that water gain.

As long as you carry on with the attitude you have you'll definitely get to goal, I just think its really important that you invest in an extra few weeks away from 'normal' eating to do the steps to finish it off properly.

Bikini body i so know what you mean, I've turned down 3 things that I really wanted to do this week. The way I'm looking at it is I'm getting my head down and just getting through it, and then I will enjoy life even more when I get to target. I think it's helping that it's so dark and miserable outside, because I've been thinking 'I'll have a quiet and boring winter, but as soon as the spring comes I will be confident and wearing the clothes I want to wear, and socialising all the time' in the meantime there's always doing slightly different things like the cinema etc instead of the pub :)

Love that attitude Pollyanna!

Yeah it is hard, but I genuinely think it feels much better to sit and resist than the temporary pleasure of indulging. You're doing so well!

Yeah not bad. Only 10 days more on SS before I move up the steps. Bit nervous but planning on two weeks of step 2 which isn't all that different from SS for me so I've got 3 and a bit weeks to get my head around the higher steps!

When I did Cambridge the last time I went up through the steps properly with no gains and some more loss even. So it does work :) I enjoyed going up the steps, getting excited about the new things I was allowed on each one. I always measured everything out properly to know I was only eating what I was allowed. What makes you nervous about it Jo?

I'm fed up with the diet affecting my social life too. It's crazy how all my interactions with friends seem to revolve around food and drink! I'd love to suggest meeting friends for something healthy like a walk in the park - but it's too cold for that!! Cinema is a good distraction, I was at the imitation game last night - brilliant film! Id recommend it, it's been out a while though so you should catch it before it's gone :)

I guess because I've never managed it before I'm worried I'll fail at it again. I really feel as though cracking that last few weeks on the steps will make me more likely to succeed with maintenance in the long term. How much did you lose on each step? How long did you do them for?

Hey all! Had my day up London and fairly successful, no wine for a start :) stuck to vodka and soda, which I know is defo a no on the plan but I'm so happy with that :) had a really great day, naughty iv had nothing else all day as busy, so iv just had a spag bowl coming home (the CD one) and gona have a bar with a tea before bed.

Haven't posted for a while so thought I would check in. I started on the 5th and have been doing ss, the plan is to stay on that until the 31st! Have lost 14 lb so far and get weighed on Friday :) I am too worried about eating so plan to try and go up the steps for another 8 weeks! It's such a strange diet...is feel like because you deprive yourself so much that you may never eat badly again! I would highly recommend watching any of the dual dynamics Ss success stories they have inspired me this week :) happy slimming everyone!

I did step 2 for a week and then 3,4 and 5 for two weeks each. I lost 2lbs on step 2 - a lot for that step I know but I'd had a stay the same week on SS+ the week before so I think it was just balancing out. Then 1lb the 2nd week on step 3 and another the 2nd week on step 4. From then I stayed the same. I started exercising loads then, going to the gym every day. I think maybe it was on step 4 I started that, not sure. But I reckon I went into that too hard, only lasted a couple of months and the novelty of going wore off and I just stopped. I went on holidays then and the healthy diet went out the window, and when I got back it was about a month until I had exams so I never got back into the healthy eating. And 6 months later here I am again! This time I'm going to do a few things a bit differently. I will reintroduce exercise, but at a more sensible rate that I can keep up. I will keep weighing myself once a week and if I see it has gone up a bit have a healthy few days until the damage is undone. I won't let myself get out of control again - I am not doing this again next year!! I wouldn't worry too much about going up the steps, you seem really focused on what you want and once you stick to the rules you'll be ok. I've found weight doesn't go on that quick when you eat something unhealthy as a one-off, you have to be consistently eating badly. And a few healthy days can fix a bad one! X

Ahhhh sounds like you're in the right headspace to do yourself proud and maintain successfully this time :)

Very interesting to hear about your experiences.

How much longer on SS have you got? Will you do the same 7 weeks on the steps this time?
