Licking the Lid of Life....my esoteric diary

you could try My fitness pal !

Yes I used that before and funnily enough not an hour ago I re downloaded it. I have to be careful to ignore the kcal though otherwise I know I will start to restrict myself. Like today for example. Because I used lean beef mince instead of extra lean my daily kcal came in at nearly 2000. According to MFP I should be having around 1800. I know full well on other days it will be much lower but I was like, what?!

Maybe I will literally buy a notebook!!

I write all my food in a normal diary, it used to have the cal content pre sw but now just right it all down so can look over it from time to time xx

To be honest I only go to group for weigh in, I never stay for group, have a page a day diary which I use as a food log and never have used the website apart from a few recipes and syn checks when I first started :) My stats are only logged on here... So to all intents and purposes I go it alone apart from a Facebook group and minis.

For me it's worth the weekly subs to use the scales lol (I can't have scales in the house or I become scarily obsessed :/ )

I did try my fitness app but it's not for me ... I scared myself with how low my calories were and then started to worry about how to increase my calorie intake while not adding sugars. Sheer madness I tell you! I'm far too prone to obsessing to risk going down that road. Interestingly though, I was talking about it to my eldest daughter (a 'naturally' slim size 8) and she told me that she never shows as having had enough calories and is usually short by several hundred, which somewhat answers the question of what a slim person eats ;) (loving my bracelet by the way - thanks :D )

Yeah I second a cheap & cheerful diary, that you can look back over. If you bite it, you write it, even if its a cr@ppy day :D I'm having a good day, the week is young though, hate that my group weigh-in is on Mondays, feel so heavy after the weekend, or is that just me??

I weigh in on Mondays too, but quite like that .. I tend not to eat a lot at weekends (work is my danger zone foodwise), so feel emptier at the beginning of the week.

Talking of feeling emptier ... the dreaded constipation has kicked in. Has that happened to anyone else this late in(4 months)? I haven't changed anything so I'm wondering if this is normal lol. It's scanbran for me I think ... do I start with a1/2 in my porridge or 1? :)

I've been making at least I one scan bran cake a week which I eat over the course of a couple of days & it has been working wonders, was sceptical at first & left them to languish in the cupboard for ages before I tried it. You can use 5 as a HeB or a syn per slice,so if I make it on a day as a HeB,it's a syn free cake :)

I used to love staying to class - I found it genuinely good fun, and a way to exchange ideas, but also to give & receive help & advice - perhaps I was just lucky & went to a good class. I've always just used ordinary notebooks to record my eating. I love that feeling of control I get from that, though not sure I should relish the feeling of control over food quite so much TBH. Oh - & I weigh my heaviest on a Monday (weekends are my weakness & a food trap), so I WI on a Saturday which tends to give me a good start to the weekend.

Constipation? Magnesium is the way to go! With the added benefit of helping to reduce period pain over time :) Scan bran cake is the only item I've ever cooked that actually made me physically sick...! Maybe I did something wrong!

Haha. I frequently have my 5 slices as a HEXB. Normally used like you would a ryvita as its easy for work. Id start off slow though maybe and my word do you need to up your fluids because otherwise they have the opposite effect and you don't want that!!

Yeah ideally I would weigh-in on Friday morning nekkid, which I did in the 8weeks I tried to fly solo, but 9lbs gradually came back on so I headed back to Group, times are limited so I'm stuck with Mondays. I love writing my food down, it makes think about what I'm eating & find it triggers me to plan. My consultant isn't enamoured by the concept, says "do you really wanna be doing a food diary when you're 90", but if it keeps me on track I can't see the harm. (Have visions of Miss Havisham sourronded by dusty volumes of food diaries):D

Sam how the hell can you eat that stuff as a crisp bread, first of all it looks like it was made from left-over Amazon packaging & second, it really does look like it could cause injury to your mouth!!Kudos to you if you can, I'll stick to the cake ;)

Haha, loving the Miss Havisham analogy!

I used to use MFP but like you guys, the calories scared me. I won a 3 month membership to Nutracheck but again, it's calories :sigh:

Notebooks are the way forward and also allows me to feed by stationery/Paperchase addiction!

Exactly I'm a sucker for a fancy notebook. Calories are way too scarey, either I was over-eating them or under eating them, couldn't get a happy medium going.

That's how I have it too, but I only manage 2.5 slices with a lot of goop, like quark or cottage cheese. After switching to Ryvita last week it's been quite hard going back to Scanbran but I need a boost!

Quark and scanbran? Throw celery on there and you have devil food. You're brave!

The funny thing is that I do know many of the people who go to my group and socialise with them at other times :D They are a really nice bunch and we always chat while waiting to be weighed etc but by that time on a Monday (I weigh in at 5.30pm, straight after work) I really just want to get home.

I'm off to Google 'foods rich in Magnesium' ... the period pain thing (and star weeks) are not, thankfully, an issue for me - I had cancer in my mid 30's and had all my inside womanly bits whipped out so I am thoroughly post menopausal and blessedly free from 'all that' (as my Granny would have euphemistically said ;) ) The absolute BEST bit is that because I don't get hormonal surges I also don't get mood swings and cravings in the same way as I used to which I really think is making my SW journey easier :D

Fluid intake warning has been duly noted Sam :) ... I do love my porridge HEb, so I'll probably go with synning a ScanBran a day. The question is - hide it in my porridge or apply Quark mixed with Marmite (YUM!!) and eat with the lunchtime salad (which always includes celery because I love it)? LOL

Using syns on a scanbran.. now that is dedication.

I have it with laughing cow and ham. All 5 of them. And yes it gives me jaw ache but I kind of like that. It discourages further eating. Or talking. Or smiling.
